Official War Room Awards 2017

So a quick little list while I absent myself from this lame Christmas party. Just a few standouts, not a comprehensive list. After all, I appreciate a good mind even if I disagree, and sometimes strongly, with the poser. Such as @Jack V Savage or @Trotsky and @Fawlty Although I agree with him more often than the previous two. Good minds and articulate posters.

@Cubo de Sangre smarter than most give him credit for with my kind of cutting humour. Likes to take a philosophical look at things. Good dude to bounce ideas off of. Appreciates old metal. Could see myself downing many drinks with him while shooting the shit. Can see both sides of an issue.

@dontsnitch My brother from another mother. We consistently see eye to eye even though we have very different backgrounds. Smart, polite, articulate and is charitable in his conversations. Hope to have a beer or two with you bud next time I'm in the GTA. His back and forths with this next guy are always worth reading....

@Kafir-kun Long time debate partner. Our chats about Islam has taught me much. Always calls me out on my bs (and I appreciate it) but does it in a fashion that furthers dialogue instead of ending it. Always worth talking to.

@irish_thug One cool cat. Can't rustle this fella. Doesn't often engage deeply, but brings substance when he chooses to.

@Gutter Chris We're a lot more alike than you realize man. Social liberal and independent thinker. Cool cat.

The above 5 are guys I think I'd keep in my circle in real life. Things they have in common - open minded, willing to agree to disagree, and not toxic personalities.

The following are top notch posters as well.

@TheGreatA Smart and well read. A wide field of knowledge.

@Rod1 Good dude. Also very sharp. I got a laugh when he believed I was actually claiming Mexico "colour appropriated" the red white and green from Hungary's flag.

@snakedafunky A funny German? Nein nein nein.

@Quipling @panamaican @Devout Pessimist @HomerThompson @apileofothers

Gotta cut the verbal diarrhea short. I'm supposed to mingle with lame people.

I used to pay attention to which posts got the most likes. Turns out it's usually one liners with little substance that get the most likes, making it a pretty useless metric. I sometimes wonder if anyone reads multi paragraph in depth posts that actually go into detail.
^^^ tl;dr

@Cubo de Sangre maybe you should use hash tags and make it one word next year. #postoftheyear

Edit: Godamnit @sickc0d3r - I really should read the thread.

Don't really care about the negative categories. I use the ignore function, and the worst posters would either be there or forgotten. The posters I appreciate every year (Team Homer, Fawlty, Pan, kpt, Rup, @Denter, @Quipling, plus some who don't post enough, like @MiniCraque and Octavian) were great this year, too. Tagged the ones who likely wouldn't read this otherwise but didn't bother with Octo, as he rarely comes here. I think I should switch it up, and a few guys I've really appreciated who I haven't mentioned in this category before are @Kafir-kun, Polish, sub_thug, and Trotsky. If I have to pick one, Trotsky. Don't always agree with him, and sometimes disagree majorly, and he can be obnoxious, but he brought it this year, for sure.

Homer defined the media-use category. Should be named after him.

Love the idea of a best thread and quote award, but I don't recall well enough to answer at this time. Might look some up and revisit.

Least biased would be synonymous with best poster, pretty much. "Bothsidesism" is itself a bias. I think being unbiased means following the truth where it leads, which doesn't preclude having opinions about what is best for society or a commitment to the view that the main political factions in a nation are always equal. One guy who I didn't mention in best poster (though he is very good--it wasn't a comprehensive list) who deserves special mention here is Lead.

No idea on best TS. Maybe Nostra? I think he's one of the dimmest posters here and has some major moral issues, but he started some good discussions.

Also a shout-out to a few posters whose disagreement (not *always* civil, intelligent, or honest) I've appreciated reading: waiguoren, Judo, theGreatA, Devout Pessimist, Greoric, Cubo, Hunter, GutterChris, InternetHero, and ehtheist.

These are pretty solid picks.

Poster of the year for me has to be @Fawlty. He's been in the running the last couple years, but really separated himself from the competition this year by consistently handling the alt-right dip-shit squad with humour and eloquence.

Most improved: @Kafir-kun seems to have a little bite to him now. The priority of getting good shots in over being necessarily correct is reminiscent of @Rational Poster's style, but since he seems to willing to learn things and actually become more informed along the way it's all in good fun. @InternetHero's vibe seems to have mellowed out a lot this year too, and @Pupi has made some nice contributions.

Best posters I generally agree with: @panamaican, @kpt018, @Quipling, @ShoelessRye, @nac386

Best right-leaning posters I generally disagree with: @AviatorShades (banned?) and @TheGreatA. I viscerally disagree with almost everything the two of them say, but it takes me some time to figure out why.

Best left-leaning posters I generally disagree with: @ultramanhyata, @luckyshot, k1 or whatever his name is

Worst posters are on ignore for me, so it's hard to even remember who they are.

Best thread starters: @Arkain2K and @JosephDredd

And finally the cream of the crop, my best fellow Canadian posters who I can support through blind nationalism alone @JudoThrowFiasco @dontsnitch @Ayin

Mod bless @Ruprecht, @Lead and @Madmick for keeping the place tolerably sane.

I bet you can't top this one from the Venezuelan socialist dumpster fire:
Hmm
I don't think you're being quite fair to him. While I agree that his post is off the mark, considering the literal socialism which has been afoot, I think I can see why he made the full quote. It's a very complicated topic, and it's understandable imo to try and instinctively resist what can be viewed as reductionary squaking (that others, not you, do in any history thread). Perhaps what he was getting at, or trying to get it, was that it's beyond simplistic to lay all the blame for their problems at the feet of "socialism" considering the litany of struggles they've had through the last several decades. I've read every page of that thread, and many of your top notch threads, and a lot of this kind of thing gets bogged down with weird partisan blame game crap. That's true of discussion around such topics on much of he internet and also irl, in my experience. Socialism is the worst yada yada yada. I can understand somebody less familiar with the material trying to push back against that stuff because it seems instinctively wrong and simplistic as a practice. Not that just "blaming oil" isn't also overly simplistic. After all, corruption, bungling, and terrible policy has screwed many a non-socialist nation as well. Latin America is a horror show of failed states.

Actually, the real reason for that quote is because he didn't actually read the thread. Particularly this post back in the beginning of the discussion.

In my experience in the WR, the vast majority of unfortunate "contributions" to the topic at hand often stemmed from a willfully ignorant poster's inability to read-comprehend the resources already presented right on front of them. This is one of those regularly-occurring instances.

Ehhhh I guess what I was trying to say is don't see it as that egregious. Not an untoppablly bad or unforgivable quote imo. Giving him a little benefit of the doubt and trying to consider what he may have been getting at, it's not a crazy mistake (again, imo). But that's me speaking for him, and I certainly don't remember whatever conversations you guys had following it. And your link takes me to the top of a page.

Not the same league as the guy in my sig that claimed Hitler never gassed anyone ;)

I always want to keep track of quote of the year but fail but the time these arrive everytime. I had some on my other laptop that crashed but they would've been from the first few months.

I need to start paying attention to see how he stands out as a liberal shill. I really don't know what all these people are seeing in his posts. In my mind he's part of a group of posters who I think are funny as fuck and sharp like a razor blade. My left-wing commie marxist feminist bros trying to destroy America. @DickSarp @Limbo Pete @Gandhi @M3t4tr0n @KONG-D'SNT-TAP @AnGrYcRoW @jk7707 @Falsedawn @Quipling @SammyPops @Jopious Extronimous @Rational Poster @Fawlty @Phisher @Overpressure @Overtures @KILL KILL @Trotsky @ultramanhyata @ShoelessRye @luckyshot @Ham Socks @Edison Carasio @zebby23 @kpt018 @Jack V Savage @mr.bigglesworth @JDragon @hillelslovak87 @7437 @PolishHeadlock @FacePunch @computer fogie @HomerThompson @Juventud
@Greoric

And probably a bunch of other great usernames I forgot to include. You guys rock.
Uh, yeah. Those guys, woohoo. ;)

I won't lie, it's disappointing to not get a single mention but it's totally understandable. I don't contribute so voluminously as to bring a lot of attention to myself, I guess.
Anyway, you're a good Joe, and we have a lot of them on here. I'd prefer not to single anyone out, but you and @Fawlty have a way of getting my attention with pretty much every post, so you get my vote for co-posters of the year with too many honourable mentions to list.

I'm not sure if this is a compliment or not so go fuck yourself for tagging me this weekend.
