Official Judo Thread VIII

Just used my new weight set for deadlifts squats and bench ... Since I will be sitting out for months due to nose surgery it will be my new friend.

Surely you can still turn up and do uchikomi etc?

Nose will be as fragile as grandma's hip for 2-3 months, can't risk an errant elbow or headbutt.

That sucks.

Well try and keep sane with therabands would be my only advice. Whenever I break my hand I'm back doing seoi nage in a couple of weeks, can't imagine having months off.

For batsugun in Japan do they use ijf rules or can you still touch the legs?

it's just a little man love ya big Vikqueen, don't be scurred you'll just up and catch a case of the gays.

I usually just do no gi in a jock strap with some olive oil on my chest and abs.

You should practice tendoku renshuu. This exercice is "air judo" it's usually a good warm up when it's combined with uchi komi and you'll be safe from contact

Anyone seen that redhead from Ukraine doing internationals? I think she's 17 and on the senior circuit. Would Osoto.

How do you roll NoGi?

Even though I've never done Sambo, I bought some Sambo shorts for no-gi because they fit closer than board shorts but are not as tight as vale tudo shorts. Now they're all I wear. 95% cotton 5% spandex FTW.

Slightly off topic, but what are sambo shoes like? I wanted to get some shoes for uchikomi outside as my running trainers feel really bulky after years of judo without shoes and socks.

They are like socks...in terms of mobility and rigidity.

LOL wrestling singlet...it was awesome, I had to wear a shirt so people would roll with me. It was all fun and games though.

I'll have to look into tighties though, spats even.

Up until 2012 they were leg grabbing. Then Kodokan implemented IJF rules as well... Sad, sad days...

So...my buddy and I wore our wrestling singlets to CSW this morning, ya I know...awesome!

We took the most epic picture doing the 'bas rutten' mid air splits. We're both 225-230 so it's full of win!

If you have a smartphone, you can upload them to imgur, then copy and paste the link here.

For the guys that cross train in BJJ which throws do you usually use?

I have a small in issue in that with me only recently starting at the BJJ gym I don't want to upset them by burying them as they have really hard mats, plus I saw them doing jigari (sp?) rolls and they can't breakfall very well.

I guess I'm just looking for a low impact throw that doesn't make me look like a try hard at the new gym.

To clarify, they don't really start standing but after a round of rolling the guy wanted to do standing with me to begin and I just kind of stood there uncomfortably, defended the shot for a while then pulled guard.

My level of Judo isn't to the point where I can hit a given throw on command, so it's really whatever I can hit at the time. When I do get a throw/trip, I just restrain from putting the uke through the floor.

But you never know man, you might just be the motivation that gym needs to practice Ukemi! lol
