Xbox Official Xbox thread

Yeah, saw that. Can’t imagine they’d have much success launching at that price.

They have to beat the PS5 in price to have any real shot at staying relevant in the console market.

I'll buy it. Seems pretty good price.

My main problem with Microsoft is the only half decent game I’ve played from them was Gears Tactics.....but it made me want to play the far superior Xcom instead. Apparently Sea of thieves was supposed to be much improved since launch....but even played with friends it was still a meh experience.

Gamepass is awesome though.

The latest leaks look the most realistic I've seen yet:

Seems to cheap .

I just don’t understand why people who don’t like xbox are posted up in here spamming anti xbox memes all day every day.

I came in this thread looking for info about the new xbox and all I see is 2 or 3 weebs spamming “Craig” memes for pages and pages and pages.

Grow tf up and go to the ps5 thread.

Btw another gif from 4daomegalulz, so original.. u really got me again buddy

quit being a cockwomble and ignore them like everyone else.

Xbox Series S specs just leaked — and they're pretty impressive

The Xbox Series S will have a Navi GPU with 20 Compute Units and a 1.550GHz clock speed, The Verge's Tom Warren reports. This is a 61% reducing in CUs and will translate to lower perf targets, aligning with past reports that the Series S is targeting 1440p 60FPS gaming. There's also a 275MHz difference between the Series X (1.825GHz) and Series S (1.550GHz) GPUs.

The news comes in response to our Series X vs Series S table, and up until now, we haven't really had much info on the weaker system's compute unit count. Reports have only mentioned the GPU TFLOP perf target, which is about 4TFLOPs, or 66% weaker than the Xbox Series X's monstrous 12TFLOP of power.
They're not "pretty impressive". They're incredibly impressive.

Same CPU as the XSX. For the GPU, 10GB of GDDR6 VRAM (also used as system RAM), and with the CU count & frequency, the earlier 4.0 TFLOPS looks like it's actually real. Given the architectural improvement we can expect it to outperform the PS4 Pro. Keep in mind the CPU will demolish the PS4 Pro's, and the RAM will also significantly outperform it.

Only two prices have been quoted for the XSS: $199 and more recently the $299 above. At these price points the hardware value is absolutely insane. Comparison of GPUs I constructed before below as a reminder.

Peak Floating Point Performance of Video Card by Console
Red = AMD RDNA 2.0 architecture
Orange = AMD GCN 4.0 architecture
Yellow = AMD GCN 2.0 architecture
Green = NVIDIA Maxwell 2.0 architecture

The reason I've color-coded architecture is because not all FLOPS are equal. Some GPUs in the PC world perform much better than other GPUs with equal FLOPS of a different architecture, an advantage NVIDIA has long held over AMD across contemporary architectures, though this isn't strictly related to hardware, but partly a lack of optimization the consoles don't suffer. Still, know that FLOPS aren't a perfectly linear measurement of a GPU's actual gaming power. RDNA 1.0 made huge leaps for AMD over its GCN predecessors, so for example, the Xbox Series S GPU, if truly 4.0 TFLOPS, might actually outperform the PS4 Pro.

In the games supported row, I notice for the XSX it says it’ll play XSX exclusives but in the Lockhart it just says next gen support.

Does that mean there’s going to be XSX games that won’t be playable on the Lockhart ?

Also, can a 4 tflop device run a game made for a 12 TFLOP device ?

Disclaimer : I barely know what a tflop is or does beyond its description.

Pretty sure PS4 and Xbox One original and S are GCN 2 and PS4 Pro and the X are GCN 4

I'm not sure what the "Next Gen Support" discrepancy is about, but a rumor I saw this past week was that the Xbox Series S is really just the refresh of the Xbox One generation that will only play XSX games through the Microsoft Game Pass service. That seems credible given the remarkably low price. We'll see.

Sure, a 4 TFLOPS device can play games made for a 12 TFLOPS device. That doesn't necessarily come without issues, always, but this is why the original PS4 and XB1 can play the same games as the XBX or PS4 Pro, or more to the point, why they can play games intended for a more powerful PC market, and have been for the past several years.

If I understand it correctly, on second look, that actually takes a lot of shine off it.
So basically it’s a Xbone ++ and to play the new games ppl actually would be excited about (new gen games) , they’d have to pay a monthly charge, pushing up the total cost.

And, you won’t own the games ever and that’s assuming 3rd party studios or games agree to it because the economics for some won’t add up.
Why get listed on GamePass when you can get 60-70$ direct for each game sold ?

Also, a year or so into it, the only games actually made for it, the xbone/ PS4 generation games, might be just small cheap indie games.
Which studio is going to keep making games, AAA at least, to play on the older weaker consoles ?

Anyways, all this is only if the speculations are true.

Fact is, I really wish these 2 companies would sack up and just release all the information about the two consoles.
All this secrecy and misinformation is doing them more harm than good or building good hype. More so with Microsoft and the negativity surrounding their games launch ......or non launch.

I mean it’s nearly September for chrissakes. I wonder how the big box retailers standing up for this. Don’t they have to take in pre orders etc to estimate their buy numbers and budgets ?

I find it a little bit odd that the Series S appears to be weaker than a One X, at least on paper. Makes me wonder if that will stop people that already own a One X from upgrading, on the basis that they’ve already got a console more powerful than the series S which presumably will be able to play games for years to come, so why bother upgrading to even a series X unless a person had to have the most bleeding edge hardware.

Microsoft doesn't care if you upgrade or not, at least for 2 years, because that's the period they said you will be able to play everything with your current system.

That seems like an odd strategy. Where’s the incentive to upgrade then. I have both a base PS4 and a One S. Where’s the incentive for me to upgrade to a Series X as opposed to a PS5 if Microsoft doesn’t care if I upgrade? If anything I’m arguably better off selling my One S and then maybe buying a used One X to hold me over for the next couple of years.

I'm on the same boat, that's confusing.
