Official Women's Division Discussion #25

Most satisfying fight - Esparza finding out what real wrestling is and getting beaten to death by Suarez.
Christmas came early for me when that fight announcement was made. What a beautiful mauling that was.

Hmm the TUF winner moves to 135. I thought people said she was 1 of the true 145ers.

I'll be 99% shocked if Macy makes weight she's struggled to hit 146.
 this is bad news though I had hoped tuf 28 would lead to the ufc adding an actual 145 roster not huge but like 20-25 make it respectable.

Also Macy will ragdoll and finish Gina in minutes at catchweigt. Brutal ko or gnp.

This guy just lost a lot of credibility- and a subscriber- today with video about Jon Jones.
If you have outrage based on his opinion that female fighters should be allowed to take steroids, I totally understand. I just wrote a strongly dissenting comment with regard to that in his YouTube comment section.

More of his talk about double standards, and trying to compare Jones’ situation to Brock, and acting as if Brock is getting a pass for something that is totally unrelated, incomparable, and not his fault. Also, while he didn’t say it, I detected the implication of race behind it, as well.

Never even made it far enough to hear what say what you are talking about.

I feel like this has to be incorrect? Macy is gonna die trying to make 135 if this is actually a bantamweight bout.
The size difference between pannie and her was crazy and pannie is a big bantamweight herself.
Katharina Lehner just mentioned on twitter how Macy had a very hard cut to 145. Weird.

Happy Holidays to everyone here! All the drama in MMA these last few years has really put a strain on me being a fan of the sport but this place has always remained mostly drama free and I really appreciate that. I would say 90% to 95% of my posts on MMA happen in this thread and I would not have it any other way.

I know it's a little late (as the former Emperor's birthday was the 23rd, which was a Sunday, moving the holiday to the 24th), but Happy Holidays to all.

So, who we got?
Hamasaki or Asakura? (I predict a torch-passing - Asakura)
Zingano or Anderson? (I think Cat's best days are long gone...but this is an opponent she can still beat)
Cyborg or Nunes? (I think they both go into the middle of cage to "prove something"...and Nunes melts her

And, is Ladd vs. Holm happening? If it is, I think that will be a great fight.

I interpret this post to mean that Andrea Lee liked her training visit to MMA Gold well enough to make a permanent move there. As a fan of both Andrea Lee and Aspen Ladd, I'm excited by the prospect of them raising each other's game by regularly training together.

I'll be honest, I just don't like Carla. Watching her get beaten senseless is always satisfying.
Joanna and Tatiana bless!

Now we get to see just how real this Pearl comeback year is. I consider Porto a good gatekeeper. She seems to always fail when she gets to the big fights but if you beat her I can say you are a good fighter. The only fight I can remember that Porto had recently that was a little suspect is that I believe Milana Dudieva was beating her a good portion of their fight until Porto turned it up and TKO'd her. With that being said, Porto is a good test to see if Pearl really has improved or if it was her level of opponent.

Speaking of Carla, was just watching her fight against Joanna and my high school wrestling coach would cry if we did this.

Note how Carla is putting her outside arm through and gripping in the middle with her inside arm. This means that Joanna can attack the grip with both hands once she finds her balance and gets her arms free, it's an easy 2 on 1 and the grip gets broken and the takedown defended.

Suarez shows the right way to do it. You put the inside arm through and grip with the outside arm, this puts the grip behind the opponent where they can't reach it or to the outside where they can only get at it with one hand. It looks like a minor detail but it makes a huge difference in how secure the grip is and how well you can hold onto someone to complete the takedown. This was one of the things that my high school wrestling coach preached, he was huge on fundamentals and key details like this one.

I remember Cyborg complaining TUF was full of girls that could make 135, but I figured that was omitting Malecki & Chiasson.

While Hayley Turner, Jessamyn Duke, and Peggy Morgan are all similar in height.. Zarah Dos Santos & Alexis Dufrense are probably the only people similar in musculature & height to attempt 135, and as far as I can tell, neither have even made 136.

Have to wonder if the cut drains Chiasson like it did Dufrense.

Porto really is the perfect gatekeeper. She’s a good athlete, very durable, and she has a basic, but very well rounded game. She’s also got some serious mileage on her though, and she’s definitely struggled against people who have more in their toolbox, either technically or physically.

Pearl has shown more depth standing, but she usually isn’t great at stopping takedowns, or avoiding the clinch. I suspect Porto will try to wrestle & wear Gonzalez down, as it’s the path of least resistance for her. If it doesn’t work, I’d give Porto a speed and cardio edge striking, that she could probably use to overcome Pearl.

Hamasaki based on judo / grappling skills & power.
Zingano because she looks back on track with her unanimous decision over Reneau.
Cyborg based on endurance & experience.
Ladd - Holm was announced but Holm's manager said it's not finalized.

I believe Zarah made it once for a title fight. She looked like death and immediately went back up, in her last fight she even missed the featherweight limit.

But I fully expect Macy to miss weight terribly.

Hamasaki UD
Zingano by 2nd round tko/sub (if Holm wrestlefucked Megan, what zingano will do?)

Ladd vs Holm, if materializes, will be a very interrsting bout. I beII believe Holm manages to get a decision.
