Multiplat Official Witcher 4 Discussion (2027)

There seems to be a split in the negative reaction of the Witcher4 trailer.

One side is concerned that Ciri is the new witcher.

The second side is concerned as to how she became a 'trials of the grasses' witcher.

And the third side are grifters fanning the flames of the DEI/woke narrative for clicks & followers.

{<diva}

I've seen alot of talk that 'CDPR-uglified Ciri for the DEI/Woke agenda.' And while I have strong fears of a DEI/Woke agenda within CDPR, Ciri's appearance in the trailer isn't evidence of the agenda.

We don't know how many years Witcher4 will take place after Witcher3. If it's 10 years, and the world of the Witcher is quite brutal, its quite obvious that modelesque-beauty would wither away for almost every woman who is not a sorceress.

Sorceresses use magic to improve & preserve their beauty, by the way, which explains that Yennefer is nearly 80 in Witcher3.

But Geralt is actually around 100.
Witcher biology drastically slows the aging process and ensures very long life... for the ones who can survive to enjoy it.

But that also begs the question... when does the trailer take place on the Witcher4 timeline and how long ago did Ciri take the trials of the grasses?

Witcher games aren't bad. They just aged very poorly. Witcher 1 is almost unplayable by today's standards but it was really good for the time. Games in that genre weren't that polished. They were all a little buggy.
Witcher 1 was unplayable by its own days standards. It was dog shit.

Very interesting video citing the books about IF girls/women can become witchers.

Highly recommended.

I actually played Witcher 1 on my first gaming PC way back in 2011... for 15 minutes.

Think that's the main reason why I never bothered to play Witcher 2&3 until 2019, because I figured they were slightly upgraded experiences from the crap the first game was.

Witcher 1 to 3 is without question the most improved trilogy in the history of the industry, and it will never be surpassed.

So apparently they're made Ciri ugly...
...destroyed the lore by making her a witcher....
...it's a DEI/Wokefest that will make Veilguard look like a Trump rally...
...and they're going to kill off Geralt in the first hour.

So without this needing to be said...

...I will definitely will not be buying....

OH FUCK YES. I'M BUYING THIS DAY 1.

Had a weird journey with Gwent. Usually avoid minigames and thought it busywork. 100s of play hours later, at some point I started squaring up and fell in love. Spy and decoy cards were my go-to. Plus Geralt's card at a picogram-pulsating 15 STR. Stoked to hear it's returning.

Triss, page me, baby. You know Yennefer didn't mean anything to me.

That spoiler, whoa whoa whoa!

The lands and people of the Witcher are based on Polish folklore. Imagine if there was a new narrative based on the folklore of Japan, Korea, China, Thailand, and maybe Russian all mixed together.
The Witcher is already based on pan-Slavic mythology including the Russian one, brushed over with later medieval European cultural motifs like knighthood and classic fairy tales.

While somewhat tempting, I personally do not think introducing other mythologies into the game is that good of an idea, it will be very difficult to write properly. Kingdoms of the North are pretty isolated, even Nilfgaard is an alien land to them, and this situation has its own charm.

It would take a lot of explaining how the North made contact with in-game analog of Japan in just 15-20 years after the third game because in the previous books and games there was none mentioned.

And it would be lame if every country had its witchers. As we may see in history, different cultures tend to find different solutions to similar problems. I
would find it a lot cooler if, say, Zerrikania relied on battle mages like Azar Javed from Witcher 1 to solve their monster problems, not the same Temerian witcher but with slightly different equipment. Or maybe something entirely different and not battle-oriented at all, like a Shaman turning the forces of nature against monsters.

Triss for life, Yenna is too much of an insufferable cunt

I'm respectful of your take on this, that it's a bad idea.

So what would make it a good idea?

So every country having their own Witchers is a bad idea... what about regions? In that world it's not just the European region that would have monsters? How would the Asian region deal with monsters?

I'd think It'd be more interesting than just a samurai with magical powers hunting down monsters.

As I remember the furthest regions that Sapkowski at least somewhat described were Ofir and Zerrikania, which would be Middle East and Northern Afrika IRL. Witcher is set in the pre-great geographic discoveries age, they have shitty ships.
First of all we need to have a strong reason why to bring another regions to this universe at all. Do "vikings" from Skellige go and discover America? Do Northern kingdoms get more interaction and trade with Ofir? Do they advance their magic and/or technology and traveling becomes easier? Does Cirilla's elder blood power open stable portals? If we get a good story for the inclusion of the new region in the Witcher universe, it may actually work.

So let's imagine we have such a story, how can I imagine another cultures dealing with monsters?

Russia - I would say it would be between landlords having special trained troops and powerful witches and magi calming or even binding monsters to their will. Also we have bigger percentage of sentient beasts in our mythology compared to the Witcher bestiary so a decent part would be common people making deals, bribing or even befriending creatures like Leshiy. Plus we have a powerful undead sorcerer in our mythology who can very well rival a knyaz and his army with his own.

India, people believe in rebirth and wheel of Sansara (and since it's a magical world it actually happens) so the most enlightened do not fight monsters at all and accept their fate, and simple folk hide, run or use fire, large beasts like bulls, and agricultural tools, like indian peasants repelling tigers.

Japan - I can see the sub-caste of specially trained samurai warriors take the niche of witchers, but for the sake of not copying witchers let them be a privileged caste, with first-born sons of nobility joining their ranks. Still I think it is a rather cheesy option.

From my experience with South-east Asia they would probably worship the monsters and spend a lot of time making offerings instead of trying to get rid of them.

I will admit that W1 is not timeless. I had a lot of fun playing it-- a long time ago. Witcher II was, at least for me, an amazing experience. Hell that whole year was amazing. Dark Souls came out.

I think its only so improved because the first is so horrible, but the jump from 1-2 was tremendous.

Idiots complaining about Ciri being the protagonist clearly didn't finish Witcher 3 and get multiple endings. It's Witcher 4 for a reason as it's continuing the story with familiar characters. CDPR already said Geralt wouldn't be the main character years ago. The internet is a cesspool of shit and everyone whines about everything. All this trailer did was confirm what was cannon as there was so many different endings.

Geralt also looked different in certain cinematic trailers before W3. She'll likely look somewhat different upon release.

I'm more concerned with CDPR releasing a buggy mess when this drops in a few years. If it isn't, that's a huge win, as the story telling is always on point with these guys.

Witcher 1 had tedious and dorky combat - you clicked enemies to death. Otherwise it was a good game.

I'll take the clicky rhythm game combat over whatever the fuck they did in the Witcher 2. I'll die on the hill that it is the most janky unfun combat I've experienced in a game. It's what scared me away from playing Witcher 3 for so long.

The choices and different endings made it so the game didn't rail road you and gave you replay-ability. It wasn't canon to the story nor was it intended as such. It's a game, that is departed from the original source material, how far that goes doesn't make people criticism a cesspool. It's about finding balance, and most entertainment companies don't give a fuck because marks are going to pre-order and spend money on DLC anyways. The whole industry is fucked and the "cesspool" is in the right every damn time even if I disagree with them just on that principle alone.
