Official Women's Division Discussion #27

Weekend picks

Michelle Waterson vs. Angela Hill - Hill
Andrea Lee vs. Roxanne Modafferi - Lee
Julia Avila vs. Sijara Eubanks - Avila
Sabina Mazo vs. Justine Kish - Mazo

I'm sorry. One is better than nothing, right? This is why I don't make picks, my percentage is about the same, LOL.
In fairness, I was flummoxed at the result of the Lee/Roxy fight. I thought Lee won and it wasn't that close.

It just sunk in for me that Tiburcio is fighting at strawweight tonight. I always thought she was a tiny atomweight, she's going to be badly outsized at straw.

I think if UFC were to add atomweight, either someone dropping down (Danielle Taylor lol), or some unranked Brazilian turns out to be #1.

I really want to see Zapps fight Miyuu Yamamoto now for some reason now.
I really think Carla or Tecia would be the best 105er. Before I saw Tecia finally fight vs someone her own size and the Invicta version of her came back I would have said Carla no doubt. There was a time I thought Tecia would be the future but its looking like her size disadvantage stunted her ability to showcase her striking skills. It sucks that we probably won't get to see Tecia fulfill her potential before she is over the hill. I also think Carla would probably rag doll 105ers if she is doing this well vs people who are usually bigger. Our only hope is that the next TUF will be for 105ers but I've been losing hope.

Viviane Pereira looked quite impressive at 105 against Zappitella (albeit missing weight). I wonder if Invicta will give her a title shot on her return or another fight beforehand.

Update:
I thought Berchel was supposed to fight Pudilová this month; did some research and it turns out she had no idea the fight was booked.

The thing I'm finding strange is when Mackenzie Dern fought under John Crouch at MMA Lab
the scale was her enemy but under Ed Soares at Blackhouse MMA she has weighed in at 115.5
lbs once plus 115 lbs on the dot twice.

Boo:

Stupid virus shenanigans, but maybe full time panda can rage better, or something of that sort.

Good full time panda can use the time to learn some grappling.

Invicta last night wasn't their most exciting card, but that was a good main event smashley looked good for a bit the zap took over with wrestling and got an epic submission.

It was interesting to me when I watched the title fight this morning. I’ve never trained any martial art, so I always feel pleased when I spot something coming before the announcers call it. I was thinking to myself, “Zappitella’s setting up the Von Flue, and Cummings’ arm is trapped, she can’t let go of the guillotine.” Then it actually turned out that way. I gave myself two brownie points for that guess. <Moves>

Yup, once I seen Ashley keep holding that weak choke from the bottom I thought she is giving up the Von Flue on a silver platter. I am no expert but I even I know rule number 1 is to let go of the choke attempt when you in that situation to avoid opening yourself up to the Von Flue choke. Good on Alesha for noticing Ashley's mistake and capitalizing on it right away.

My theory... she has a child now and is taking her job more seriously as a result. Parenthood has that effect on some people
