PlayStation Official Returnal Discussion

Ignore the Controlling Weapon Drop suggestion.. Shit don't work. I never did it but heard/read about it and decided to try for shits n giggles. Ran a quick game and it didn't work at all.

You upgraded all the perks?! I am going to say probably not... Did you beat the game yet?

The game's movement and the way the action plays out is what kept me coming back for more. I've only lodged about 700+ hours... lol.
No not the entire game. I'm only in biome 2. I meant all the perks that have become available so far.

Yeah the movement and gunplay is sick. I like the spitmaw shotgun best so far because it suits my run and gun style. Been blasting severeds with it.

You've got a good number of hours in this. Have you done all bosses in one playthrough?

yes. ive killed every boss in a single run. Once you fully level up every perks, doing a run with my tactic makes it pretty easy actually. My run today (first 3 biomes) were easy as hell. I practically cleared biome 1 and only took 1 hit today - haven't played the game in a few months (and I used to play at least 1, 2 runs each week). With a parasite that increased my integrity and collecting all the resins my health was almost doubled. Practically waltzed and beat the 3 biomes easily.

The spitmaw shotgun is awesome if you wanna fight up close and personal. Makes for a hectic but really fun fight. You may encounter more problems in the next biome though. I suggest leveling up another weapon for distance damage. biome 3 spikes up a bit in terms of difficulty. pylon driver, rotgland lobber, or the dreadbound would be my recommendation.

Nice. How long does a full run take?

Haven't beaten him yet but I really like the second boss. Fun fight.

Also never realized you could get so many ether avenging scouts since I've been playing offline so far. They're so slow to find normally but this is like a goldmine.

I just got a parasite that blocks the use of green silphium but heals you when you kill hostiles. I want this every run.

I swear enemies become harder as soon as you get the astronaut figurine just to fuck with you

Sai, with all your experience, have you a say or intuition even on whether spoiled resin is likelier to heal or damage suit integrity?

I’m always tempted to pick these up but never really know if the odds are 50/50 or then leaning one way in my disfavor or favor.

I always risk it unless I'm low health and it seems like three quarters of the time it damages you.

So finally beat Ixion and then immediately died to the puny little enemy guarding the teleporter to biome 3 lol

But we have the grapple hook mfers!!!

That’s what I was afraid of, lol.
You know it seems like the RNG in this game encourages combat and less the freebies, like after fighting minibosses in the bonus rooms you will find enough green items to heal you up. Maybe it's just coincidence but I've been more lucky after surviving tough encounters than with malignant chunks or chests. They more often than not result in malfunctions.

So does biome 3 connect directly to 1 or was that just a new part of the original biome?

One of the newly accessible areas using the grappling hook right after I died and started over was all brown toned with lots of arial traversal. But I hadn't used the portal after Ixion yet so I'm not sure if that new area was biome 3 or if I still have to go back through biome 2 to access the proper teleportal and progress further.

half half.. maybe more damage but i hardly ever use them. I'd rather grab the malignant ones that heal or give you a malfunction. fixing a malfunction is easy. and if you can snag these artifacts:

Integrity Circuit - Gaining/fixing malfunctions increases max integrity
Repair Circuit - Gaining/fixing malfunctions repairs integrity

There are also two other artifacts that do the same but by adding/removing parasites. Not as useful. These two though are top tier IMO. If you see them snag 'em right away. If you get both you are practically hunting for malignant items (all chests, all drops). Get malfunctions, fix them, again and again.

Also great weapon perks to unlock and use are silphium or obolite extractor. Destroy any objects can create either silphium or obolites. It's random but i've had runs where you'll have a bunch of silphium laying around to heal or increase your integrity. Or you're rich in obolites and buy everything.

yes you can go straight to biome 3 from biome 1 if you want to now. you do not have to fight those the biome 1 or 2 bosses anymore if you do not want to. i do strongly suggest leveling up a bit before going to biome 3 though. the gap in strength and difficulty goes up from 2 to 3. but feel free to go direct and check it out for yourself.

One thing this game really needs is the ability to leave map markers like in Elden Ring.

The map is pretty helpful already with different types of items identified but there are only certain things I want to backtrack for and it would be nice to be able to prioritize them. It would help organize the run a little better instead of having to make a second full trip through each biome checking all the leftovers.

Yeah it gets quite annoying.

My tip is to only remember the large silphium locations or healing beds. Sometimes you want a specific parasite after you clear the biome or some condition but that’s rare. The reason I care about the large is you get a full heal obviously and you start increasing your integrity on run backs.

In biome 2 when you enter the large building there is always a large heal on in the cave on the left. I always leave that alone so I don’t waste time looking for one.

Like you suggested, I've started leaving all the silphium and resins until I clear a biome (I'll skip the boss though) and then backtrack to stack them to raise my max integrity.

Now that I'm at 30 ether, I'm also leaving the fallen scout signals and ether laying around until I find a reconstructor so I don't waste them.

There are also certain fabricators I want to use once I have enough obolite.

And then like you said, sometimes there are parasites with certain conditions that you want to meet before you pick it iup.

I almost need to keep notes to remember all this shit.

If I try the tower DLC, will I be importing new enemies and items into the main game?
