Shogun Rua car-jacked at gunpoint

"We were in Rio de Janeiro with Demain and we went to dinner with Mauricio at a restaurant," Alonso told PVT. "At the end of the night, he left us at the hotel at Barra da Tijuca and drove back to Niteroi, where he was staying. He was driving a friend’s car at Linha Vermelha and he was forced to stop by another guy with four men armed with rifles.

"They took his clothes, money and his friend’s car. They said ‘I know who you are, you’re a fighter. Don’t try anything.' It was a sad situation."
...
"They took everything, even his shirt," he continued. "He was shoeless and shirtless. Imagine a guy at his size asking for a ride in the middle of the night. Nobody stopped to help him. He had to walk one mile to get to the police station. It was tense, but it’s all good now."

Man I'm really thrilled to have gotten Davis at +odds. I really believe that if Davis comes out like to do his potential he will easily win this fight . He will have the wrestling advantage and he is for bigger and stronger than Brilz is.. This may be a case of the sharps getting an edge on the bookies as they do not know the fighters very well and are instead going off name recognition.

Are you sure Davis has the wrestling edge?

I'm kind of just getting back into MMA after a couple year hiatus (aside from big name fights, but my old laptop played slideshows instead of streams for even those). I don't recall these guys. I just read this:

Brilz won the Nebraska Class A state championship in 1993 wrestling for Omaha Central High School; a school that was ranked the 10th best athletic program in the nation by Sports Illustrated in 2008. Along with his state title, Brilz was an Academic All-American in 1993. At the University of Nebraska-Omaha, Brilz was a three time Academic All-American, a four year letter winner and compiled a 63

1993?

That and how good Kalib Starnes looked in his last fight is why I have two units on him. I also heard a long and detailed interview with Kalib a few weeks ago where they discussed fighting and also life in general and he sounded like a really grounded and self-aware guy.

Yea, I'm gonna hate myself a bit for not going heavier if indeed Ed Herman comes out looking like a guy who only had a two week bi-daily running "camp".

Added another half unit on Starnes and a half on Davis. Will add another half (bringing me to two units total on Starnes if Jardine/Roberts go O 1.5 and Linderman wins.

Goodfella, have you watched video on Davis and researched him?

I seriously get pissed off by just watching Daniel Roberts fight. It's such low level MMA, yet, I'm forcing myself to watch it for whatever reason.

Brock Jardine should just retire. Kid is beyond terrible.

Is there a stream for that card?

I wanna see Herman losing.

Whoever the hell the judge was who gave Jardine two rounds of that fight needs to have their license revoked and there browsing history checked to see how much they wagered on Jardine.

The first two rounds were the easiest 10 to 9 rounds that you could score ever and in the third round you could possibly have given it to Jardine but I wouldn't have as Ninja was losing the striking contest but was never in any imminent danger and he had his back and then the mount for the last one minute and 10 seconds of the bout.

It took no other fighter 2 rounds, they all finished him in one. Haha, that's crazy.

Harris looks really vulnerable when he gets cornered. I was surprised DJ didn't catch him when he had him against the fence with his head down swinging.

Yeah, I too read some interviews with Kalib and he seems like he is grounded.

Davis is a Division I wrestler and much bigger and stronger than Jason is.

But you never know with things like that, for all we know he maybe choose to fight more cautiously because his opponent had nothing to lose, which makes him dangerous.

Its like Daniel Cormier fighting against Dion Staring, Cormier finished in 2 rounds while Dions next 2 fights he lost in the first round to inferior fighters, that dont make much sense right?

I just wonder why he fought against a guy who was 0-11 at the time.

Walt Harris looked very good tonight, like he is becoming a more educated fighter instead of a wild striker going balls to the wall. I think that Harris may have been put you in the UFC too soon and that he should have spent more time on the regional circuit to gain experience. If he continues to progress and fight under control with a game plan like he did tonight, he will definitely be back in the UFC and be a factor in the decision as well .
