Multiplat Official Witcher 4 Discussion (2027)

W1 needs a remake. Except for weird fight mechanics and obviously dated graphics it is a great game.

W1 doesn't just need a remake, it needs a reimagining to make it in the same league as W3.
Don't know how far the W1 remake's development is coming along, but I imagine its developer is sharing info with CDPR to make sure that W1R & W4 are both different but similar in advancement to modern standards.

And once a series like Witcher goes open world it can't go back, even for remakes.

I don't get the hate W2/3 fight mechanics get. I don't think that Souls series fights are that good, tbh, I see why some people love them but for me personally they are very far from gold standard. TES fights are no better than Witcher's either.
W2's difficulty was absurdly high at some points, so many get the fight mechanics confused with the difficulty.

As for W3's fight mechanics, for an open-world Action/Adventure/RPG they're actually quite good. The problem is there isn't enough variation of tactics required to beat them.
Although there's around 100 bosses in the game they're still not quite common though to give the game 'variety.'

And for console players the controller scheme only allowed one sign-magic to be equipped at a time and you had to to to the menu mid-combat to switch them out, and it killed the flow. Most players just equipped, upgraded, and used one sign throughout the entire game.

Thankfully that was fixed with the next-gen upgrade released two years ago.

So, while I disagree the gameplay is 'bad' it most certainly could have been better, and it's the #1 aspect fans are most looking forward to seeing improved for W4.

Is W3 open world, frankly speaking? It's still divided by regions. You can travel among them, but it's not Skyrim where you can run from one side of the map to the opposite one.
W1 is the same minus region switching - they change only when the story progresses. I think it's quite possible to remake so it fits modern expectations.
I did not know about only one sign on quick access in W3 for consoles, I only played it on PC. That was indeed a problem and I see how it made the gameplay look a lot worse.
The variability is greatly increased in DLC's. The frog prince, gravedigger, and of course the high vampire, for instance.

Just because the open world is split between three huge maps doesn't mean it's not open world.

I only played W2 once all the way through, so I imagine W1 is similar to its linearity.

Yup, that's what I was referring to with the bosses.
Only new enemy variety added in either of the expansions were the annoying poisonous plants in Blood&Wine.

Yeah, the original game is linear, but I mean they can re-engineer W1 to be like W3 in that aspect pretty easily.

She is more into girls tho, we may get some lesbomancy
Yeah which is actually cannon to the books. It will be funny if people get made at CD Red for having her bang chicks ad being woke

Yeah, I know. Dunno if she's 100% lesbian since every male interested in her was a giant asshole, but bi at the very least.
As long as the chicks are hot we won't see much complaining, I think.

Had a weird journey with Gwent. Usually avoid minigames and thought it busywork. 100s of play hours later, at some point I started squaring up and fell in love. Spy and decoy cards were my go-to. Plus Geralt's card at a picogram-pulsating 15 STR. Stoked to hear it's returning.

Triss, page me, baby. You know Yennefer didn't mean anything to me.

Of course, the immediate pessimistic reaction is "Why isn't it bigger?"

The maps of Witcher 3 -
*White Orchard
*Kher Moren
*Northern Realms
*Skillege
*Tousant (Blood&Wine)
- combined are fucking huge.

And it's more about what you do on the maps, the density of activity & locations, than the actual size. No one wants a map like a Just Cause game that is practically empty, or the single-player of GTA5.

I'm sure this is going to go over well.

Looks like it might be click bait. If you read the actual quotes he doesn't really say that.

"I mean, I would say the world of The Witcher is a really dark one that's really inspired by, of course, dark fantasy folklore," Weber commented, when asked about the game's portrayal of gender politics and sexism. "But also medieval to early Renaissance history, and that is a world that was tough - tough for many different groups, women among them. As an example, in The Witcher, we also deal a lot with racism when it comes to non-humans, and this is something that we want to keep up with The Witcher 4. I think it's something that has always been really important.

"We make games for adults, and it also means that we tackle some difficult topics," he suggested. "We tackle them in interesting ways. We tackle them without giving easy answers, but often opening difficult questions that players have to answer. And I think some of those questions might be going in this direction as well, because, yeah, Ciri is a woman, and as a witcher in this world, this is an unusual state. So I don't think it's going to be this story everywhere, but since this is a part of this world, and we want to tackle so many of those different themes, it's definitely also going to appear there as well."

She was pretty into Craven in Skellige, though, before he died.

It would be such a gamer thing to get mad over lol

As I recall it they give you dialogue options both ways in that. Either way you choose she likes him for his kindness.

In the books she is definitely hooking up with a chick. I don’t remember her being with any guys but maybe I am forgetting that.

Ah yeah you're right now that I think about it. One option, she said they don't have much time, but she can teach him a few things after kissing him.

As for the books, I'll definitely defer to you, good sir. Never read them, but my girlfriend tells me they're pretty good.
