Multiplat Official DOOM ETERNAL Discussion

This franchise is stylish as hell, no pun intended.

Can't really get onboard with the broadening of the mythology though, especially if they try to turn it into some complicated Diablo-style angel vs demon saga. Doom should be about the folly of man in the pursuit of technology and power, plus a space marine giving demons their comeuppance using heavy duty weaponry. Period.

I’m inclined to agree with you. Just give me more demons. If this turns into yet another video game with a story about nephilim or whatever the fuck like Diablo 3 or Darksiders 2 I’ll be pretty disappointed.

Director, Hugo Martin, just said the story's still optional. You can skip through everything, if you don't feel like it.

But if you're speaking as someone who's interested in the story, just doesn't want it go a specific direction - I think that they're more focused on just fun action. A lot of things point to this becoming Space Marine vs Angles and Demons. He'll take on everybody.

I don't have any issue with the story developing if that means new areas, enemies, power ups, etc which why it appears they're doing this. If you guys want the game tor remain exactly the same we still have the classics.

Are people under some impression that this game will be story driven? Lol

Who remembers this though. Love this type of stuff in games.

I wanna kill everything in the most gruesome way possible, don't care much for cutscenes or lore.

The story won't get in the way of the gameplay, this team is very specific about keep the game high octane. I like the direction with the story, with Doomguy being an unstoppable, supernatural, force that demons fear and I like the direction they're going with the lore. More interesting than just a space marine fights demons.

This is the shittiest quake ever. Once they started doing the stupid ass strogg story line and left the love crafty Slipgate storyline quake started to suck
in short, nobody cares about the strogg

Quake 4 was a bit meh, but Quake II was awesome, so I disagree that all the Strogg stuff sucks. Also, Quake 4 wasn’t even developed by id, which is probably a bit reason why it’s kind of meh in comparison.

The setting of Quake 1 was pretty cool as far as atmosphere, sound, “music” and architecture are concerned, but I wouldn’t call it a good “storyline”. Most id games don’t have much in the way of story or any kind of narrative in the first place, but without a doubt Quake 1 has the weakest “story” out of all of them. I mean it barely has a story whatsoever. You have to go through slipgates to stop an enemy code named “Quake” and then you finish the game by telefragging this:

Oof, nostalgia. I remember seeing this, Wolfenstein and the Quake games when my friends' oldest brother got them. We were both raised christian as hell, and this demonic type of stuff was what little me needed. This and ghost recon/r6.

TBF, Quake 1 was meant for multiplayer first. I never did the single player mode until years later. 16 player DM, CTF and the mods were insane at the time. I loved this game. Still have the disc.

I mostly missed out on the Quake 1 multiplayer scene, largely because we didn’t have the internet at home until December 1998. But when we did get it I played the shit out of Quake 2 online. To this day I’ve never had so many mods on any game as I did for Quake 2, all sorts of different multiplayer modes: lithium death match, three wave ctf, jail break, weapons factory, etc.

Giant Bomb did a rough overview of the game mechanics with no spoilers:

this looks... interesting. some better (strategy), some worse (mario). i wish they'd get rid of the flashing blue/orange monsters and glory kill bullshit, though. i guess there's zero chance of that.

This is going to be the first time I buy a PC game at launch. Should I get it on Steam?
