Am I the only one who thinks debates are retarded and prove nothing? Far too often it ends up just being who is more charismatic or who made the audience clap more instead of just the facts. You don’t need to be able to articulate a good response within 60 seconds to have the facts on your side.

Pretty much the only debate I care about is Presidential debate because being able to think and respond fast should be relevant to the job

I tend to agree. Debates are about scoring points, not about getting to the bottom of an issue. I kind of like watching William Lane Craig debate atheists, but the level of thought on the table in the debates is always incredibly superficial in comparison to that of the thinkers usually involved in their lectures and talks. Debates are sport, and it's more about spiking the football than actually figuring out who's right, far more often than not. That is, most of the time. Well meaning debates can be great. This wouldn't be one.

I don't pay much attention to Ben Shapiro, but he's been on my radar since the last election because of this place. I don't recall ever having seen him challenge any politician running for office to a debate. Not once.

You're not alone. Debate is stupid. It's a performance, a show, nothing more. You can get destroyed in a debate, and still be completely correct. You just put up a shitty performance and got dunked on by a sophist.

Him being a hack has no bearing on her ability to debate. From what I've seen, she wouldn't do well in a debate setting because her breadth and depth of knowledge isn't good enough.

But, that's speculative, and irrelevant to whether or not he's a hack. And he definitely is.

Glad I’m not alone. These YouTube political debates seem to be fairly popular but I pretty much will never click any thread or video on it because I’m genuinely not interested, so I never knew what the general feeling about debate is.
