Official Judo Thread VIII

With all my respect to the F13 guys, but I have yet to see any trainer there, who have actually worked with national wrestling/ judo/ sambo teams for their SnC preparation.
The only advice you will get there would be SS, Big 3 and etc.
Nothing bad about the big 3, but taking powerlifting for your judo/ bjj preparation is not the best option.
I would suggest 1 main lift per day, followed by ballistic exercises with DB, KB, BB or wrestling dummy. Do things, that actually translate into your main sport.
And as much as the proper form is important to prevent injuries, ass to the grass squat just doesnt happen in grappling.
Do combination of static and dynamic exercises for the muscle groups you use in grappling.
In judo you will have a lot of upper body twisting, pulling, driving, neck use and the most important for gi sports- grip strength (no, DL grip is not helping, because the barbell doesnt change angle)...

Honestly I already feel pretty strong, and I'm not aiming for champion grappler status. I really just want to put on a bit more upper body muscle and train slightly heavier than usual -- just some additional basic strength. I usually train against smaller guys anyways, so it's not like I need more power to stay in the mix. I just want it because, to quote Selena Gomez, "the heart wants what it wants."

Just don't wake up in some shitty hotel with your liver taken out. But they probably wouldn't take your liver. :icon_chee

Thats more common in China :)
In Japan you wake up on a tuna fishing boat, somewhere around the North Pole...

check meow fellas. it's not a great win since dude was a green belt or something but it's an okay counter.

I'm on my phone, but I'll check it out when I get home.

I looked at the link though... your SD username is your REAL name? That's a noob move, brah.

Precisely!
Those guys dont do SS:

Dan reported me for responding to him by posting gifs of large animals defecating. It was more metaphorical than literal but rules are rules. :icon_chee

Dan the Wolfman? I'm surprised he can even report posts. He's the F12 version of Gil from The Simpsons

Mimicking grappling movements in the weight room is a dumb ass idea honestly. Use the weight room to increase limit strength and related attributes like strength endurance and power, and do your judo stuff on the mat at least until you have a decent strength base.

Does anyone ITT do the uchi mata variant where your sweeping leg comes in diagonally instead of straight in?

You'll have to be more specific. I do a variation that is closer to hane goshi where I'm bringing the leg in diagonally to lift the far leg (I always aim for the far leg if I'm trying a hippy uchi mata), but I also do a variation where I come in at an angle and so the leg is angled relative to my opponent by 180 from my own torso. Which are you curious about?

Be careful, brah.

I don't want to have to throw a #freerj in my sig.

The former, where you diagonally lift the far leg. I just learned it, and I'm not too opposed to using it, surprisingly. Do you feel it always leads to a ken ken situation or have you been able to throw cleanly with it?

This is very true, build strength in those muscular motor patterns needed for your judo style but don

"Oh, this is bad, this is really bad! You work, and you slave, and you steal just enough for a sweet lick of that shiny brass ring... Don't I get a lick? Doesn't Dan the Wolfman get a lick?"

No. No he don't. That's how the story ends.

It's more likely to lead to a clean throw. What usually happens in randori is that you aim for the far leg but you just end up coming up the middle and lifting more with the hip and the leg contact just serves to help rotate uke. If you can make contact with the far leg and get a good lift, both uke's feet are going to be off the ground and he really has no defense. It's the cleanest ippon you can get.

What I want to know is, are there no people his size that he trains with? All his videos are with scared looking guys half his size.

Dan's so easy to troll, not that I try but he takes it that way. All I have to do is post in the same thread as him and he spouts off on the 'teenage black belt' etc.

Half of what he writes is illegible and the other half is on a tangent totally unrelated to the subject + name drops.

I wild guess here- you have absolutely no experience, training with national teams in the following sports: judo, wrestling, sambo. And you have no idea about the specifics in their SnC preparation, am I right?
