Selective amnesia is something else. You seem to have forgotten how much trouble those shows had. They messed up their shows so badly at times that Invicta could not make any money since they had to issue refunds due to the continual mess ups for paying customers. Invicta back in the day was more exciting because they had a higher talent level. That is true but lets not forget they had major issues and if it were not for Fight Pass and Shannon's willingness to lose a ton of money every show during a period of time Invicta would have probably folded.

Granted talent levels have declined a little but the Invicta cards pull some of the bigger viewer numbers
on fight pass.

Oh cool. Here's the upcoming card from wiki. Vanessa Porto v Pearl Gonzalez for the flyweight championship and start of a flyweight tournament to determine the next contender.

Dandois fighting today on almost a day’s notice:

She’s fighting Iony Razafiarison, a 125er.
Update: she lost a decision, she made it seem on Instagram like it was questionable.

Livinha Souza got hit too easily, and she didn't react well when she got hit. She also lacks takedown skills when she needs to take the fight to the ground.

I think she could lose to Angela Hill again if there's a rematch. It will be hard for her to reach top of division due to the lack of fundamentals.

The important thing about Souza's fight was that the dernishly overweight abomination lost. :)

It's probably Frota's only chance to sign with UFC, it's not like she has a history of trying to make & missing weight at 115.

The question should be why UFC signs her instead of Virna Jandiroba? UFC is running female divisions to the ground.

Google translate:

Amanda Nunes, at the press conference at UFC Fortaleza, where she participates as a guest, talked about retirement. She said it was a mother's request, and expects it to happen after the probable fight with Holly Holm, but admitted the possibility of making rematch with Cris Cyborg

You're not giving Souza enough credit. Her defense wasn't nearly as bad as you claim and of course she would be affected somewhat by the punches; her opponent was a solid 15+ pounds heavier by fight-time and not exactly "natural" on top of the massive size advantage...in more ways than one.

Souza's wrestling and takedowns actually looked better than I had ever seen them before, too. I think she absolutely beats Hill now; her striking has improved considerably and so has her wrestling.

How many fighters at 115 would be a significant favorite against Souza? Rose, Andrade, Joanna, Suarez...and that's about it?

Ansaroff and Calvillo would be small favorites at best.

Sounds like there's going to be a women's Quintet in April.

These have been the most fun grappling events out there.

Borella v Spencer. By mid-first round I was rooting for Spencer to avoid getting driven into the cage. Alas she must get lighter on the feet - circle & move around. She did better in round 3 when Borella tired but it wasn't enough. Borella walked her down head first into the fence effectively in the first two. More interested in Spencer's future as I like her striking.

Souza v Frota. Grit and activity won Livinha the first 2 & the fight against the seven-pounds overweight Frota. Livinha deserves her next match against someone her size. Monster slug didn't bring out Souza's best but she kept going for submissions (almost had the RNC at the end of round 2) and got the W. Love watching Souza going back to her Invicta days. She'll be more exciting against people who belong in her division.

Anything new in it or is it the same story that pops up during fight week every time she fights? I am all for wanting to get the word out to help people but she seems to only use it to promote her fights. She goes months at a time without a word to advocate against DV then a few days before a fight a few articles pop up. If she actually wants to help with DV that's amazing but it seems to me that she is using it as a way to make money.

Might be the other way around. That the DV stuff is the only thing that will cause anyone to write about her and the fight coming up is the thing that puts her on their radar in the first place. "Oh, some chick bareknuckleboxing, meh... hey domestic violence! I'll ask her about that!" etc. Human interest angle on otherwise 0 value sports piece.

A whole event? Nice. It's tough to figure out exactly what they're doing sometimes, the translation of all those little pictureletters isn't always that great on facebook.

I had figured they were at least doing a womens match or showcase... a whole event would be fucking awesome.

If anyone here hasn't seen in particular QUINTET 2 AND 3, go fucking watch them. If those events don't get you into it..... nothing can.

I remember all the craziness, too. I didn't ask for a refund when the stream crashed. I was perfectly content to consider it a contribution to a struggling organization. Also, I thought it was awful that Knapp nearly put herself into financial ruin to keep Invicta going. It was certainly impressive. I just thought the whole early scene was fun. Definitely wasn't sustainable, though.

I don’t miss Schiavello’s commentating at all. Quite the opposite.

I have no recollection of whether he offered any technical commentary or not. As an American who grew up in the most boring part of the country, I just appreciated his accent and vocabulary. For me, it added to the whole "circus" feel that was early Invicta.
