Multiplat Official Cyberpunk: Phantom Liberty Discussion

Will the PL expansion prove a do-over for the title after widely maligned launch?

I'm a couple of hours into Phantom Liberty, fucking fantastic! What was Dogtown like before the expansion? Was it walled off?

I never care about celeb integration into video games, it's always voice talent first. However, I've been a huge fan of Keanu Reeves since Johnny Mnemonic, so it was cool to see him in a Cyberpunk game, but I didn't feel he was a great cast for Silverhand at first. He grew on me and I like him even more in my second full go around.

I gotta tell ya though, rolling with Stringer Bell is just too fucking awesome. I love Idris in Luther. It's an underappreciated gem of a series, and one of my all time favs. Def watch that before the movie, though you can skip the latter. Him being kind of like that here makes it so fun. They captured his coolness well.

I really like the President and Songbird characters so far too. I hear the story delves further beyond the blackwall. It's one of the most intriguing aspects of the lore, can't wait to see how this plays out!

It's nice to see CDPR really rebound here. There was nothing like Witcher 3, and now we can say the same for Cyberpunk, without a bunch of asterisks. I'm now at a point where I can go back to the rest of Night City areas, as I have so much yet to do there, namely some unfinished business...

I haven't played this game since it was released and I enjoyed it (on PC). I want to replay it again eventually but on PS5 the haptics in this game are incredible and make the guns feel so much better. They even released a mod for PC to add it as well.

I'm going to wait a bit though I can't justify paying so much for it right now. To many good games that I haven't played yet.

It feels like a completely different game, especially with the perk/skills overhaul, driving and police system system improvements (game changers really, especially driving). Obviously a lot of story beats will be exact, but I'd suggest starting a different career path. I hear they have new endings too, but I haven't looked into it much to avoid spoilers.

Anyway, you can still buy a PS4 used copy (far cheaper option) and use that to get the free upgrade on your PS5. I know it still works for Xbox like that because my brother in-law just did it. You'll have to buy the Phantom Liberty expansion, but at least you're getting all new stuff there.

This is from a reddit post

With the new Cyberpunk 2.0 update and the DLC being released tomorrow, I went back to Cyberpunk on my PS5 and realised I only had the PS4 version. I remember they had a free upgrade awhile ago, but it took my awhile to figure it out so I thought I might not be the only person having the same problem. Here’s a step by step guide:

  1. Insert PS4 disc
  2. Restart PS5
  3. On the PS5 home menu, press down when you are on the Cyberpunk icon
  4. There should be a “trial” of the PS5 icon to your right and it should also say free upgrade. Click it
  5. Click '...' on the next screen
  6. Select the PS5 free upgrade
Once it is fully downloaded, you can safely delete your PS4 version to save space.

Special thanks to u/Ok_Pear_4710, I followed their instructions and the only thing I needed to do for their instructions to work was to restart the console once the disc was in. The rest I added after searching, so I thought I would put it all together in one spot!

Edit: yes it takes your saves across, but anything pre 2.0 might miss some of the 2.0 features, so it is recommended by CD PROJEKT that you start again!

107 minute review of Phantom Liberty for those who are interested -

I like her shtick at the beginning. I'm playing pretty much full melee too, but with a blade. It is so much better with the dash and and parry mechanics.

One of the biggest improvements, like she mentions, is how you can make a more fulfilling and defined build here. You're always feeling like you're progressing towards something.

What builds did you experiment with in this? I know you're a big fan too, did you play through the Phantom Liberty expansion yet?

Played through it once.

Clearly the best expansion of the year, and I'd rank it among the best ever. Only have Blood & Wine in front of it.

Makes me wish CDPR would make one last expansion, as was their original plan. Very curious as to what it would have been.

Played a gunslinger build, focusing on Johnny's Pistol.

I forgot about Johnny's pistol. I haven't gotten to that point yet, but I remember using it a ton, despite being melee heavy my first go around too.

I just played that Mr Hands gig that the girl in the review you posted was in. That was really cool.

I've done a ton of gigs on this playthrough, and plan on doing them all as I missed 95% the first time. I didn't realize you had to select them on the map, or stumble into them. I've enjoyed them all so far.

I never once fast traveled before either, only just realized how it works lol.

I never felt then need to, as I never got tired of driving through the city, even though most vehicles handled like ass initially. It's the best open world ever, especially now with vehicle driving so fun.

Dog Town doesn't have a lot of crossroads/paths, so you constantly have to go far around things. I had to fast travel in there.

Johnnys gun is not best stat wise but its coolest by far lol

Yeah its great to see how public opinion changed from dog shit to very good game with 2.0 phantom liberty.Gotta give it to dev team for not giving up on game.

would be goat level if it just had more variety in activities and side quests but maybe in sequel

Btw edgerunners was genius move marketing wise, it actually revived game before 2.0

Lmao, another huge update coming. Honestly I’d feel scammed if I played this already. Those who have waited this out are going to be rewarded big time. I think I’ll wait another year before getting this

Buut we will find out in time

Every update for the last 3 years has been hyped up to be 'huge.' And most have been small fixes and improvements.

I imagine this next update to be quite possibly the final update with the final touches and adjustments, like how some areas of Dogtown are buggy with slowdown.

CDPR is looking to put CP2077 behind them and focus on future projects.

- New hangouts with romance characters
- Mobile Radio, Listen to music anywhere
- 5 new bikes and a new Porsche car!
- New bike gameplay, wheelies, flips, and knife throwing from your bike!
- Replayable Car Races and new rewards
- Gangs will now react to your choices and send hit squads after you if you go against them in gigs/quests
- Re-done and finished some previously unfinished roads and highways that lacked NPCs
- Car chases have been worked into old gigs to make them far more engaging

And there’s even more that they haven’t announced, an insane amount of effort has went into this update that wasn’t even planned initially, CDPR are INCREDIBLE.

Tempted to buy the Ultimate Edition as I've been wanting to give this another try. But I don't understand why it's $60 when I can buy the base game for $20 now and if I even want to buy the DLC it's only another $30.

I was really hoping for an NG+

The DLC has already sold 4.5 million copies. From what I read it's a 20% attach rate, which is excellent. I'm not sure if they are counting last gen console versions in that rate though, as they can't even purchase the DLC.

Unless they've changed their stance, you'll get all the updates the ultimate edition has from the base game, outside the DLC. If you're on console, you can buy a copy from last gen and get the next gen upgrade free as well, along with the updates (minus the DLC of course).

It's how I feel about it, to be honest.

I gave it two tries, refunded it just after launch and then again about a year ago, when I did most of the main quest and all of the side quests.

Now I'm supposed to be stoked because I can replay a more polished version of the same thing?

When I heard they're finally adding in the metro, from the 2018 trailer, into the game I thought -

"People who are annoyed it hasn't been in the game until now are going to ride it once and never use it again."

Aren't the fast travel nodes far more convenient?

100%. Would be cool if sometimes when you ride it some shit goes down and you have to fight your way out or some other random shit like that.

From what they've previewed there will be some random events that occur while riding the metro.

If this game launched like it is after the 1.5 update, even sans Phantom Liberty, it would be an easy 9.5-10 and critically lauded. I really they would have waited until then to release it. Then it would get the praise it deserves. As is, it's an exceptional game which I've gone back to twice.
