Also looks like Concord will release at the same kind of price point Helldivers 2 did

Smart. Smart. Smart. I think title consensus is DOA for derivation and blandness but this shows the sweet spot for pricing came through loud and clear.

If there's one thing I've learned it's that the internet is not real life. Terminally online people get angry about things that normies aren't even aware of. If the gameplay is fun it will sell, if not then it won't. Simple as that. The discourse pre-Helldivers 2 was "where is the advertising?" and "This game is going to get crushed by all the competition this month, it's being sent out to die! Delay it!". I'm not saying this will be a success but I wouldn't write it off because some Twitter accounts are upset that it's a hero shooter.

I'll try the open beta and give it a chance if it is really fun. I liked OG Overwatch quite a bit and if it can recapture that maybe I'll preorder

O, I’ll try it out too and make up my mind then but the trailer for me was meh and where my jadedness takes root. Can you actually keep me updated on when that open beta lands?

Concord updates on the PS BLog

Alongside the Standard Edition, we will also have a Digital Deluxe Edition ($59.99 / £49.99 / €59.99 / ¥6,480 MSRP) that includes additional cosmetics to personalize your Freegunner crew and, for those eager to jump in and play, early access to Concord when it launches this August. The Digital Deluxe Edition will grant up to 72 hours of early access before Concord's global launch on August 23. It also includes the Northstar Freegunner's cosmetics pack, which grants you 16 Northstar themed Freegunner outfits; one for each of the 16 playable Freegunners available at launch.

Seeing Vale and the other Freegunners in action in gameplay footage is one thing, but there's no substitute for experiencing the game for yourself. That's why we're hosting a pre-launch beta, simultaneously on PS5 and PC with cross-play support. Those that pre-order will have an opportunity to be among the first to play Concord—and you'll be able to bring your friends.

Pre-ordering any edition of Concord will grant you five codes for our Beta Early Access weekend in July, allowing you to team up with your friends on PS5 and PC and take on rival crews across the galaxy. Stay tuned for more details about the Beta beta in the coming weeks, including the dates of Early Access and Open Beta, and more

Agreed. I saw one video of a guy saying Sony fucked up by not putting it on PS+ like foamstars. When talking about Hell Divers 2.

I like hero shooters so I'm interested in this game and frankly Overwatch 2 just hasn't been as fun as 1. I didn't think the extra tank removal would matter much but the more and more I play the more I feel it. It's made my Rein useless and he was my favorite character to play. I used to hop in and out of Overwatch in between SP games but these days I don't even bother with it anymore. I also don't like that I have to earn my way back into rank mode just because they deleted overwatch 1 and "upgraded" me to 2.

The rumoured new handheld?

I've seen a few things but nothing concrete, if Tom Henderson hasn't said anything then I'd say it isn't a thing for the time being
Right on. I just saw some things floating around twitter yesterday saying it's rumored to be able to access your whole PS4 catalogue while also granting access to some PS5 titles. However, right after I submitted the questions I thought to myself that this rumor has probably been going on for some time lol. More than likely I ran across engagement bait threads.

If one does come out, I hope it's a decent size similar to the Steam Deck. Playing on tiny screens sometimes sucks.

Last couple months or so, but really picked up again a couple of weeks ago, but I am keeping an eye out just in case as I'm intrigued by the idea

@Sycho Sid

To answer your earlier question I forgot to mention there's one more game I'm hoping we get a release date for. It should be at the Devolver Digital Direct later tonight. Been excited for Plucky Squire ever since it was first revealed.

Z, will the beta for Concord be open? I read when preordering as of yesterday one gets 5 codes to give away for the beta – so access is code-only or what? Hook a dawg up if you preorder. *hooowwwlll @Zazen

There’s a guy who just posted a few on concord game on Reddit. That’s the name of the group. It has very few members so chances are you can get one there if you check often enough. Oh shit nevermind lol someone just said they’re all claimed. However still a good idea to visit there every now and then and if I buy it I’ll give you one https://www.reddit.com/r/ConcordGame/s/IVWAZ00xN8

Man, I really don't want to sound like an asshole (but im gonna). If I wanted to watch the indie showcase, I would watch the indie showcase.

I'm not a huge indie guy either. I've really only played like the very best indies. Ori and Hollow knight.

I still like Geoff, I don’t know why people hate on him. I think he’s doing a good thing by bringing back live shows. It’s this or nothing and maybe some people would prefer nothing but most of the time I’ve enjoyed them. This one was particularly weak but at least he did come out and say not to expect big reveals. I think he knew this one wasn’t as good. Oh well we got some release dates and phantom blade zero looks amazing

October is a pretty strong month. Dragon Ball, Sonic, Metaphor, and silent hill 2. I’ve been impressed with the metaphor game so far , it’s going to be a huge game though and I have trouble finishing them so we’ll see.

Only issue I have with Geoff is his weird hero like worship of Kojima and giving him so much time to talk about basically nothing. Thankfully that did not happen this time.
I was not expecting much, but I was hoping for at least one new game to look forward to. But it was just stuff I already knew about, or don't care about.

As weird as this is to say in the PS thread, I hope the MS show is better, because I can play those on PC.

Bud, you’ve played Spain’s Blasphemous though too, right? Worth your time. From aesthetic to metal, guitar-wailing score, game hits so hard.

New interview from Dring with the Godfather himself and known Platinum hunter Mark Cerny. Full read here (long one!) but will excerpt below:

From arcades to architect, the development legend discusses his 42-year career, PS5 surprises and the job of building games consoles.
–––
Cerny is explaining to us that despite his current role as the architect behind PlayStation hardware, what he finds interesting about a game isn't necessarily what it's doing technically, but rather what's new about it. In fact, for all the different roles that Cerny has had in his 42-year games industry career, the one he's never stopped doing is that of 'gamer'.

"I continue to be a massive player," he tells us. "I got into this 40-something years ago because I was an arcade addict.

"Back in the day, I was one of the best players in the country at Defender. That's actually how I got my job at Atari. There was a reporter who was writing a book on arcade games strategies. We're talking about an era so distant that there weren't even games magazines. So if you wanted to learn arcade game strategy, you would go to the supermarket and at the checkout there would be a book that you could buy that would tell you how to play whatever game.

–––
Cerny still does multiple things, but to the current generation of gamers, he's probably best known as the lead architect behind PlayStation 4 and 5.

We're roughly at the mid-way point in the PS5's lifecycle, and so we wanted to ask if there's anything developers have been doing with the hardware that has surprised him.

"I have been very surprised by the degree to which developers are using ray-tracing," he begins. "Putting that in, that was a big decision and actually a rather late one. I thought that this is not going to get much use initially, but if we look at generations, and a generation is seven years or so, software is created for ten years, and so later in the lifecycle we will start seeing people using that technology. But instead we had launch titles that were taking advantage of it. I guess, having worked on games for consoles that were a bit difficult to get into, like the PlayStation 3, I can be a little skittish about very deep technology like that. But in this case, my guess as to how things would go was totally wrong. And I am so happy to have seen the early adoption of the technology.

"The other thing that has been surprising is the push to 60 frames per second. Based on previous console lifecycles, I would have expected there to be a lot more games that are 30 frames per second only, just because the artwork can be so much more detailed if you have longer time to render it. Instead, the almost universal rule this time around has been the games run at 60.

"It's great from a play perspective. Gamers overwhelmingly prefer games that are higher frame rates. I just didn't expect such a departure from previous generations."

I’d wait a bit then to preorder. Nothing’s getting fixed over weekend, I imagine.
