Going to be funny when people say they miss Jim Ryan after they find someone else. This happens every single time. Nobody really cared about Shawn Layden until Jim took over either.

Anyone think it might be Herman Hulst? Not sure he has the credentials but he's recognizable at least.

That's only because Shawn was a more public facing figure but Shawn never had the CEO job, Ryan replaced John Kodera. Shawn was the head of SCEA then 18 Months as WWS chairman above Shu then within a month Shawn left and Shu stepped aside to indies and Herman took over.

I reckon it might be Eric Lempel, current SVP of Marketing, Sales and Business Operations

Oh okay, didn't realize that. Still think there's a possibility people might miss him if the next person is even worse. Like they say, be careful what you wish for.

What is it that you didn't like about Jim?

Jesus Christ, I went too crazy this year. On the bright side I finished all of them but Diablo 4 and Star Wars Jedi. I think if I add them all up it would be around $1,500 to $1,600. I normally buy about 10 games a year but doubled that this year plus PSVR2.

This year alone I bought

Dead Space Remake
Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider
Theartrhythm Final Bar Line
PSVR2 - Tentacular, Horizon, Synapse, Kayak VR, Switchback , Walkabout Golf
Wo Long
Resident Evil 4 Remake
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
We Love Katamari Reroll + Royal Reverie
Diablo 4
Final Fantasy XVI
Armored Core VI
Mortal Kombat 1
Lies of P

Upcoming Games
Spider-Man 2
Lords of the Fallen
Star Ocean Second Story R
Alan Wake II
Sonic Superstars

Respect, brother. Hardcore. Looking forward to your top ten come December in the year’s end thread we’ll make.

Never had a doubt!...
Same. Every game the PS5 shines. Couldn't be happier on the platform and so much is in the oven right now too.

I think Ryan stepping down will also be exciting. I actually didn't realise how split playerbase is over him. Seems some are (very) happy he's leaving and others, sending their best. He stuck by PlayStation when they weren't the market leaders they are now and I've mad respect for that (saw some YT biopic on him a while ago); he was a part of how they got to the top of the mountain. Some highlights from Ryan's tenure:

• Record-breaking revenue ($26.9 billion in FY22)
• New operating income highs ($3.091 billion in FY20)
• Major acquisitions (Bungie, Nixxes)
• 41.7 million PS5 shipments

Fresh blood is a good thing though. It's all about passing on Sony culture and the next guy inheriting those values – because that's what makes Sony a standout and competitors wanting to copy the DualSense tech, PS UI, AAAA games, and more.

This is one of my favorite quotes from Ryan after talking organic Sony acquisitions that make sense and not buying to own:

"I think an ideal acquisition target has to help us deliver on our strategies in a way that we're not capable of doing on our own. And when I look at our portfolio of studios and our publishing capabilities, we need help in the areas in which we're not strong at present...

It's in these spaces, where we don't have expertise and presence, we need to build expertise... So, you can assume that we have an interest in acquiring development knowledge and management expertise there."

September sees launch of Bloodborne Titan Comics series Bleak Dominion.

There are four issues in the story, penned by horror comics writer Cullen Bunn and illustrated by long-time collaborator Piotr Kowalski. Now available at local comic shops and where comics are sold.

The story unfolds in a chalice dungeon as two Hunters seek to find their lost protégé who never surfaced after entering.

Sony titles still inspiring people the world over. PS bless.

Really not surprised by the DF comments. The worst thing for Xbox is that they really do have a powerful system but all their in house studios are hamstrung by the Series S.

I'm almost positive that the reason Starfield is filled with loading screens is because of the Series S. Even DF couldn't explain why the game had so many loading screens in the weirdest places. I don't think they wanted to outright say it but they made it clear that it made no sense.

I also believe that cross-platform developers are not taking full advantage of how the PS5 is built and are not coding to optimize the advantages the system possesses. I feel there is a superior quality whenever I play a first party game (presentation, loading time, quality).

Those loading times are present in the PC versions though. My PC ain't slow by any means but the loading screens I am seeing are disgustingly annoying. That's another thing PS5 games dominate in comparison to XBone games.

Games like Returnal you barely see any loading screens and they are all well hidden behind really short cut scenes. Hell you can cancel these cut scenes to speed it up if you don't want to wait. It's taking advantage of the system with smart mapping design - something that I think is SEVERLY lacking with Starfield.

If you have to load go in a dungeon (or for Starfield a large base/deep cave) then make a narrow starting hallway with minimal assets needed so the loading screen is minimal or seamless. The funny thing is they do it when you enter small little habitats (you have to go into that small pressurize/de-pressurize room). They should have deployed some form loading like that throughout the game. Really puzzled by their developing choices...

The thing is I think MS either forced Bethesda to make it the same on all platforms or the changes are just programmed into the game that way and can't just be adjusted based on what hardware you have. Having all these loading screens to me is a sign of dealing with low memory. Only one thing I can think of that would cause them to program a game for low memory and that's the Series S.

MS is doing all it can to avoid the Series S being seen as a problem but all reports suggest that devs are complaining a lot in the back ground. At a recent game show (I think gamecom) one reporter said almost every was complaining about that system.

Phil did an interview where he tried to outright claim the Series S was not the issue for BG3. He even kind of blamed Larian and said they wont be adjusting their parity clause. The very next day it was adjusted for Larian. I think Larian had enough of MS and the dance they were having to do because of the Series S and said take it or leave it. The game had already blown up and sold way more than they expected. They didn't need Xbox at that point.

Yeah I think the Series S was one of their worst ideas. PS5 was smart design... either with or without disc but the experience is the same so developing for it should be simple.

Sony learned the hard way after trying to be too fancy with PS3. lol

Yea Sony learned a lot from the PS3. I don't know if it was the PS4 or PS5 but I know they even go to developers and ask them what they want to see or should do which is the best idea. The people who are going to be making software for your product should have the biggest input on what to do.

On the other side MS was warned several times that the RAM was to low and they didn't listen.

I just watching DF talk about the new motorsport and it's laughable. Start watching that from 4:00 mins. I don't know what the hell is going on over there at MS but they need to get their shit together. It's a preview build so maybe they'll get it worked out but this isn't something they should be sending to DF for previews.

They did it on both, probably been doing it while we speak for PS6 too

The thing is I only play on average about 7-10 hours a week. Normally I buy less games and try to get 100% of the trophies but this year there's so much I'm interested in that I've just been doing one single playthrough and then moving on to the next. I'm hoping that when there's a drought I can go back and finish up some trophies I have left.
