Good fights tonight. Plant/Benavidez went about as expected but I thought if it played out in that fashion Plant would get stopped badly.

Anyway, Benavidez did what he needed to do. Hopefully we see him and Canelo have it out. Its a great fight we all want to see. I prefer that to a Bivol matchup tbh. Bivol should stop waiting for Biev to get even older.

I had it close 7-5 Benavidez

good night of fights

Just watched it...

Good fight but how the F is Benavidez a generational talent? Canelo would bury him alive from what i watched.

David landed twice as many punches at a higher % than Canelo vs Plant. David did not looking amazing but neither did Canelo apart from catching Plant and stopping him. David did good work but that clinching spoiled him a lot.

that went about the way most of us expected.

i felt like plant's strategy to tie him up was pretty silly, though. he didn't get hurt much from the distance, it was really in the clinches that he initiated that benavidez landed the chopping shots that actually hurt caleb. in wanting to avoid an inside fight, he basically gave benavidez exactly that.

still, i don't see benavidez beating the likes of morrell, never mind canelo. he's sloppy and defensively irresponsible, but he has a good chin and packs thudding power, so that sees him through. eventually, an athletic power puncher will turn his lights off. will definitely watch, though. i hope he gets his shot now.

Great fight.
Saw this yesterday in an article about David.

David Benavidez's rank among CompuBox Categorical Leaders - 38.4% - total connect pct.- ranks #1, 46.3% power conn. pct. - ranks #3. 26.3% - jab connect pct - ranks #3 25.6 punches landed per round - ranks #4.

And a +16.7 plus/minus rating - ranks #4, 6.8 jabs landed per round - ranks #5, 18.9 power landed per round - ranks #8.

Benavidez has the highest overall landing percentage in boxing, while throwing an average of 66.7 punches a round, while the average punches thrown per round at SMW is 51.6

It should go down as the level of opposition goes up, especially the volume punching as Plant did not let him throw that many combos and top dogs won’t either. That being said he was still pretty accurate yesterday.

And he landed at 38% vs Plant in this fight as well. I think he under performed because of the pressure but he still delivered a strong performance, apart from no stoppage. Plant is definitely tricky and hard to hit and showed more heart than I expected.

David only threw 550 punches this fight which is by far his career low.

its the fight to make, bivol is too slick for either guy and with size advantage on top

Was too tired to emphasize an opinion last night but that fight was miserably annoying when the “clinching” started. I expected the movement and footwork and feints but the repeated holding was lame and let’s be honest killed Plants momentum too. That’s exactly where Benavidez turned it around and just punched his way out. He wasn’t having that spoiler shit and that definitely was a good sign if you’re high on Benavidez because Plant came in to win at all costs and almost got stopped. I like the Canelo/Benavidez matchup a lot now

David was not really a monster tonight but he showed he can fight in a controlled way. Still landed more punches than anyone has vs Plant at high accuracy but he was more restrained than usual which felt a bit weird. Plant is tough. Respect.

These are the types of matchups and fights that make us boxing fans. Gratitude to both these bruhs and glad to see some world level prize fighting last night. Beautiful job and Benny passed the test, can't wait to see where we end up next!

Canelo couldn't finis
Saul destroys Benavidez. That was a good fight though, and glad to see Benavidez remain classy after his win.
Canelo couldn't destroy a 40yr old GGG. Canelo fans live in a fantasy land. I've learned there's the hypothetical Canelo that "destroys" everyone. Then there's the real Canelo that gets schooled by Bivol and goes 12 rounds with a 40yr old fighter he was also supposed to "destroy". There's a reason Canelo is fighting trash can Ryder instead of Benavidez.
