Question.... If you try and succeed a batsugun, do you still have to demonstrate the nage no kata to get your shodan?

I only had to go through the gokyo and shit + Batsugun for mine.

Over here kata is for 4th dan+ and 'technical' dan grades ie. non competitive. They're apparently bringing kata back in soon though.

Kata is so fucking stupid. Make them demonstrate the throws, not make them remember how many stiff, robotic steps to take, who bow to, et cetera. Nonsense.

I'm game.

If it isn't in tokyo I'll try and get the train to wherever it is for a week or two.

I'll probably be going around June if I had to guess.
 
Heading back to the competitive "kick your ass" club I was a proud member of when I destroyed my ankle (for all you WBs out there: just take the fucking fall and the loss and go back to Judo next week rather than almost 2 years...) after a few months of getting back into it at a new hobbyist club where I babied my ankle and helped a new.

My competition days are done, but the brutal practice and randori is something I am needing very much right now.

My money is on gassing during warm ups. :)

I can't wait for Judo practice. At least I have CSW tomorrow morning, that and maybe somebody will bring a gi to do some Judo....maybe...
 
Hopefully my boy Hector Lombard can pull out the victory tomorrow.
Nothing gets me off like a Judo throw inside the Octagon.

I see much pain and suffering in my future. The hardest part will be slowing down and not pushing too hard since I'm a "noncompetitor" now :)
 
So...my buddy and I wore our wrestling singlets to CSW this morning, ya I know...awesome!

We took the most epic picture doing the 'bas rutten' mid air splits. We're both 225-230 so it's full of win!
