I didn't even know you could do that. I avoided combat like the plague in the first game. I've only had one encounter so far but I did notice it was much easier to take guys out.

This is pretty much where I'm at. Yea great. Boss battles much improved in this one.
All combat is, took a head on guns blazing approach to the first encounter with enemies, all much smoother and more responsive, then took a stealth approach with the strand in area at night, again much much better,

It's essentially just like the 1st one with improvements in almost all areas.

Took me like 3 attempts over the period of 2 years for DS1 to finally grab me, once it clicked I loved it, just finished it last year.
Second game is even better, put about 20 odd hours in already, it's very hard to turn off once you get going in it.
Combat is way better I love taking out enemy camps now and trying new weapons, gadgets etc, I avoided most of the camps in DS1, much more fun now.
Actually being able to fight BTs properly now, UI improvements, QOL improvements, new skill tree, better dialogue, loads of cool weapons/gadgets. Done 2 boss fights so far and both were epic. Loving it.

I'm about 20 hours in. Put in a bunch of time this weekend was very hard to put this down. It's crazy how much more improved this game is over the first one. I liked the first one but I'm loving this one. If it wasn't for E33 this would be my GOTY even over KCD2.
The characters and everything is so much better written this time as well.
I've been putting in way way more time doing side stuff, rebuilding travel options. I love seeing the sign that someone used my stuff.

I was on the fence but this post sold me. Gonna grab it this week. I always wanted to play the first one but just never got around to it. Will I be ok just jumping into this one?

I would at least watch a recap video and then the in-game recap. They then have a sort of dictionary option during all cutscenes to look up key words and what people are talking about.
A lot of people are saying you have to play the first one but honestly I disagree.

Honestly this just keeps getting better and better, Cant believe this and Expedition 33 came out within a few months of each other.
i think im episode 8 now just unlocked the greatest mode of transport in history, the coffin board lol, cruising the sand dunes on this thing is so good.
got some other great upgrades recently as well the silenced tranq sniper being the highlight also just realized how good BT holo grenades are for bases.

Beat it this past weekend. Amazing game. Thought about getting the plat but honestly I'm not putting that much work into a game. I don't mind going for a plat in a game I love but it has to be reasonable and this game is asking to much.

I'm still playing DS1 (about 20h in right now) but know all too well what you describe here.
You beat a game or know you're about to; you check the Plat because it's been an awesome journey and...you've half or fewer of all trophies and then see a sprinkling of 0.1%ers like replay game – no heals, no saves. Bronze. Lol. Derp. Nope.
Is DS1 Plat like that?

Yes DS1 requires a huge time sink for the plat. I'm talking like an extra 50+ hours. DS2 isn't quite as bad but still to much. Probably an extra 30+ hours for me. Requiring me to max out all connections which isn't to bad right now because I have almost all the roads setup and can easily drive all over the map. Maybe I'll come back and do it but probably not.
