I think it's a little early to count out Diablo's end game as a failure. Sure, it may not be up to par at launch, but it's a live service and new seasons should bring fixes and more content. I just reached Maps in POE and there's a whole other skill tree. Mix that in with the regular skill tree, ascendency skill trees and now the Crucible skill trees and you've got hours and hours of content. This took POE years to build up to so I have no doubt that Diablo won't do the same.

Now, do I like POE's mechanics and skill tree system? Personally, I find it incredibly overbearing. Not only are they forcing you to become a crafting wizard but it's pretty hard to play on console when you don't have the player built crafting websites on hand to help you build out. It's honestly a very daunting game to get into. However, I had a fun time playing it tbh. I just don't know how much more time I want to dedicate to theorycrafting. I'm not 100% sure I want Diablo to go that route. I would like some complexity sure, but I don't want to map my entire playing existence around spending 50hrs in the lab vs 10hrs actually playing.

The fans are just going to repeat that the end game is coming from the live service content.

poe's f2p. poe didn't cost $60 up front or whatever.

and ffs, no one needs to craft in poe. i'm sure you can EASILY clear shit with the items you pick up or randomly throw alchs (or whatever silly orbs exist now) at.

these claims have existed forever, and yet, every league i could play with an absurdly cheap build and walk through everything... and then there's ssf. gamers need to get the fuck over themselves and realize they don't need 1337 gg gear to play a crappy game.

Yes, it's $60 and looks $60 and plays like $60 when compared to POEs f2p. It's not even close in that regard. The campaign alone will probably be worth $60, imo. I spent hours on the beta and didn't even finish the whole thing.

Sure, I cleared the game. I crafted a few things but not many. Mainly adding on elemental offenses / defenses when needed. But I still died more than I would have liked. And when I went into my first maps I got absolutely nuked. To say you don't need to craft to get to higher level maps is a little much. The complexity of the systems involved made it not only confusing but also a time sink watching videos and reading forums. I don't mind doing that but POE requires a ton of research for all of the mechanics involved. And that wasn't done on launch or in a year.

I saw a lot of comments complaining about the Paragon board. POEs multiple skill trees would be a massive turnoff at launch for new players looking to get into ARPGs. It's something that could be brought on board later as gamers learn the mechanics.

I say give it a year and see how it goes. That'll be 4 seasons of added content.

wat. you shouldn't have been dying, like at all. and you absolutely do not need to craft anything to get to and clear high level maps. come on, man.

in v0.9-1.0? yeah, maybe. since the megafuckloads of power creep every 3 months for however many years? lolz, no.

Personally I would have respected them more if they went entirely free to play. Instead they are charging full price and implementing every typical free to play monetization system. I'll keep track of it but no way am I giving that much to blizzard based on their previous games. The fact they haven't shown any decent end game doesn't surprise me. It really just feels like Diablo 3.5. I said the beta was fun but I also said that about the Diablo 3 beta.

Bro, it was my first time playing the game the whole way through. I’m sure with consecutive playthroughs I could possibly do a no death run, but that would take quite a bit to learn. That’s like saying “Dude, you can’t get to Diamond in street fighter? It’s just punch and kick buttons.” There’s a fuck ton of stuff that is only learned through repetition.

That’s fair. I don’t mind the $60 launch if it helps sustain a development team for the game. Cosmetics will hopefully help them continue. Like you, I had a good enough time but I’m ok with paying for the base game.

you just claimed you need to craft to do high level maps and then you say the above. pick one. either you know what you're talking about and crafting is necessary or you aren't familiar with the game and have little to no idea what's necessary.

Why would any developers show you end game stuff before the game is released? It is for the gamer to play and discover. Why ruin the surprise? What exactly are you hoping?

You said I shouldn’t be dying, I told you it was my first time playing. That’s all it was.

My understanding from over 40hrs or so is that you can buy gear or farm for it. If you don’t have the necessary modifiers, which happens quite often as they’re randomized, you craft new ones to round out your build.

Can you get lucky and obtain a build that has 75% resistances on high level gear? Sure, anything is possible, but you’re better off adding in the things you need on the armor you have rather than waiting for new ones that will appear. And even if they did, the modifiers would be different on that gear as well.

End game is very important to the players. Not showing it would be dumb. It's clear they didn't have more to show.

They needed something like maps.

Ok. Can you show one pre-release game trailer that showed end game? I don't believe I've EVER seen a game trailer that showed end game but I could be wrong on this point...

we're not even on the same planet, with what crafitng gear means. anyone can slap an affix on an item from the bench and that's about as simple/self-explanatory as it gets. crafting items means something else, entirely, in poe.

regardless, you shouldn't need to even use the bench, anyway. but yeah, it can help fill gaps. and you should have way more than 75 ele res...

poe showed TONS of endgame in the promos before the official release. and not just maps, pvp (cutthroat), races...

but not in their crappy official 1.0 trailer that (iirc) was weird and zoomed in all goofy and stupid. but poe also had a few leagues/racing seasons/etc before the official release, so endgame was already known.

that said, since blizz seems to be doing the same thing with beta play... maybe it's relevant

Hmm I'm not someone who knows every single game in the genre. This is just my opinion specifically for D4.

Definitely not disputing that. I think I’ve mentioned in this thread how steep the learning curve is within the game. I know crafting goes to a much deeper level and from what I’ve read and the discords I’m in people recommend getting bases and craft with essence and harvest for higher level maps.

So what exactly are you looking for in end game? From what I saw it sounded fun. The PVP looks great and I'm glad it actually has a purpose this time around instead of just thrown in for nothing. I haven't really played a Diablo game since 2 though and that had horrible end game.

That's what I was really getting at. What more are you looking for?. They showed you all the playable characters, the beginning of the game, how it plays, how you level up, some of the moves, you got to fights a boss or two, find decent gear, general feel of the open world, PVP is back.

You want to see all the end game gear in action? Some top end builds? Final bosses fights? What part of the end game exactly are you looking for?

What does "They needed something like maps" mean???
