Multiplat Official Fallout 76 Discussion

I hope the next Elder Scrolls isn't like this. I never really enjoyed the Fallout games but Elder Scrolls is my favorite game series of all time. I hope they don't fuck it up.

It won't be. This is nothing but an experimental cash grab. They just wanted to get a taste of the multiplayer pie.

For the life of me, I'll never understand why these types of games are popular. I keep hearing all these complaints about the world being lifeless, questing is shit, and all you do is monotonously run around killing mobs and collecting a bunch of garbage, and while I have no reason to doubt those complaints, its hard to take them seriously(especially from mainstream critics), when every other MP RPG is the exact same thing, and they're immensely popular. "Bugs on release! Unacceptable!"...yeah, because no huge MP game ever had bugs and glitches upon release...

I think this is a case of targeting the wrong audience. I don't think many Fallout fans were chomping at the bit for a MP version. I think as time goes by, you'll see that people who love MP games will get into it and it will find a bit of an audience with those folks. The ones who don't like the MP experience(like me) will probably never be able to get into it.

Agreed. I like multiplayer games, but only if I’m playing something like Call of Duty or Counterstrike or Destiny or something like that. Or even some brief coop or pvp in something like Dark Souls. And of course maybe something like Starcraft or Diablo.

But there are certain games that I love but have never said “you know what would enhance this experience? Multiplayer!” and first among those games would be Fallout or Baldurs Gate or something like that. An RPG with a deep narrative and superbly designed world doesn’t need multiplayer.

Yeah, I was mainly talking about the MMORPG formula. They've always felt like glorified chat rooms to me, without any depth to anything you're doing. It's this constant carrot on a stick formula, but without anything within the game to drive you forward. I don't understand where the satisfaction comes from it. It's all so mindless. At least in competitive games, I understand the satisfaction in trying to be the best based on skill. With games like this, you've got the best stuff only because you've spent way more time with it than others. You didn't really accomplish anything.

I think with a different approach, it might not have received such backlash initially. Like if it was a different engine, specifically made for an MP RPG. Kind of like ES Online, where people actually knew what kind of game it was trying to be, and knew what they were getting into. They didn't try to trick anyone into thinking it's exactly like "Skyrim", just with a few tweaks. People knew it was an MMORPG and was gonna play like one. I think when most step into this, they just see a stripped down "Fallout 4". It's everything you loved about "Fallout 4"...except for everything you loved about "Fallout 4".

Watching Todd Howard just blow smoke up peoples' asses, about how this game was just more Fallout, only with a MP element to it(that wasn't "necessary". You SP gamers are gonna love it too! LOL), was just pathetic. Just be honest with people. It's essentially an MMORPG. It's gonna play like one. You single player campaign guys are SOL on this one.

I play both ESO and Fallout 76.
They're completely different formulas.
ESO is like a traditional MMORPG and Fallout 76 has more of like DayZ/Rust.
Fallout 76 servers have a max of 24 players per server.
I can tell most of the negativity is coming from people who haven't actually played the game.
The ones who've actually played and put hours into the game are having a blast like myself.

That seems like a huge stretch. There are no NPCs or factions, right? Would you say its Fallout 4 if the world had no people in it?

If you played a game, there's a reason for no NPCs. Factions will be added later.

I'm pretty sure plenty of people have played it, and hate it. LOL.

But yeah, I wasn't calling Fallout 76 an MMO. Just that it has similar elements. All these squad based MP RPG's have very similar elements. Namely, the bare bones gameplay formula.

At the end of the day, I don't care what genre it is as long as I'm having fun.

Doesn't matter to me if I convince someone or not, just the blind hate the game has been getting is unwarranted.

Of course.

I think some it is unwarranted. I don't think it's blind though. Like I said, it's almost like it's being slammed for being exactly what it set out to be. I think a lot of the hate is coming from people who expected "Fallout 5". Some of that falls on Todd Howard though, who did hype it up in a certain misleading way, that tried to convince fans of the series that it would still be just as deep as a single player Fallout, and could be played as such. I don't have to play the game, to know that that was complete horseshit. Everyone at this point should know exactly what they're getting with a game like this.

I don't get that criticism, as people are more just mad that it's not the game they wanted or expected. In the end, I think it will be fine and find an audience. I don't think it's doomed like so many are predicting. These types of games tend to build a devoted fan base after a while, as long as they're not completely unplayable shit. From what I can tell, there's certainly something to build on here going forward. As long as they continue to fix the technical issues, and dole out new content at a good pace, it should be able to succeed.

That's a fair assessment. I normally don't dive into producer hype as its almost always bullshit. Ever since No Man Sky, I've looked away from company hype.
I can definitely see people expecting a Fallout 5 type of game, but that's why they called it Fallout 76. It's obviously going to be different from the Singleplayer RPG games of the past, so I went into this without any expectation or bias.

Not going to lie though, the pre-order BETA almost had me cancel my pre-order.
Glad I didn't as I've poured over 50 hours into this game since launch.

If you played a game, there's a reason for no NPCs. Factions will be added later.

For Fallout though that's like taking out 60% of the gameplay. I'm not sure how factions would work with no people in the game. Do you mean they are adding player run factions?

This definitely sounds like something to wait and see. Elder Scrolls Online sucked when it came out too. But given time it became one of the better MMOs out there.

You get your quests from holotapes which you find randomly throughout the world.
The factions will be player based, and will function (I'm assuming) similar to how Ultima Online had it. ESO definitely did suck when it came out, but since has turned into the best MMORPG out right now. A good portion of my ESO clan is now on Fallout 76, and we've been having a blast fucking shit up.

I play these games to get lost in them. Oblivion is my favorite because it't the best balance between the complete 'you're on your own' of Morrowind and the hand holding of Skyrim.

My fear is that the next one will be complete autopilot and will have lost the feel of the older ES games.

Morrowind especially had that old school feel like Baulder's Gate where you're learning the whole time and after 10 hours, you start a new character with all the new info you have. And then again and again because you're always learning new stuff.

The new ES will just be more like Skyrim with better graphics and a few tweaks. They won't be going backwards, as far as intuitiveness goes though, if that's what you mean. It will be as accessible as possible.

I was just saying that it's not going to be some MP focused game, like "Fallout 76". It'll be a deep single player experience.

there's NPCs I don't see why ppl keep saying there isn't any. I ran into Grahm and Chally yesterday plus all the robot NPCs throughout the game like the ones at the Army Camp McClintock. If ppl play through the game and aren't too lazy to read shit it explains what happened to the human NPCs and why pretty much every humanoid creature in the game in hostile towards you.

Timestamped. The overall discussion around the game starts prior.

Bought it in the end because a mate wanted a co op game we can play.

It's not as shit as the reviews say but do more enemies spawn?

First hour felt like the map was completely dry of spawns.

They spawn on a timer. Which is annoying because you can think a place is clear only to have a horde of them spawn on top of you.
