No Spoilers Official Red Dead Redemption 2 Discussion

I can't wait to hunt them, I need to hop back on to the story and actually finish it. I just feel more productive in Online.
It's hard devoting time back to single player. That's valuable grind time lol. But it was kinda nice to be able to kick back and relax. I did find myself instinctively fishing for sockeye and steelhead though lol

Just finished the story, I haven't been into a game like that in a long time.
The story and soundtrack was amazing!

Well, I have been playing online since it went live. It was fun for a little while. Now all the griefers who paid for gold bars to get all the best weapons are on there in force. That sure didn’t last long. I also ran into a guy who was apparently invincible as I hit him with the shotgun in the face from about 20 feet. He was not bothered at all and killed me somehow. RIP fun online play.

The most OP gun in online can be bought for cheap by the time you finish the small handful of story missions, there's not a real advantage to buying the others. And a shotgun from mid range aimed high isn't likely to kill, need to be closer to 10 feet and aiming at the body.

If you tried that shot on me when I had Dead Eye activated, I would have been at full health the second I hit a head shot on you in return. Ability cards are a game changer. I've only ran in to one griefer who wasn't a low level punk and had good cards with some skill, not sure why he was griefing.

I just had the best short session. Decided to ride up to Strawberry and ran in to a bear that mauled me after I got bucked off. Found a waterfall and fished for some rainbow trout after jumping down it, saw a hideout of trappers nearby and cleared them out. The leader started shooting at me after I spared him so I killed him, got a treasure map from it. Then I got ambushed by some natives with bows and more trappers on the way to the treasure, so I took them out with my bow. Ran in to a cougar and killed it just in time right as I got to the treasure and ended up getting half a gold bar and $156 from it.

That was a great hour and is exactly why I fucking love this game.

I’m the first to admit I suck at shooting. But a shotgun to the head should do something. And you can get better ammo when you pay, i’m pretty sure. Anyway, that’s not the point. I don’t want to have to deal with motherfuckers whose sole purpose for playing is griefing other players.

It was such that you could let other players pass and just whistle at them, and they would whistle back and you would know neither of you were going to shoot. Now, they just whistle back, wait until your back is turned, and shoot you. I don’t want it to devolve into fucking Call of Duty in free roam. If I wanted to play Call of fucking Duty, I would have bought it.

Jesus. I finished RDR2 single and felt it was just the right length for me.

I’m playing AC Odyssey and it’s terrifyingly big. I mean ridiculous. All of this content.

But repetitive...

I’d rather have a good big steak with bernaise sauce, a nice entree, cleanser and aperitif, some dessert and some great sides, with some red wine over 3 hours than three pounds of meatloaf slobbered with ketchup, a bucket of potato salad and a crate of cola over a day. Some of AC shit is smart and great but as a lawyer I have been taught that - less is more sometimes.

Which is ironic because the word laconic comes from Lakonia aka Sparta.

60 hour single player is the right length of time? Just no.

There were so many things they couldve cut to make the story tighter, the mission structure was appalling in most situations.

You could literally mold each mission to this:
1. Go to point a
2. Get on a horse to point b, exposition on the way. Sometimes short, sometimes long, but be prepared to smash the x button.
3. Shoot teh baddies after performing context sensitive action. Usually using aim assist cause the controls feel like molasses.
4. Ride away after getting annoyed at how obnoxious being told "arthur, get over here" a billion times.

Sometimes a little variation, and I know its a little reductionist but its so noticeable when it isnt fun.

Dudes here are gonna grind 1000s of hours doing shit to get the golden horsey strap in MP and they’re already talking about it.

These repossessions of boats almost always turn into a gigantic scramble of a gunfight. Good googly moogly

The improved ammo you unlock at a higher level doesn't make a meaningful difference, a repeater headshot is killing anyone no matter what level you are. I totally feel you though, griefers are the worst and I just can't fathom what enjoyment they get from it, especially when I'm a menu or something.

Also this is what a shotgun to the face looks like.

Started my 2nd playthrough today. Gonna get some achievements I missed on my first playthrough like gettting camp requests and robbing homesteads.

I think I'm going to restart my story. That way I can see what I missed because of the camp glitch and I'll worry a lot less about the little things and just enjoy the story. All the customization and challenge type stuff I will leave to online, I think I'll stick strictly to the narrative for the story.

Just completed the game. 11/10.

Everything about this game was topnotch. I just say everything because if I had to list everything that blew my mind in this game it'd be too long of a list. I know I complained in the thread about the missions feeling more of a drag than anything, which always brings me to my love/hate relationship with Rockstar games, which is I want so much more to do in the game but in the end I'm glad they made the game they did how they did. Which was basically the chance to not only play through all those epic Western movies you've ever watched, but immerse yourself in it.

The attention to detail in this game was mindblowing. Alot of the hand holding throughout the game really just felt like Rockstar going "Nah you little shit, this is our masteripiece and you're going to sit, soak, bask and revel in all its glory." I tip my hat to them for it, because you can tell they really put their heart and soul into this game.

Even as I type this now there's a heavenly track blaring from the end game credits, and i'm thinking about Arthur, and if he went to heaven and how Sadie, John, Uncle and Charles are doing. Are video games supposed to do this to you?

The game felt over to me after Arthurs death by Micahs hands. I was like wtf I don't want to play anymore. But I really enjoyed the Epilogue though. John was cool too, but just not better than Arthur." I read a lot of people complain that they would rather have continued the game as Sadie rather than John.

the more time you spend with a character, typically the more invested you will be regardless of medium. After I finished RDR2, I started a campaign on RDR1 as Marston. RDR2 makes me far more invested in Marston than RDR1 did. It's a different experience a bit with the knowledge of the prequel and going after Bill and Javier. Far more conflicted, like John feels.

Kill Bill, and I'm thinking of the time he got hair pomade or thanked Arthur for standing up for him, his fear of becoming insane like his father and like Dutch. Prior to RDR2, Bill was just a smug, stupid cowardly shit, a trope.

I've actually never played RDR1, but competing RDR2 made me feel like playing through it just to continue Marstons story. It was really a huge shock to the system to kill off Arthur like that especially since i've been binging the game like some crackhead and really putting hours in the campaign. But R* pulled the whole thing off pretty brilliantly. The whole second act/Epilogue was catharsis from that heavy first act. I ended up liking Johns weird depressive mannerisms contrary to Arthurs very stoic, hard nosed demeanor. It feels like we have a little of both Arthur and Marston in us sometimes. It's a masterful thing to be able to make your viewers relate and become invested in a new main character 2/3rds of a way through a game.

In an age where single player campaigns are overlooked. Rockstar is the beacon of hope.

Man the 2nd half of this game has been absolutely brutal to get through. I am determined to beat it but I have god of war sitting on the shelf taunting me.

WHY CAN'T I VIEW COMPLETED SIDE MISSIONS? WHERE IS IT?

Fuck my RDR life.
