People complaining about story in DOOM?

I think I'm towards the end and man, this one fight kicked my ass. Spoilers tags if you haven't beaten it yet. Also, thoughts on one scene that I have mixed feelings on.

After getting back your crucible and climbing up the Titan, for whatever reason, I died probably 10 times on that fight. I can't stand fighting that demon where you have to fight them at mid-range. It's so cheap. I eventually cheesed it by going into a corner and he didn't move. That was the first time I really got mad playing the game.

As for the story part, what did you guys think about going from Doomguy to Doom Slayer? I loved seeing the first person view with the gloves on from the first game but I honestly hated hearing Doomguy talk. It wasn't bad or anything but I always viewed him as a silent protagonist and hearing him talk kinda ruined that vibe. After thinking about it, I realized that you really don't hear him grunt or do anything in this game. I think they should have added some classic DOOM grunts when you get damaged, jump, etc.

I'll probably finish it up tonight or tomorrow and then see about tackling the optional encounters and Slayer gates.

I finished it, and it was a pretty great experience. I think 2016's story was better as a result of being sparing more than anything else.

I wonder what they're going to do next. I'm not sure there's much to be done with this particular formula in the near term.

Just beat it. Awesome experience overall. I'm going big and saying 9/10.

I really like how certain enemies seemed so impossible at the beginning and then by the end, you are so good that you are taking 2 or 3 of them out with ease. I still hate that bastard that
you have to counter attack
but I eventually found a way to cheese them.

I'm not the type to go back and play a game on a harder difficulty so I'll probably look up to see if the Slayer gate reward is worth doing. If not, I think I'll be moving on to DOOM 64.

Beat it on Ultra Violence, been playing a little multi. Won every match so far as the Slayer (because people I'm fighting don't know the demons well, same as me), got hosed as the demons. Demons have a high learning curve comparatively

The memes this game is producing, hahaha

Anyone wishing to see this game played on Ultra-Nightmare at peak performance, check this out!

Hard link

He finished level six, saved and called it a night

Just beat level 6 on Ultra Violence, the gameplay has really started clicking for me now. I was kinda struggling the first 3 levels but it's like poetry in motion now.

Btw Plasma Rifle + Heat Blast

It seems like the more I play this game, the more I fall in love with it. It may be one of the best shooters I've ever played, second only to the classic DOOM games. I do wish the levels were a bit less linear though, and that there were more Foundry-esque levels where you can hit several objectives in any order and get lost exploring. Still, the combat is just so incredible it almost singlehandedly help makes up for that.

Loving it. One thing that stands out to me a lot that didn't in 2016 (That doesn't stand out to me in most games tbh) is the music. Definitely a soundtrack I'll get my hands on. This game is pure badassery on every level

Gets better with time for sure, as the movements become more second nature and easier to chain it adds a whole new element of fun even while getting destroyed.

Finally got to play for a bit. I honestly think I enjoyed the first two levels more than anything in Doom 2016. And I liked that game! I hope it maintains this kind of quality. In two levels, I feel like I have seen more variety in the environments than the entirety of the last game, and that was one of the big things I wanted.
I hadn't seen anyone mention that you can choose which order to unlock runes, which is a HUGE improvement. Especially since that was seen as giving the player the ability to choose their own play style, it made no sense to have them unlocked in a set order, with many being unlocked rather late in the game.
The way the story seems to be handled is really strange, though. I thought that the way they handled it in 2016 was universally praised, so why did they feel the need to switch to a more traditional style? Third person cutscenes?
And
the Doom Slayer bowing to a king? What?? Who thought this was a good idea? Of all the characters to portray as obedient, I would have never expected this. Maybe they were just trying to betray expectations, but I am not really liking the bit of story I have seen so far.
I actually really liked the story in 2016 and how it was delivered. It's strange that it doesn't really feel like a follow up at all.

The Doom 2016 soundtrack didn't stand out to you?

Just finished my first UV play through. 10/10

I couldn’t believe how much fun I was actually having at times. Never felt cheap. Gunplay was fucking perfect.

Instant classic for me.

I don't remember anything from it bro. I'll prob replay 2016 after this and maybe it'll stand out more
Yeah, I'd suggest replaying it. That soundtrack was legit. They re-used some tracks in the new one because they were so good.

Yeah that was pretty badass tbh. Don't know how I wasn't picking up on stuff like that
