Multiplat Official Cyberpunk: Phantom Liberty Discussion

Will the PL expansion prove a do-over for the title after widely maligned launch?

Nah, it was never on Game Pass. There were some early rumors that it was heading there, but nothing came of it. Probably will be eventually, though. "The Witcher 3" has been on there a few times, so I imagine this will be too at some point.
I could swear I saw it on there. I thought, “Yeah, I might give that another shot,” as I was browsing it. Idk. I’m getting fucking old so who knows.

Interesting tilt on setting design for the sequel. I guess, in addition to below, 2077's Night City comes off more maybe in the vein of Seoul or Tokyo?

"One developer took the opportunity to explain one area in which CDPR fell flat with the development of Cyberpunk 2077 – it didn’t have accurate manhole covers. It was pointed out by fans shortly after the game’s release that the manhole covers in Night City resembled those found in Europe, rather than the manhole covers typically seen in North America.

Hernberg continued:

Our curbs are different, our color is different on all of our signs. Everything’s just slightly different. It doesn’t break immersion, but it’s just that little thing where you’re like, ‘well, maybe this wasn’t made by people who live here or people who fully understand all of American culture.’"

I'll get Phantom Liberty when I get the 5090...

*Drool*

I can't wait to finally play Cyberpunk. My understanding is after tons of work they really did fix it and churn out a killer title

I'm just finishing my first playthrough and it's an incredible game for sure, one of the best I've played.

Last night I concluded Phantom Liberty without realizing it replaces the original main storyline ending, so I'll go back and complete that one now. Hanako has been waiting at Embers for like 80 hours of gametime now <6>

How well would a 3080 Ti run it?

I only have a RTX 3060 and it has been smooth and great looking for me on close to highest settings

A random ingame screenshot I took

I cannot wait for the sequel. We're definitely getting some behind the blackwall AI invasion. Mr Blue Eyes, Alt, and Songbird will surely play big roles there, and I expect President Myers to try and steamroll Night City. We're definitely going to space too!

With everything they've learned, being their first non fantasy game, they can spend so much more of their resources on better things. Moving to UE5 will let them hire devs without the need to train them on their own engine too. They also won't be held back by PS4 tech.

I do hope they release proper mod tools for the game though, just make the REDengine open source now that it's being abandoned. CP 2077 has so much more potential modding wise!

It would run it great. I had to play it over the winter on my 3070 (5800x) laptop. With quality mode for DLSS, I was able to play things at mostly high settings with HDR and some ray tracing on my ultrawide monitor at 1440p. You'll have to tweak far less settings than I did.

It does not replace it but just adds a choice

I was playing on a 1070 at release and it ran perfectly in 1080p. You might not have full ray tracing on, but it's definitely playable I didn't notice any issues at all.
I couldn't believe people were bad mouthing the look of the game, I never had any issues on my dated computer. Not sure with recent updates.

Reinstalled and bought Phantom Liberty.

I played a few rounds of old saves, then decided to start over.

The game feels a hell of a lot harder than it was...

Mower has repeatedly ruined me so far...

Edit: Restarted and retained my skill points instead of spending them at the character creation screen. Head says go with intelligence first, as that was my go to before, but heart says go with cool and ignore opening doors etc instead...

Honestly, not really liking it so far. Building a strong character, then releasing contagion and other quickhacks was a fun reward. No idea why they had to ruin it...

Fired up a new playthrough, my 4th, and decided a few things differently.

I've never done a tech-shotgun build and so far its pretty powerful. Within the same upgrade branch (Body) Blunt-Mele is a big option but in the early game they just aren't fun or effective.

I DIDN'T meet with Meredith Stout before 'The Pickup' so paying for the bot in the mission, that actually short-circuits the implants of nearby enemies wasn't an option. Instead when Royce shows up and threatens to get violent, in the cutscene V holds a pistol up to Royce's chin while other enemies surround me and Jackie... I make the smartest decision possible and blew Royce's head off. Would have thought that would have been an instant Game Over screen, but the other enemies were easily dispatched. At the end of 'The Pickup' there was no boss fight because Royce was already dead, and there were just a few enemies instead. After exiting the building there was no rally with Militech forces & Meredith Stout, and instead there was celebratory dialogue with Jackie I haven't heard before.

Instead of getting to & through 'The Heist' as soon as possible to open up the entire game's map...I've taken my time and been 'completing' the first section just to see how long it takes and how high of a level I can get and so far I'm 8 hours in and at Level 13 with only a few things left before 'The Heist' is the only thing I have left on the map.

Been playing the game and not turning this thread into my gaming journal, and there's a BIG issue I've encountered just in the last few hours.

When I fire my Tier 5 Tech Shotgun, and automatic weapons, at enemies there's MAJOR slowdown, like down to 3 to 4 FPS for between a third of a second, to two-thirds of a second. Its really bad.

Its the only slowdown I've encountered playing any version of the game, and I can't find anything online about anyone else having the same issue.

Thought of a troubleshoot. Previously I restarted my XBox and it didn't fix it. But I reloaded a save from 5 hours ago and there was no slowdown. Then I reloaded a save from 2 hours ago and still no slowdown.
And I reloaded my most recent save, thinking a perk on my upgrade tree may be still bugged, but apparently re-specing isn't needed because reloading old saves fixed the problem... for now.

Sorry to bother with posting this. I'd delete my previous post but... dubbs.

Finished Phantom Liberty, and rather than doing everything in the expansion at once I did main and side missions from the base game in-between missions from the expansion. IMO that's the best way to do it.

Also did the...
Betray Songbird
...choice this time around, and the absolute best aspect about this expansion which is wholey unique is that there isn't just a different ending... there's an entirely different finale with different endings for each. The entirety of the story cannot be experienced with just one playthrough, there's important details with each finale & ending.

One flaw...
The first time I played through it I took Songbird's side and you see Alex kill Harrison... and *poof* Alex is never heard or seen from again. Pretty disappointing after the development she had, especially with the bar-dancing scene.

In my 2nd playthrough after betraying Songbird she's immediately killed by Harrison. Makes sense, but that doesn't excuse how she just disappears in the previous choice.

Just searched 'phantom liberty alex' on YouTube and apparently there's a scene at the bar I didn't get on my first playthrough -

This second playthrough and experiencing the entirety of the story backs up my opinion that this is the best expansion of any game ever. Even better than Witcher 3's 'Blood & Wine.'

Right now I'm wrapping some things up with Rogue's & Judy's missions, and then I'm off to the finale & endings.

This is probably going to be the last time I playthrough the game until just before the sequel comes out in a few years. Don't want to keep playing it over and over until I'm sick of it.

With CDPR opening a new studio in Boston, and working on multiple games using Unreal Engine 5 the future is very very bright for the best studio in the industry.

Bet very very very few players ever discovered this within the game without hearing about it online -

Starting to get back into it.

I told myself that I was going to take a different route, but I went into Body/Tech/Intelligence yet again, for unlocking, though I missed a few speech checks because they've been raised.

I have eleven park points to spend. I'm honestly not sure where to put them, as on my last (incomplete) playthrough, I went full stealth contagion, as I wanted to do a non-lethal playthrough. I honestly don't give a shit this time round, and found myself using a tech shotgun, followed by a quickhacks once my rounds were out, and grenades from time to time. It was honestly a lot more fun to just wreck shop. I did find out though, that there isn't a cooldown on quickhacks anymore, so I can cast more than one of the same quickhack on a target. It made contagion a lot more viable.

I'm still locked in Watson. I've only the main missions to go until the second act.

Just finished the ending, and I was forced to go the Rogue ending with Johnny getting V's body. I was trying to do the Secret Ending but there was a complication.

When the game was first released it was reported that all you have to do is get your Johnny percentage (center number on the pause menu) up to 70%, and I had got up to 85% so I thought I achieved what was needed to get the Secret Ending.

You have to wait for 5 minutes during the final 'Johnny & V on the roof' conversation when the secret ending optiom appears... but I was waiting far longer on multiple conversation menus. Wouldn't be surprised if I wasted 20 minutes. As it turns out, the 70+% is not the requirement.

I was looking for a challenge and I was hoping that suicide assault would have been it.

This is worth keeping in mind with the 2.2 update but I think the advancements in the upgrade trees and cyberware made this game far far too easy even on the Hard difficulty.

If you're going into the game with a specific build in mind with cyberware to compliment the upgrade choices... you will probably get extremely OP.

By level 60 I had 640 health and 1100 armor.
I had Cyberware that instantly restores me to 100% health after it hits 50%, and I had three of those charges, and they refill.
And my health refilled very quickly from damage, like I was freaking Wolverine.

I was basically unkillable.
Every enemy encounter was far far too easy, including the final boss, Adam Smasher.
Add to that I had a Tech Shotgun that did 500 damage, and did three times the damage after being charged up for 3/4th a second.
Oh, and I was a netrunner as well.

By point is... if you've played the game before, with the recent updates you should strongly consider playing on the hardest difficulty.

Big coincodence here... I just finished my playthrough and those were the three I max leveled at 20.

But as I previously mentioned bump up the difficulty to Very Hard. I think the 10 extra levels, up to 60, makes the game entirely too easy.

honestly don't give a shit this time round, and found myself using a tech shotgun, followed by a quickhacks once my rounds were out, and grenades from time to time.

Look up in the perk tree where to expand your medkits & grenades up to 3 rather than just 2.

In DogTown you'll easily be able to find 'The Order' Tech Shotgun, and I'd say that's your boss gun. Otherwise, stick to regular double-barrell Tech Shotguns and hopefully you'll find one with two expandable options. Use the Chimera battery (what you get from the tank boss at the beginning of the expansion) to craft an option to double the power of a tech weapon's power to 200%.
