Multiplat Official DOOM ETERNAL Discussion

Yeah takes a little bit to get used to the controls. I still keep Y/Triangle to swap weapons or thinking I need to reload.
I cant stop hitting L2 like I'm aiming in call of duty and use my secondary. I also keep trying to melee which seems to be pretty useless in this game.

I tried battle mode online. It’s not fair how it’s 2 demons vs the slayer. Wish it was just like 2 vs 2, 3vs 3 , 6 vs 6. Also the rewards for ranking up are pretty weak not many incentives to play online from what I see yet. Battle mode is semi fun though with potential .
From what I've heard, once you get good (gitgud! lol) with the slayer it balances out but I haven't tried it yet so I dunno. I watched Hugo Martin narrating matches between people and some event and some of the slayers were kicking ass. I hope it's balanced.

I'd like more people as well, and more modes. I'm looking forward to invasion when that comes, I thought it'd be a day one thing

Is monster infighting no longer a thing? On the first level I’ve seen imps and zombie men fighting, but it looks scripted, and they don’t seem to do any damage to each other. I watched a couple go toe to toe with punches for like 45 seconds on the first level and nothing was happening so I just went up and shot both of them.

That’s pretty disappointing if they’ve removed that mechanic as it’s long been a staple of the franchise. Some levels of OG Doom and Doom II revolve around that mechanic, like E2M9 (cacos vs barons) and level 20 of Doom II (Cyberdemon vs spider mastermind)

They don't seem to do any damage to each other unfortunately. I'm hoping it's changed in a patch

Only on level 3 and it's hard as nails, died at a certain encounter about 20 times , I forget sometimes that you literally can't stop moving haha.

I've learned that the hard way myself, I'll get cornered like I owe the mob money and they found me so they gotta kick my ass in the corner lol.

Ok, i got 1 great thing to say about Eternal and 1 shit thing to say about Eternal.

1. This game is absolutely beautiful.

2. FUCK JUMPING PUZZLES. Honestly, does anyone thing these things are fun? "oh theyre a challenge." Fuck that, just give me more demons.

I got the last sentinel battery that I need to unlock a suit point that I don't need when I get back to the fortress. I think I'll reward myself by playing the last level without bothering with any of the challenges.

Also, having both the Crucible and the Khan Unmakyr is definitely overkill.

I've got the combat down pretty well. There's no way the new system limits your options, it expands them, especially as you progress. Combat is much more dynamic and fun than 2016.

I'm to Phobos and I've only missed a couple secrets so far. I try to get the challenges but I don't worry about them as much. I dig the story and the lore, I've read all the codex's so far. Nothing that deep but it's a fun edition. The game is extremely self aware which makes it good.

There's the occasional thing here and there that I think needs to be tighter but I'm amazed how much fun it is, especially meow that I'm beefed up and used to keeping track of 37,000 things at once. Incredibly engaging and the breaks between combat are nice. I haven't enjoyed a game this much in a long time, the difficulty for me is nigh the perfect balance of challenging without being frustrating.

I love them haha. They're really easy for me though because I've played tons of platformers. The only time platforming and jumping puzzles aren't fun to me is if the controls aren't tight. I'm very biased because FPS & platforming for me is cookies & cream.

First impressions:

The game is hard. Its like it picks up at the difficulty of the end of Doom (2016) and just keeps going, but takes all your weapons away. I like the way the chainsaw works better. It takes gettin used to but the way how you combine with your upgraded melee attacks to rape the "fodder enemies" of their loot and stay alive against the big boys givin chase,is hi octane high stakes battle of the highest order.

I kind of dont like the flamethrower (Keep in mind it probably will get better as i upgrade it,but right now its weak). The platforming is fun and thrillng, but the enemies knocking you into the lava etc,is a huge pain in the ass sometimes,or whatever, just having to worry about then when fighting is sometimes too much,as the game is already intense as it is. The prior game didnt really mess with you like this,so again, its more of the fuckin world against you than ever before.

Fuckin Arachnotrons are always a huge pain in the fuckin ass. It felt like a boss fight whenever they show up in the first stage (which is often)

Anyway im near the end of Mission 2: Exultia. Despite the coronavirus bullshit, ive found myself too busy to play as much as I want to,but ive enjoyed the game immensely. The absolute madmen. They fuckin delivered.

p.s. I really hate those fuckin tentacle things in the slime.

It does have a more cartoonish feel to it. The characters all feel smaller too. Seems they wanted more small and quick enemies. Still early on in it, but that’s the feeling.
I did notice too that the characters are smaller and leaner looking. Esp the Hell Knights and the imps. The both seem harder to hit now, because of that and the speed.

The thing about the way it plays, which some are complaining about,is that it really requires you to constantly think while under alot of stress from the enemies, and this is actually very fun, thrilling and satisfying. Its like the ultimate pressure gaming experience. Like when your playin Tetris, and the screen is almost filled up,and you gotta go above and beyond to survive, ahahah

PS i also noticed so many people were taken for surprise about how hard the game is in the beggining.

"I know i dont suck THIS bad at doom..."

The ability to recover from a KO blow and the game slows down...HOLY shit those moments are awesome, esp when you glory kill the guy that put you down. Its SO satisfying in slo mo

DOOM 2016, while insanely good in its own right, is also just plain shallow--and easy--in comparison. You can cheese the same 2 or 3 weapons through virtually every encounter and very rarely use any equipment and still, more often than not, get by just fine.
I wont call the game shallow, but yes,I could destroy that whole game with the plasma cannon. Actually,I did, lol.

The way Doom Eternal makes you have to constantly think about what your doing, switching, stocking, leaping away, its what makes life worth living and is the stuff dreams are made of.

While it's true that you occasionally need to use specific abilities, this game gives you more freedom in between those moments than any other shooter that I've played.

You can zip around like a bee, but you can also lock down an area. This game gives you so many ways to approach each enemy/group of enemies. At this stage I'm only targeting weakpoints to complete challenges and weapon upgrades.

I haven't bothered knocking off the back turrets of those spider demons for like the last 3 or 4 levels. There's no need when I can just blow through them with multiple weapons. Every gun can feel super powerful in multiple scenarios.
Agreed. If you are clever, you can take out some arachnotrons before they can get even get near you, before you enter the "danger zone"
Doom 2016 seldom ever let you take a shot at any "heavy" demons from a safe point.

I also enjoy learning all the weapons and their upgrades instead of just sticking to the ones i happen to like. The comfort level is less, and thats what this game is about. RIP AND TEAR UNTIL IT IS DONE and TRY TO SURVIVE

Had to bring it down to hurt me plenty... freaking pained me, but, shit is tough as hell for me. Hopefully just need a bit more time with it.

took a few levels, but really getting into it now. Story is terrible though imho

From what ive seen the story is OK but it doesnt really hold up to the action, and it doesnt really "stick" when you are playing a game as intense as this. Kinda just forget about whats going on.
Doesnt really matter. It just goes to show how awesome the action is.

This game is exhilarating, such a good feeling when you beat an encounter that's took about 30 attempts.

Just beat level 3. There is a secret encounter that is fucking brutal, a tiny room with a Mancubus and 2 of those snake things and a few soldiers, I was going off my nut I couldn't move.

its just so damn corny, and it’s a top 5 franchise for me, so it makes me a bit sad. Doesn’t have a evil feel now. Though the action does make up for it.

put it back on ultra-violence too. Guess I didn’t pick good runes at the start, because once I chose the one that slows down time in mid-air, I started murdering fools on hurt me plenty. NOW, it feels really damn good to rip and tear. Still hard as balls, just I feel like I can actually succeed after a few tries now.
