Official War Room Awards 2017

It's satirical Conspiracy Fiction/Science Fiction. It especially captures the counter-culture, fringe politics and conspiracy mindset of the 60s-70s, which is almost mainstream today (although there was a more "New Age" bent to it back then).
It uses Tomithy Leary's "Reality Tunnels" idea to present a pluralism of "realities" in individual perception, with conspiracy theories obviously being sharply at odds with the "reality tunnel" of the majority.

If you like satirical Scifi and conspiracy theories, I think you'd like it.
This should give you an idea of what it reads like.

Have you read the books I cited (ioawnat and tCoL49)? What did you think, if so? How do they compare to this?

No, I haven't read either of them. I'll have to take a look. Reading the descriptions, the postmodernist take and use of perspective in ioawnat seems like it might be similar. The Illuminatus! Trilogy is very American though, and very satirical, so it it depends heavily on your sense of humour and familiarity with the political cultures and counter-cultures it references (including Discordianism).

Wtf is happening in this thread?

It's tradition for War Room Awards threads to stagger all over the place, although it's also tradition for them to be a lot more toxic than this by now.

I haven't taken it, but a professor of mine teaches a course on the history of conspiracy theory. Turns out there is a whole traceable history, enough to make a reasonably clear path from start to now. I'm waiting for it to be offered again.
Huh.

I'd take that course.

Ioawnat is extremely satirical and funny. TCoL49 is very short, BTW. Somewhat satirical, but also works more seriously. That's interesting, though. I might check it out.

I'll plead guilty to being low energy compared to previous awards threads. Just not feeling venomous. Haven't all year.

Fuck the awards categories. I'm just gonna list people whose posts I most often make a point of reading.

@Bald1
@Greoric
@dontsnitch (although he's been a little MIA)
@Gregolian
@alanb
@Madmick
@Gutter Chris
@RerouteToRemain
@Jack V Savage (at least the first couple in a thread, before his shtick kicks in)
@Curmudgeon (in his case "reading" means "staring")
@Rod1

EDIT: Gotta add @VivaRevolution (in spite of usually providing way more than I wanna read)

Thanks gents! Lots of great posters besides these folks so I apologize for any glaring omissions.

Give me a moment....

Take a look at the Robert Anton Wilson link I posted. If you enjoy that, there's a good chance you'll like The Illuminatus! Trilogy.
I really like the audio book as well. The narrator's voice is a perfect match for the subject matter.

Good list. :D Thanks man.

I'm the same way.. Not good a placing people into categories. The highs and lows even out during the year giving me an impression of who's worth reading. You're on my list, as are the members I've mentioned years past. I'll compile a list later time allowing.

Your sig is still eye cancer @Limbo Pete

I've been busy with real life, but it also seems that this place is a little more toxic these days. Beyond the fact that every single thread, no matter the subject, turns into a left versus right thread, there seems to be an inordinate amount of people that just spew venom. It's like they've watched too much Hitch and they try to emulate him, but without the wit they just end up acting like assholes.

You're one of the best posters here, I underestimated you in the past. Given your propensity for humor in addition to the content you post, you're likely number one on my list this year.

In no particular order, my top 10: @Cubo de Sangre, @IngaVovchanchyn, @Starman, @Bald1, @TheGreatA, @JudoThrowFiasco, @Caveat, @Gandhi, @Bullitt68 (great work in the Peterson thread, really enjoyed your work), @IDL.

@JudoThrowFiasco has my vote for post of the year for his work in thread about Canadian politics. Too lazy too look it up, but he put a lot of work into it and dismantled the TS.

@Kafir-kun has my vote for least partisan, even if we fundamentally disagree on Islam.

@IDL wins gentleman of the forum award.

Shoutout to @pcptornado for his work in the worst poster thread, I don't care if it wasn't in the WR, he put a lot of work into it and it was hilarious.

Shoutout to @Quipling, though I don't often agree, he is intelligent and represents "his side" well.

Edit: forgot @Leagon. I left you hanging in an Islam convo, I was in the middle of writing a long post that I thought would save, but I came back and it was gone. Apologies for that, it's been a busy month, but I enjoy your style.

Thanks man. I've learned to expect my humor to find an audience of one. Me. :D

Please do, it will add to your flavor Mr Savage...
