Mark Millar's AMERICAN JESUS and SUPERCROOKS Movies in the Works
Waypoint Entertainment has acquired the rights to Mark Millar's graphic novels
American Jesus and
Supercrooks. Millar, a star in the comic book sphere, is the writer behind
Wanted,
Kick-Ass and
Kingsman: The Secret Service.
Waypoint’s Ken Kao (
The Nice Guys) will produce both films with partner Dan Kao and Addictive Pictures' Russell Ackerman (
Mama) and John Schoenfelder under the latter two's first-look deal with Waypoint.
American Jesus was drawn by artist Peter Gross and follows a modern 12-year-old boy who realizes he is the second coming of Jesus Christ and must save mankind.
With illustrations by Leinil Francis Yu,
Supercrooks is a heist story about eight supervillains forced out of retirement in an attempt to rob the world’s most notorious crime boss.
Millar's work includes
Captain America: Civil War and
The Ultimates, inspiring much of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Several of his original works, including
Kingsman, have all been adapted into successful feature films and franchises and other recent hit series such as
Superior,
Chrononauts,
Empress,
Huck,
MPH and
Starlight are in development as film or TV projects.
