Multiplat Official Next-gen WITCHER 3 Discussion

Perfomance mode on PS5 runs flawlessly. Game looks beautiful and the new camera adds a lot. Also all the little quality of life changes will make another NG+ playthrough a lot of fun.

That’s disappointing. Without DLSS 2.0 I’m thinking it might be best to play on my PS5 instead.
I messed around with it yesterday, ran like shit. It broke my fall damage mod too, but not the bigger inventory.

Even with RT off it ran poorly. I have a 3080, I find that really bizarre. They're basically using the texture mod I used.

I did a freah install to see if that helped, but I wasnt getting a smooth FR. With RT on it was terrible, regardless of FSR. If you go on tje forums, people with 4090's are having loads of issues too.

i wound up rolling back to an earlier version and reinstalled my mods.

Sounds like console is the way to go.

For now.

Seems like even developers updating their 7 year old games can't make it right for PC, or rather the dozens of variations between processors, graphics cards, and... aug... you get my point why PS5 & Series S/X are far simpler to develop for.

Yup, it was a memorable experience.

And in my third playthrough I discovered all the money you paid to get there was just feet away from you, and all you have to do is walk around something wood, and its all right there.

I've played about 8 hours so far, and here's my thoughts -

*Playing on Performance mode, and it has fulfilled 99/100 of my expectations graphically. The #1 thing I expected for them to fix that they didn't was Geralt's hair clipping through his armor. Its a minor gripe but it sticks out to me like a sore thumb everytime it happens in a conversation cutscene. Perhaps I'll just get Geralt's hair cut repeatedly. I will say they fixed the very distracting chainmail-stretching like it would be cloth-clothing. Its been a crystal-clear 60FPS with no framerate drops, ever.

*The over-the-shoulder God-of-War like camera LOOKS awesome, and of my 8 hours I've used it for the first 6.5 hours until I got to a part that there was five enemies surrounding me and I needed a better way to see all around to avoid hits to the back because I was killed repeatedly in a claustrophobic area of the game. After I changed the camera back to 'standard' I easily cleared that area without barely getting hit. So, that's one way to indirectly increase the difficulty of the game if Death March is too easy for veterans of the game.

The only issue I have on PS5 is that everytime I start the game it acts like I just installed it, all settings are reset and it says "game was just updated". Kind of annoying, but hopefully patched soon.

Couple of gripes for me.

1. The game feels like it’s half RPG half survival. Having to meditate for potions is weird and the fact they fill so slowly sucks. I am playing on the second hardest. I just feel like I never have enough healing items.

2. Save points are absolutely atrocious. I’m starting to get in the habit of saving as much as possible but in the beginning it was rough. I’d die and then transport back to a point I have to pick up all the crap I already had.

Wild to see how deep this RPG system is when comparing it to Cyberpunk.

Have you made Swallow in the Alchemy menu?

'Options'
'Gameplay'
'Autosave Interval'

You can set it to 3, 4, 5, and all the way up to 15 minutes.

Another very big distraction I'm surprised they haven't fixed.

Geralt's hair waves around in some conversation cutscenes like its very windy... even when he's inside.

Edit - Finally got around to finding a barber, now Geralt has a ponytail. Problem solved.

Nice, you just saved me from having to save manually over and over. Ya, I’ve made it. It just takes a while to generate. Currently level 4 atm. I’ve been trying to take out that Werewolf in the lair with his 3 other wolves but I keep dying. The combat is really taking some getting used to.

It’s frustrating when it automatically puts my sword away right when I get into a fight so I’m standing there with my dukes up looking like an asshole.

The first talent you need to get is that one that makes food items healing buff last for 30 minutes. It’s how you get your footing on the hard modes.

Worst combat in an open world I’ve ever
Played …

imagine Geralt the ballerina pressing square and triangle like it’s dancing with stars

Jeeeez I’m playing on death March and Velen is a lot uglier than I remember .
Love owning wraiths with trap magic though

i guess the epic story missions make up for the atrocious combat, I mean even Shadow of Mordor has a Better combat system/feel. Even Assassins creed Valhalla isn’t this bad.

Even Skyrim had way more satisfying melee combat.

I think you might be a little under powered for that fight. It's an early mission that's burned into my brain, because it killed me so much. I always leave that one for when I'm level 8 or so whenever I replay it, because the guy's "regen" is ridiculous, and you're not powerful enough to offset it. All the other early missions are balanced well, and seem appropriate for their level suggestion. That one...not so much.

Also, try to get the power that gives you 20 minute health regen from any piece of food you eat ASAP, if you don't want to be too bothered with chugging health potions all the time. It can make the game a bit too easy, though, as it pretty much eliminates the need to heal during battles.

not sure if this has been mentioned but is it a free upgrade if you own the ps4 version?

If you only own a PS4, there's a few new things added. But no graphical & performance enhancements.

So, best bet is to wait until you have a PS5.

Lol, no joke. The combat is really dated. Geralt is just prancing around doing some sword dances. Some enemies don't even allow you to lock onto them so you're swirling with your sword out in random directions. If it wasn't for the cool stories, I'd probably have dropped it by now. I have a feeling it might get pretty stale which is a bummer.

Thanks for the heads up. I think I get lulled into a false sense of hope as I almost beat him the 4th try and then after the cut scene he killed me. I haven't been able to get back to that part sense so I just bailed. I probably have died there 50 times trying 10 different strategies.

Played a few hours. Not sure I'll do anymore, I've already played through it several times and I dont want to spoil my memories. I think from an all around production value perspective, this is probably the best game I've ever played. The graphics, the music, the voice acting, it's all just phenomenal. I'm not a big story in video games kind of guy but I find the story interesting enough and I think they do a nice job of grafting it in without it feeling like a huge disruption to the game.

But what was always this game's weakpoint, being the gameplay, has not aged well. Combat feels so disconnected and Geralt has no precision or grace in his movement. Despite the fact that he's meant to be this incredible warrior he just spins around like an idiot no matter what button you push. Even just navigating the world feels clumsy, especially when riding Roach who seems to constantly stop or get stuck on shit.

Great game but when I switched back to Elden Ring for a few hours I basically lost any interest in going back to the Witcher 3.
