OH

Estus cancel is in this game LOL. I hope they patch it.

Other cons:
-No solo invasions, but you can opt into 1v1 and 2v2
-Backstabs are nerfed (pro or con depending on your opinion)
-attacks dont drain stamina as much, making it easier to manage (this actually is a pro for me, but I can understand if others think its a con)
-The only step back IMO is PVP., I think they should have kept the original PVP system, but I think this is fine. I enjoyed 3v3s, but opting in for 2v2 is ok
-also common enemies are pretty easy, but there are so many bosses in the game, that you dont really care for them

Estus cancel? What do you mean by that?

So for PvP if you have two allies it exposes you to invasion, but with only one or none there’s no risk of it?

I suck at PvP, and have been rage quitting after getting murked at it since Demons souls on ps3 more than ten years ago, but that sucks that they’ve changed it.

Estus cancel is a glitch in DS3 that cuts the estus drinking animation in half (maybe shorter). so you cant be punished while healing. It is in Elden Ring as well.

so there is an item you use to see summon signs, in previous souls games when you used this item, you were at risk of being invaded. Now, you need to summon at least 1 phantom to be invaded. The expendable item doesnt grow your health bar like it did in previous souls games though.

If you want to do 1v1 PVP, there are red summon signs as well as an item that you start the game out with that allows you to opt into 1v1 PVP or 2v2 PVP.

also when you use your summoning item you can summon 2 phantoms, you dont need an extra item to summon the 2nd.

I hope that makes sense

Ok, so there is 2v2 invasions then, not just 3v3 (distinguishing between involuntary “invasions” and “summoning” opponents)

So is this the entire map? It leads me to believe the whole thing isn't fleshed out. Like parts of it are missing. Could be the map used for a possible sequel with new added areas on the left and right.
No, AFAIK

You gain map fragments throughout the game, which grows your map. That map looks to be unfinished, as in all the fragments havent been found.

but thats the most completed map the public has seen so far.

Map looks complete to me, it’s just oddly shaped because it’s a composite of smaller pieces so there’s the missing chunks of what’s presumably just empty ocean.

Yea, it does look like parts are missing but not that much. And who knows if there's a whole other section on the top or bottom.

Heres a photo I took of the menu

So does the CNT give any insight into the story at all? Not that I want you to give us any spoilers or anything, but I’m curious if out of the gate you have a better understanding of what the Lands Between are supposed to be, or what the Elden Ring actually is, or is this standard Fromsoftware where some old hag’s disembodied voice just going to say “yes, indeed…” next thing you know you’re hollow/ashen/tarnished and you have no idea what’s going on.

I have no idea whats going on tbh. lol. The NPCs explained some stuff but its so esoteric right now, that the player cant understand whats going on.

There was no initial cutscene. Just dropped me right into the game. I imagine that the actual game will have that cutscene explaining the backstory as usual.

The CNT doesnt have much lore or story spoilers

Yes, indeed…

Any sign of covenants?
Havent seen any, although there is still the covenant slot in the HUD, so I think theyre back, not sure though

edit: There are blue invaders, but IDK what they are exactly. Maybe a covenant, or maybe some other form of invader via an item I havent used yet

If anyone has any questions or requests for me to try out when I play for session 2, feel free to ask
Are lunge ATKs, running R1s, and backstep R1s present – and I mean in change-up to respective WPN's standard moveset? These are long-trusted PVP tactics I rely on; sounds like taking other players down could be laborious with 20m invasions if backstab multiplier nerfed and Tears of Denial equivalent present...

yes thats all back. Powerstancing is back too. As well as DS1 poise.

movesets however are not like before where there were essentially different "combos" depending on how you mixed up the r1s and r2s. Now there are less of these. rather than combos you have multiple "skills" that you mix in between your regular attacks.

Some may like this, but others may not. There are still combos, just not as common

Heres a good example of what I mean about L2 (weapon arts) being a more staple aspect of combat, and combos being less

Thanks, Dio. Something interesting with the new swap-in, -out WA system is you really can't know in any predictive play what all to expect based squarely on what someone is wielding. I can't see a named, special make of dagger or UGS anymore and know their game because I've no idea what they've equipped, not unlike prosthetics in a way – unless WAs realise visibly with gems on hilts, coloured blades whatnot, e.g., glimmering-blue hilted gem means water WA something something.

Can anyone comment on magic? It looks like its going to make the game easy based on what I've seen. Autolock and does a ton of damage from far away
