Can anyone comment on magic? It looks like its going to make the game easy based on what I've seen. Autolock and does a ton of damage from far away

I thought the same. Looks like it might be slow though and mana is limited. So might work for some bosses but if a boss is on your ass to much might not work that well.

Thanks, Dio. Something interesting with the new swap-in, -out WA system is you really can't know in any predictive play what all to expect based squarely on what someone is wielding. I can't see a named, special make of dagger or UGS anymore and know their game because I've no idea what they've equipped, not unlike prosthetics in a way – unless WAs realise visibly with gems on hilts, coloured blades whatnot, e.g., glimmering-blue hilted gem means water WA something something.
to be fair, we dont know what spells someone has equipped when we fight them in previous DS games, we just figure it out as we face them. There are tells based on the animation charge time that let us know whats coming.

I've seen several youtubers use magic to down a boss they were struggling with and it looks like they did it with ease. Just concerned they may have made it too easy. I know I should stop being a gatekeeper but I hope there's a challenge for the veterans of the series. If it ends up being like Demon Souls were magic was OP then I'll end up going melee build and ignore it

It is OP and needs a nerf. Not Demon's Souls OP but stronger than DS1 and DS3

Hope they get the ps5 frame rate on performance mode fixed in time for release.
Quality mode could use VRR or maybe even a 40fps mode like Ratchet and clank rift apart.

Interesting to see an unlocked framerate for quality mode. Would have expected to see it locked to 30fps like the majority of quality modes.

Have you seen all the kiddos complaining about the graphics?

I forgot to mention another con; albeit a minor one

two-handing is now activated by clicking triangle and R1 at the same time, rather than holding triangle. This makes you misinput a lot, where you end up doing an R1 attack when youre just trying to two hand your weapon
also you cant drop from a ledge and slam attack an opponent beneath you anymore

@Valhoven

So I spent 3 hours last night playing the Demo as a Champion. I’m not nearly as experienced as many of you who have followed From through the years. My SoulsSekiroBorne only really started 1.5 years ago, so bare with me.

There’s something magical about starting a new From game. The moment you start the adventure for the first time really makes you feel that you’re the one walking through the fog and stepping into the unknown. Here are my takeaways:

  • The first thing that caught me was the sound. It’s brutal, it’s loud and it’s completely unforgiving. I had to turn down my volume a bit. Performing a backstab unleashes a vicious sound of violence. They may have reused the Sekiro sound here, but it gets me every time.
  • As @Diogenes of Sinope said, the game is hard. Sure you have your one hit kills early on, but many enemies require multi-hit kills. Weapon skills and incantations help with groups but their startup times will take some getting used to.
  • With that said above, stealth is an option, but learning how to take on multiple enemies seems like something to focus your skills on. I don’t believe this is the only area in the game with groups of people to fight. I believe From gave you the tools to assist you when dealing with camps. Just my opinion of course.
  • Incantations, also mentioned above, could have long start up frames. I was killed several times trying to learn the distance and timing using Dragons breath. It will take some time getting used to. They seem to stun lock enemies, or mine did, but sometimes they got though, hit me and it canceled. Stun locks could very well happen on enemies weak to that incantation, I don’t know.
  • The Champion: I’m having fun playing him. I picked up the leather shield and have been working on my parry. Light attacks only require a block after which you’re granted a strong heavy blow. Heavier attacks seem to require that you time the block which would then allow you the follow up.
  • Tons of fascinating enemy variety so far and I love Froms creativeness with their design choices.
  • Small dungeons scattered throughout. Will more than likely see these throughout the map.
  • I’ve only beaten 4 bosses I believe which weren’t all the difficult.
  • Sweaty Palms are here. No other developer I know of can make you feel like everything is on the line. For someone who loves horror movies and the overall genre itself, From is S+ tier. These games shake me to my core and I love it.
I made it to a high level boss really early in the game up at the top of Stormveil castle. Ran though with my horse. Would not recommend lol.

As much as I love the Champion, when the game drops, I might move into Bloodwolf. I favor more of a dex build than I do a strength. If the Enchanted Knight would carry a sword I would be all in.

Sorry it’s not the best list, but if you’re a fan of From, I think it’s safe to say that you’re going to be in good hands should you decide to pre-order. My journey continues again at 11am PST. If you have any questions, let me know!

Lol, I died once for this exact reason.

Yeah I played all classes besides champion. So far bloody Wolf is my favorite.

What bosses have you beaten, curious? Feel free to spoiler tag it for the others

Ya, I’m almost sure I’ll go that route. Just hope he gets a bit of magic.

Here are the bosses I’ve beaten so far:

  • BURIAL TREE WATCHDOG
  • BEASTMAN OF FARUM AZULA
  • TREE SENTINEL

For some reason I was thinking the plant thing was a mini-boss but I guess not. Hard to tell. I’ll be on my way towards Stormveil this afternoon. Oh, and I take that back, the third on that list was tough. The first two were gravy.

Makes me wonder if the quality mode could run at 1600-1800p at 60 fps with a dynamic resolution so we could have the best of both worlds.

Thanks. Interesting and well narrated. Calling it the next Cyberpunk is baseless hyperbole, really. Track records between CDPR and From are, dude, lol. No. I have to say I've never heard the term 'pre-chewed' before and I quite like that – but not here. I'm on SD record maybe a year ago saying ER, IMO, would not dethrone Bb so greatest of all-time wasn't really amongst my ER expectations – but soapboxing that this game will be anything less than great is look-at-me-ma swimming against the current, I think, especially at this point pre-launch. I appreciate the narrator's concession that one point to give detractors is that their unhappiness rests upon this being rather a new IP – to say, were this in fact Souls IV, these ER asset and/or animation flips wouldn't be an issue. That's fair, I agree. It's however disingenuous of these same people, IMHO, to put on From a likelihood of corner-cutting when they've always gone all out for their playerbase and appreciated us.

Played another 3 hours today. The game is frustrating to say the least. In a good way of course. The incantations + wolves = insanely OP. It seems like there’s a bug there that gives you unlimited mana. Happened to me a few times.

The thing about the incantations and spirit ashes is that even if these are somewhat get out of jail cards, the journey getting there is tough. Will this be Froms “easiest game”, hard to tell. But, even with these added gimmicks, there will be journalists still complaining.

There was an invader camping out in a specific area I ran into numerous times. Too OP for me to take.

I dont go into From games expecting Bloodborne level. Its their magnum opus for a reason, and I dont think any From fans care about reused animations if the time spent elsewhere is more important. The vocal minority will always make small things seem like the end of the world type issues. CDPR is not on the same level as From, you dont get there by releasing 1 or 2 great games.....From has had the biggest impact on gaming in the last decade.

Lets call those idiots what they are....idiots. They cant tell the difference between animation, graphics, and art direction. From has never had games with the best graphics, they cover their shortcomings with the art direction and the great level design with perfect atmosphere.
