Official Women's Division Discussion #25

Wow! That was a straight mauling by Valentina from the opening bell and exactly the kind of statement she needed to make for her flyweight UFC debut. Even if her opponent was tough, but clearly overmatched.

She should definitely get the title shot next.

it was honestly almost disturbing how much of a mauling that was

It was an epic beat down. Very strong statement. I want to see what it buys. 8)

Glad she put it on. Just about everyone was expecting Shevchenko to win and probably do it in dominant fashion but she did more then that. The fight could have been stopped in the first round but Yamasaki let it play out.

I did not mind the fight being allowed to continue.

Shevchenko should have tried the Mallory Martin "you're done, no one can help you" technique, missed opportunity there Val, might have reminded Yamasaki what his job entailed.

Hope they give Cachoeira another more reasonable matchup, I'm guessing Stevenson will be one and done though.

Everyone was calling it a mismatch as soon as the fight was made. Calm down.

Yeah, pretty much. Hopefully the UFC takes care of the new girl. She got thrown into the deep end of the pool with her hands and feet tied.

Evidently Dana agrees:

Nicco is a tough, gutsy fighter but Valentina will probably be all over her as well. I like Nicco's base and relentless style but Valentina should not only be the superior striker in there, she will also control the grappling in my opinion.

I've been looking for one of Kim Bulow's ammy fights from last year and had been looking for the one that was cancelled due to the event being called off at the last moment. So I found a number of them on a friend's facebook. Not the ones I was looking for but that's okay; I will keep trying.

Ammy for the bigger women, between 145 and 155 pounds.

vs. Katie Norris

Here is Katie Norris again in her other ammy fight. (145)

I've been looking for Shogun FC 1 Thornburg vs. Mickhayla (Mickey) Johnson but have been coming up short so far. Here is a different Thornburg fight. So so Ammy. Thornburg is really tall.

Well I mean Shevchenko pretty much has a title shot now. I don't think there is a need to fight anyone else before it. I've said it before, I think the purpose of this fight was to build Shevchenko up and it did just that. Whenever Montano comes back, it's gonna be her vs. Valentina.

Meanwhile, JRC stated she'd be down to fight Alexis Davis so I'm down to see that one. I'd also like: Liz Carmouche vs. Barb Honchak, Katlyn Chookagian vs. Montana de la Rosa and Lauren Murphy vs. Sijara Eubanks (whenever Eubanks is ready to comeback).

As for Viana, fight went the way I expected. I don't see Stevenson getting another fight in the UFC unfortunately, if she does then I'd say Esquibel. I'd like to see Viana take on the winner of Hill vs. Moroz. Maybe we'll get to see more of her striking in a fight like that but I liked what I saw from her. Definitely has the potential, just needs to work on her striking game a bit.

I dunno what they'll do with Cachoeira. She was tough as fuck and that fight went on for far too long. I do hope she either gets another chance or is given the opportunity to go down to Invicta to develop her game a bit before getting called back up.

Nah, Nicco's tough. She'll accept the fight. Not saying she'll win. But she's a lot better than Priscila Cachoeira.

Yep. The quality most overlooked with respect to Nicco is that she is a hell of an athlete. Strong and fast. Sure, she does not have Val's technique, but she does bring something to the table.

I really hope the UFC takes care of Cachoeira. The girls deserves something for what she went through.

She’s thinking she can go to a new division and size bully 100%
In reality she would be better off at 135 with how barren it is currently
I think Ashlee probably fails miserably at making the weight, and such. I don't think she is a huge fan of getting hit, and bad weight cuts can make fighters chinny, I think. It'll surely be interesting.

Mind you, this a woman who used diuretics to make 135 on short notice. If she's really a Flyweight, it should've been easy to hit 135 on short notice.

They should be making Alexis Davis vs Katlyn Chookagian very soon, I think. Make it on the same card as Schevchenko/Montano.. it's a clear cut number 1 contenders fight.

I would go Eubanks/Murphy, as a reserve contender, in addition to Davis/Chookagian. Beyond that, I like Liz Carmouche vs Jessica Clark. Honchak/Maia 2 and Roxanne/Andrea 2 sounds fun to me, but I'd be ok if all 4 latter women were given favorable matchups, there is nothing wrong with building a contender so long as it isn't a total blowout. If they go with that strategy, I'd like to see something like Maia/Dobson, Honchak/Fabian, Roxanne/Kim, and Lee/Porto.

Stevenson needs to go away.

Any update on how Nicco's surgery went? I have seen her doing some training, but not really heard a lot about her foot.

Poly debut was beautiful, seems like Dana White himself was impressed.. and part of the reason we all know ;)

well that went about how I thought it would, surprised at the new more aggressive bullet, she usually takes the first round off.
that Yamasaki just don't give a fuck

Maybe she was picturing Priscila as Mandy lol.
