PlayStation Official Death Stranding 2 Discussion

I didn't even know you could do that. I avoided combat like the plague in the first game. I've only had one encounter so far but I did notice it was much easier to take guys out.
I remember the combat in the first wasn’t great. It’s kind of like metal gear combat. It got a bit sloppy and messy for me because I didn’t understand the exact mechanic. I just shot them one by one. I couldn’t run and take out a camp.

What the actual fuck was that pizza atami bit all about.

Yea in this one I like it better because it's just so easy. I literally just roll into a camp and start killing everyone without any issue. I almost never like my game combat to be easy but in this game it's better to have it that way.

Is the gameplay much better? I played the first one but it wasn't a fun grind for me. I played it offline and gave up towards the ending. I didn't quite drop it but I just stopped and couldn't return back to it. I think I tried to do all the side delivery missions and got burnt out doing it. I spent most of my time maintaining the roads that I built and raiding random camps.

Did the storyline get better?

The game is better in every single way you can think of. If you enjoyed the first game enough to get near the ending you'll enjoy this one even more. Everything is easier to do and feels more rewarding to do those things at the same time.

I could barely understand the story in the first one honestly. Like I understood the major plot points\twist but it was hard to follow beyond that. This one is much easier to follow, the characters are just better and more interesting. If it wasn't for E33 this would be my GOTY. I liked DS1 but it wasn't GOTY material to me it was just a good game. This is an amazing game and makes the first game feel like a beta test.

Thanks for the review. I will buy this game on Friday.

That’s a good point about the combat, the addition of stealth killing BT’s with the boomerang makes navigating them actually fun.

Six fun stats one month post-launch: (1 of 2)

So is playing the first one a must? I can't be bothered tbh but I wanna play this second one.

Edit: I will watch this video than play the sequel

I'm about 45h in now on the first one (close to end) and I have to say, the story + cinematics are spellbinding. Really, really good. The creativity is off the charts.

If you have media that shows every cinematic in addition to the non-cinematic chapters (that I think are important) about Clifford (I think 4, 7, and maybe 10 or 11), then you familiarise yourself with the lingo + abbreviations of the universe, you'll be OK.

The game is a storyteller's showcase where introductions to chars you know come in an unorthodox order; it makes you want to keep playing because you're continuously wondering a number of things.

The coolest thing about DS1 for me has been how blatant the care is – this deep care for the story, for the chars...I would call it a very high-quality experience.

I've heard some devs this past year – to include Hideo – say all the real creativity in gaming is retreating to indies, away from AAAs because of today's ballooning production costs and risk-aversion.

I say this because with Hideo, you're getting indie risk-taking and creative latitudes but backed by AAA funding. Not many studios can offer this. It's often one or the other: AAA samey sh*t that looks incredible, or underfunded albeit unbridled creativity.

Glad you’re enjoying the game this time around. I know you tried it once and it didn’t click for you.

Not sure what your plans are for the sequel but I can’t wait to see what your thoughts are on that one.
