Meet the Strawweights: Tecia Torres

By Thomas Gerbasi May 14, 2014

Meet the top eight strawweights that will be competing on season 20 of The Ultimate Fighter...

Tecia-bio-pic.jpg

Tecia Torres doesn’t deal in what ifs. It’s all absolutes for the “Tiny Tornado” from south Florida, so whether she does it intentionally or subconsciously, there are no ifs, ands, or buts about her wearing the UFC strawweight championship belt. She’s going to get it, whether it’s after season 20 of The Ultimate Fighter or further down the line.

I was sick watching the Matt Brown fight and the way Herb Dean allowed him to recover from his liver shot only to come back for the win. If he had given McMann that much time, it could have been a very exciting fight.

Oh right I didn't even think about it until you mentioned it. Yea Herb is letting people get murdered now, definitely at least being very careful about the early stoppage during main event now. There were probably some differences but that stoppage was pretty bs from a few perspective and ppl go like "oh she not defending intelligently" I'm like for how long one second? There needs to be a duration of not defending intelligently or it needs to be a checkmate situation. I would be ok if he stopped it if it was most male fight because most of the time that would be a checkmate situation few recovers from that, but for women it's not like ronda can finish with strikes in that position. Such waste of fight specially given mcmann's age.

All in all herb's recent stoppage decisions is basically him admitting his mistake despite denying it being a mistake on interview.

Send a PM to the site admin and thank them for including the Ignore feature in the forum perhaps?

My own blacklist have nearly 100 morons now, and the discussions I see before me in the Heavies have never been this civilized :D

There is not a single member of this forum on my ignore list. My ignore list is empty.

Understanding the mindset of a troll makes it easy to just ignore them. If I can't help myself, I try to respond as intelligently and logically as I can. Once in a great while, I choose to go to war.

Thirdpress - delivering a pretty dam good video of the Tuf20 cast/hopefuls -- pretty good hopeful list as actually had 8 girls on that side! :) - put some serious time in releasing and putting together that video. Gonna be a real good competitive season forsure

Thanks. I updated my list on fighters not making it into the TUF 20 house as another tryout hopeful has a fight lined up next month. Check it out if you want that information.

Here is a link to the page the list is on, towards the bottom of the page in spoiler tags.

Meet the Strawweights: Felice Herrig
By Thomas Gerbasi May 15, 2014

Meet the top eight strawweights that will be competing on season 20 of The Ultimate Fighter...

Reality television shows are popular mainly because it’s the theater of the unknown. This is doubly true of The Ultimate Fighter, a show in which its competitors don’t just get locked away from the outside world for six weeks, but have to fight each other to advance.

I did a brief check of news on Invicta FC a few moments ago and noticed that there have been a fair number of changes to their website over the past day or two. New fighter bios, etc.. Most of the work was listed as being done yesterday.

Example:

May 14, 2014  Posted by Invicta FC  ATHLETES

Stephanie Eggink – Invicta FC Athlete

signed

Stephanie Eggink Bio

Carrying a championship pedigree with her to Invicta Fighting Championships, Strawweight Stephanie Eggink is ready to add another title to her resume.

With a strong background in boxing, including a stint on the US National Boxing Team, Eggink has worked tirelessly to improve her additional skills in order to become a complete mixed martial artist.

Boasting excellent all around skills, and a dearth of experience in boxing, Eggink will prove a strong test for any of her fellow Invicta FC Strawweight competitors.

I was just checking to see what might be happening with a flyweight bout, Rachael Cummins (2-1-0) US vs. Cynthia Calvillo (0-0-0) US at Fight Club OC in Burkbank, CA., this evening when I noticed a possible fight developing.

It would pit Pearl Gonzalez vs. Rachael Cummins this summer. That could be a decent fight.

I have to disagree, Tobago. A lot of people don't like her for her attention whoring, but she does more promotion than several of the other girls combined. Whether people want to see her win, or watch hoping she loses, she brings attention, which is exactly what this new division needs. I can see her easily winning the end of year social media bonus the UFC hands out.

The best thing for the UFC Strawweight division is for the fighter that can connect best with the audience and/or draw the most interest to win the championship. That is not necessarily always the best fighter in the division, but it can be, like Rousey in her division.

I think the best options for champion to help kickstart the division are Tecia Torres, Joanne Calderwood, or Bec Rawlings.

Some might scoff at Bec being champion, but she has a natural charisma, has an interesting look, and her being from Australian can help make her a big star in her own country as well as the US.

I also see similar charisma in Tecia and Joanne, although Joanne has a quiet almost GSP-like charisma.

For the establishment of the division, my hope is one of those three win TUF 20.

DEEP just posted a pretty interesting video of Jun Ishi (HW fighter)

After watching WMMA Strawweights TUF20/TUF20 TryOuts Challengers Highlight I was thinking some of the 125er that moved down may be a threat to the current favorites and will cause problems for most of the initial 115er. Mostly looking at Daly being bigger and grappler also Nina striking looks dangerous. Awesome video btw.

She has been keeping a very low profile of late, and i'm pretty sure she will be much improved, but for me the Bec Hyatt {she hasnt yet fought as Rawlings}wasnt very likeable to many, very much like Herrig, she had a shitload of fanboys, but more than a few who didnt rate or like her......

i agree,i think a few will come out of left field from the tryouts, wouldnt surprise me,if the semi finals had 2 from the tryouts and 2 from the hand picked 8.

once the straw div strap has been won,i just have a feeling many of the current natural 115 won't get a look in at the strap, could see many more top level 125's coming down, when they have a proper camp.

Way more liked her than the few who didn't. She would move the ratings needle as a champ probably more than all of them except for Torres or Van Zant. But I don't think she will win it.

i don't disagree with your comment at all,way more liked than disliked....i personally thought she was pretty fucking awful as a fighter when she got signed to Invicta, but her personality alone really got her noticed and started a hype train that many where on board, she will no doubt have come on leaps and bounds since then and i think she may surprise some people.

I don't have a problem with the attention whoring, it's countless threads I see of people thinking she's going to win TUF20. Yeah, it's childish of me but it gets on my nerves.

Pretty sure those countless threads are all from one guy and hardly anyone else thinks she has much of a chance.

She is one of the few girls who is used to hopping around gyms, and will have her main training partner there. Some of the girls still train in the same gym they started and live with their moms. It's not crazy to say Felice has a big advantage in that regard. I wouldn't bet on her or anything, but she has tons and tons of experience.

I noticed that ZanZant says she will receive fan mail to sign auto-graphs, pics, etc., on her facebook page. She has the info. there. I could post it but I'd rather just make a link to her page for those interested.

^^^ Good to see Paige getting signed, pretty sure she'll help bring in more viewers
Not only extrememly photogenic but from what I've seen so far, a very tough and deternined young lady to boot.

Really looking forward to the Euro fights this wekend, I still think Alyona might surprise many in her fight with Katja
I'm really looking forward to seeing how Karolina K performs, I've been very impressed by what I've seen of her so far.

Also interested in seeing how Robb and McCarthy go, seems like a while since I last saw either of them in action.

Looking to be a nice amount of action this weekend

Nice

Here's a little something

I know Rachael Cummins is fighting this weekend, it may have already happened but I'm trying to avoid spoilers if that's the case....

and, I remember that she fought Michele Gutierrez late last year, now, at the time, i couldn't find a video of the fight online but did a search again and have now found it , don't think it's already been posted around here, so here it is
