Okay I've taken down the bosses from Ainsel River, Lake of Rot, and I even beat the Fire Giant. I was about to help my witch burn the Erd Tree but went back and got to the Sol Castle. Went to ANOTHER huge tree and another huge city and it was hard as hell.

The thing I noticed is that this tree was dead, or dying. Either way it was not brilliant like the Erd Tree. I summoned a couple peeps to help me progress and we found this door with overgrown roots, but you could kind of see through it and see all the brilliance. We kept maneuvering until we got deeper and deeper...I LOVE this about games like Elden Ring, Dark Souls, Diablo I... the continual move away from safety, into an utterly foreign and dangerous land. When we reached the bottom, I found what was causing the tree to rot. Malenia--- the goddess of rot. Disease has never looked so sexy.
I got her Incantation, Scarlet Flower I think it's called. But it takes up three slots and I dunno. Seems a little unwieldy.

So now my thinking is, I want to activate her great rune, and continue moving on with the huge Crater in the Giant's area. I'm sure I'm missing stuff but from my perception that's all there is left. I haven't seen a trace of Ranni since I left for the forbidden land.

You can get those things really early. I was trying to farm Kaiden armour and kept getting dismounters instead.

Dual wielding uchi's was a blast so I was thinking of doing dismounter and bloudhound fang too. Let me know how it plays if you try them.
That's what I'm using. Kaiden armor set and right now a +5 Bloodhound Fang. My hero looks like a Viking or Barbarian. The Kaiden armor set is my favorite I've seen so far.

I go for looks because I heard even when your HP is maxed with HP boosting talismans and the sturdiest heavy armors, the end game bosses can still 1 hit kill you. I figured, I'd focus more on damage.

I have the Dismounter and I put the blood affinity on it but it's only +3 so far and it's not bleeding enemies like I hoped. Not yet anyway. I think I have to increase my arcane stat. I tested the Dismounter after I set it up as best as I could. I found some high HP giants and I wacked them over and over and the bleed isn't working.

The Bloodhound Fang is a beast of a sword. It's got ninja moves, does big damage, and the bleeding damage. I've been 2 handing the sword. Once you start 2 handling weapons and get good at it, it's hard to go back to shields and blocking.

Fashion Souls is always the correct souls and as a bonus it has high poise for its weight. My guy was Haaken the mad Norseman.

Yeah I used the bloodhound fang with my first character and it's definitely one of the best weapons in the game. Bleed, staggers enemies easily and has a badass weapon art.

Managed to get her to second phase. She's actually a cool fight that feels spoiled by that one ridiculous attack.

Had more success after stripping my armour down and benefiting from the light roll which keeps you out of range of pretty much all of her regular combos and follow ups.

That second phase is pretty rough. She has some new attacks and the scarlet rot buildup can be an issue.

Second phase for me has been the same story as the first. I can avoid pretty much everything only to then get diced by Waterfowl Dance.

Been watching how LetMeSoloHer fights Malenia and he dodges it flawlessly at both close and long range. I can dodge it at long range no problem. Just need to practice and improve my timing when it comes to close range.

Hopefully get the W by the end of the week.

I don't understand how the black knife assassin could kill the original Elden God. What was his name Godfrey?

You'd think if he was Elden God, there'd be no way the black knife assassin could kill him. He would be max level with all the best legendary gear, magic spells, everything maxed. Some dude snuck up on him and stabbed him to death?

And if that's how it went, how come the black knife assassin didn't become Elden God?

Unless I'm missing something, it doesn't add up. It doesn't seem possible for an assassin to sneak attack an Elden God and kill him so easily.

It would be like one of Thanos's sergeants sneaking up on him Infinity Gauntlet and all, and just stabbing him in the back and actually killing him.

It just doesn't seem right

The Black Knife assassins killed Godwyn, Godfrey's son. They used a fragment of the blade of destined death that kills the soul but not the body.

Did you fight Mohg? Also have you finished Ranni's quest all the way?

They didn’t. They killed Godwyn, he’s one of Godfrey and Merika’s children, a demigod like his brothers Morgott and Mogh.

Don't know who Mohg is, but I can't find Ranni. I thought something might happen after Malenia, because there was a tree that looked like her. But I can't find anything.

Did you go across the lake of rot to the temple? There is another boss after that.
