I think it's safe to say that Gamepass, while an interesting idea, and a noble one at that, just isn't and never will be sustainable.
 
PlayStation Plus dropping or at least tapering down PS4 titles from monthly game rewards starting January 2026, reports IGN here. The shift to current-gen has been an overly gradual one...

"As we shift to PS5, PS4 games will no longer be a key benefit and will only be occasionally offered for PlayStation Plus Monthly Games and Game Catalog," Sony said. This won't affect the monthly titles players have already obtained, though Games Catalog titles "will still be available to play until [they] leave the catalog" as part of the monthly refresh.

"We’ll continue to evolve the experience of PlayStation Plus and optimize the benefits you receive, including exclusive discounts, online multiplayer access, online game save storage, and more," Sony added. "As we shift our focus to PS5, we look forward to adding new PS5 titles monthly for you to enjoy."
 
Has this been the longest a previous Gen (PS4) has been supported? The PS5 has been out for just over 4 years. I can't remember the last time a previous gen of consoles received this much support this deep into the new gen.

PS3 still gets periodic software updates (Last one was August last year v4.91) , its mostly security / Blu Ray keys being updated

Not sure if it's the longest but yea it's been pretty long. I expect PS5 to be even longer. As in supported through the whole PS6 gen. I expect consoles to just basically become like PCs now. Upgrade if you want but you will still get the games on your old system. Which is most likely why Sony has switched to focusing on MAUs in their ecosytem instead of just hardware.

I think Sony is still making PS4s on top of that.

Jez Coden from Windows central already said to expect everything. Fable was apparently very very expensive for MS to make so it's pretty much guaranteed. I saw one insider say it wont be day and date because these changes were made to late in development. Which Jez already said that any game that isn't day and date is because the studio wasn't setup for it and didn't have time not because MS doesn't want it on everything.

Shuhei Yoshida told the story of where the name "PlayStation" comes from!

He said Ken Kutaragi came up with the name and its from people calling a computer a "workstation", so Ken Kutaragi came up with the name "PlayStation".

He said the US side of Sony didn't like the name and thought it sounded childish. But that is what they went with.

Pretty much keeping access to your old library will be the only reason. I would just be worried about spending anymore money in the ecosystem at this point. There's rumors they are moving to a PC Hybrid machine but I don't see how they can legally transfer over everyone's licenses in that scenario. Maybe doing some sort of Xbox emulation that allows them to bypass the licensing of what is essentially just a PC. I don't know.

Xbox 360 was their peak …. I still remember buying one from Japan in 2005 because I really wanted one and it was sold out in North America ….

Yep. The 360 got me back into console gaming. I even tried to get a PS3 because to me Sony was always better but man I had nothing to play. I quickly returned it and got a 360 and just had a blast with Gears of War and mass effect. Even got a new HD TV because of it.

Yes it was that good of a console … sadly they fucked up pretty bad by naming the next Xbox, xbox one. Which didn’t make sense then it went downhill
