PlayStation Official Returnal Discussion

Congrats!!! :)

Are u planning on platting it? U can also try the tower. That’s fun as well.

We can also run duo teams.
My hands were jittery from the adrenaline. What a rush. Thanks.

Not sure on the Plat. I’ve also not tried out the tower yet. I saw there’s a trophy for weapon proficiency 30 so if I get interested in that, could be fun to run as a duo.

I’m on a science fiction kick ATM thanks to Returnal and want to install Jedi Survivor.

Do yourself a favor and commit; it’s epic. How far did you get or where in general did you leave off?
I made it to the 4th Biome before getting into something else.

I’d really love to revisit this soon. I’m really into Khazan right now and DOOM is looming, so hopefully after that.

Don't think I've ever played a roguelike before but this is badass. It's so addictive. Whether I die or finish a run, I always want to start another one.

Right now I'm grinding biome 2 looking for these stupid ciphers for the platinum but they just won't spawn. Super frustrating but the gameplay is amazing so I can't stop.

One of the things I love is how you can take your time and fully clear one biome before moving on, or make a beeline for the portal and test yourself with low health and a shitty weapon. And the levels are short enough that I can get back to biome 2 in minutes if I die.

Congrats! How did you like the ending?

Liked it. All the game’s interstitial cinematic flashes now make sense. I’d be lying if I said I understood completely but I feel like some big pieces were put together. You mentioned getting a second ending? I think I need revisit my house.

Biome 6 was my favourite underwater level in gaming, thought it was great.

Beat biome 4-6. So aside from the very first death on my first attempt in biome 1 i didn't die at all and managed to run through all 6 biomes with a fresh run.

The game did its best in biome 4 and most of 5 to fuck me over. Every 5-ether malignant chest i tried to open gave me a consumable instead of an artifact. I didn't get a good artifact (repair integrity by 2% per adrenaline level) till late biome 5. I almost died to biome 4 boss (although i would have revived with the astronaut figure). I also completely forgot that biome 4 and 5 you are collecting keys to open the boss room if you haven't beaten it yet. So I lost out on 2 artifacts in biome 4 and 3 in biome 5 compared to my usual runs. Also every time you hit a scene where you pick up a permanent artifact its another potential artifact I didn't get.

Still 700+ hours of experience massively counts in this game apparently. I did farm extra obolites in biome 4 to make up for the getting less artifacts. Entered biome 5 with 1700+ i believe. By the time i reached the final boss i filled up on artifacts. Aside from the rough encounter with biome 4 boss the run throughout the biomes was relatively easy and stress free. Enemies are higher levelled so the perks (especially the tier 1s) were finishing faster. I was actually leaving a fight if the perk finished to get another weapon to level up.

My weapon (hollowseeker) was pretty underpowered against the biome 6 boss. Even though it was level 30 with 4 tier 1 perks it didn't hit very hard (even with the portal beam). I did have near max health, tons of protection, 6 small vials and one repair enhancer so taking damage wasn't that bad but it was a pretty long fight. Beat it with 3 small vials left so it wasn't scary but it wasn't easy either.

All in all it was an extra fun ride! Really enjoyed. Thought it'd die a few times before completing it but when you know the game inside and out it's not that difficult. lol.

Finally found the last cipher and finished all the biome surveys so I decided to try speedrunning straight to the final boss without any upgrades just for fun. Surprisingly managed to beat him while only taking a couple hits. Avoiding the flying squids and malfunction dudes on the way there was harder tbh.

So now it's time for the tower.

DLC done and platinum achieved.

I kept getting destroyed in phase 3 before I could even get to the boss but the rotgland lobber saved the day. One of the only times I've actually used it too but now I see why it's one of the strongest weapons in the game.

Finally broke a million points in the tower tonight and then almost two million. I still find it so hard to not loot everything and just bounce to the next floor to keep the multiplier up.

The top players are pushing a billion points which is completely insane.

Astronauts,

PS5 Pro enhancement patch is now live for higher-resolution immersion, Sony Housemarque reveals.

Game was already gorgeous. Now…

Yeah I just read that. On PC the resolution is great but I get little microstutters whenever I enter new rooms. PS5 has reportedly smoother performance already so this might make it a superior experience.

Wow nice, thanks for sharing. I might have to give this another playthrough

I could never beat the first boss <mma1>

Well now I have zero excuse. I legit can’t wait to jump in.

Little bit off topic but I really hope we get more updates to their other titles soon. A lot of their games don’t have a PS5 version. Would love to see Resogun and Nex Machina get updated. Look out for the date July 19. On that day it will be their 30th anniversary. They even have posted something on X which seems like some kind of teaser for a future updates. I could be totally off here but I do hope they at have something planned.

This was me. I came back after more than a year because the atmosphere is so unique and once it clicks, it’s just an awesome omnidirectional shooter that oozes esoterism and lore.

If any consolation, it’s an open secret the game is beginner-unfriendly. Feels like there are no heals, no room for fun or error in discovery. Got to hoof through that early mud.
