Played another 3 hours today. The game is frustrating to say the least. In a good way of course. The incantations + wolves = insanely OP. It seems like there’s a bug there that gives you unlimited mana. Happened to me a few times.

The thing about the incantations and spirit ashes is that even if these are somewhat get out of jail cards, the journey getting there is tough. Will this be Froms “easiest game”, hard to tell. But, even with these added gimmicks, there will be journalists still complaining.

There was an invader camping out in a specific area I ran into numerous times. Too OP for me to take.
Couldnt have said this better myself. Agree with all of this

Was watching HeyZeusHeresToast playing Elden Ring. He's known for speedrunning and no hit running the Soulskiroborne games. He's getting absolutely annihilated by the first boss.

<6>
The first boss is tough lol. I dont blame him

I went into it expecting to fight it like a regular souls boss. Failed miserably. Elden Ring combat is a different game

Well is it meant to winnable first time out or is it meant to be like a classic first boss souls encounter like fighting the asylum demon with a broken hilt or fighting what’s his face at the very start in Demon’s Souls?

its not a first boss you're supposed to lose to like Demons souls and Sekiro, but its not an easy boss. you will die a few times. I guarantee that. Harder than Asylum Demon and Gundyr by far.

But AFAIK maybe that's not the first boss in the final release. Maybe they just placed it there for the beta.

there's also an optional tutorial boss that you're meant to kill in like 2 hits, which becomes a common enemy, but that doesn't count.

Which raises a good point: what if the area you start in for the CNT isn’t even the “beginning” of the game? If it’s truly open world/open field (whatever) then theoretically they could plop us down in any number of different starting locations. Though I highly doubt it.

I'm pretty confident that the place we start at in the CNT is the beginning of the actual game for a few reasons, which I don't want to spoil for anyone

Boss, item, and enemy placement the open world might be a different story

I was hoping my experience with Dark Souls, Sekiro and Bloodborne would carry over but seeing someone who's played the same games and is light years ahead in terms of ability getting ruined for over an hour makes me very nervous.

One thing i've noticed from the gameplay is that stamina management seems more forgiving and blocking appears to nullify more damage. In particular the Margit fight there are enemy combos that you're not quick enough to dodge every strike so perhaps blocking has become essential now and needs to be part of the player's defensive strategy.

Trying hard to contain my excitement but the hype is real. I've never been more pumped for a new game, and like others here I'll probably book some time off work to binge. It's probably for the best that I didn't receive an invite to join the network test because I'd spend way too much time playing to the detriment of family, friends and work lol. I remember putting tens of hours into Nioh's alpha and beta demos and expect the same would've happened here. This will be a long & dark winter waiting for Elden Ring. The first delay was a disappointment but another one would be soul crushing, so hopefully they're on track with the new release date. Miyazaki bless!

Have they said anything about how pvp/invading works?

I really want to play this relaxed without getting ganked.

I would absolutely love it if this is one of those instances where everything is pitch black until you light your torch, and then he's just there.
That actually is the case.

you fight him in a dark room. I couldn't even tell what he fully looked like until that screenshot. and hes very intimidating. Fast moveset and screams like a banshee. creepy

You cant be invaded while playing solo. if you summon 1 phantom, 1 to 2 invaders can come in to attack you. so it will be 2v2
If you summon 2 players then only 1 invader can come in to attack you. There will always be a limit of 4 players total.

There is also opt in 1v1s and 2v2s. This is called competitive multiplayer.

There are about 6-8 items each of them used for a different multiplayer purpose. The only one of those items that is consumable is the item you used to see phantom signs to summon them, everything is a permanent item.

the only people who are at risk of being ganked is an invader. but even then they have an entire world of enemies to help you kill the host (including open world bosses).

Invaders also have a new item, which allows them to teleport to a random location and heal/reasses thhemslevs if they're getting worked

Anyway: Spoilery. but I wanted to post this screenshot to show the insanity of Fromsoftware's enemy design.

This guy was hard btw

Agreed, very difficult and hard to fight in such a small room. Very Dancer of the Boreal Valley esque.

I made it to a ladder in Stormveil on my final play though that was the furthest I could go. Basically it said 'thank you for playing'.
