Oblivian's Adaptations

What was involved in redoing a room? Just redecorating or more involved? I'm redoing a bathroom right now so I'm finding it really interesting hearing what other people are doing, especially the stuff they do themselves and what they hire people for.

And good lifting, as always.

A hell of a lot more than that. We pulled all the carpet, had to prep the subfloor, laid new flooring (laminate wood), put on new baseboards, repainted the entire thing, new blinds, new outlet covers, etc. It was pretty time consuming since I didn't take off work all week either. All in all, it wasn't as expensive as I expected. It was roughly $1k for a 16x17 room for all materials. That includes a $100 rug too and the blinds are the nice wooden ones. It looks great, but I fucking hate doing home improvements.

I don't know what's more impressive, your training, or your fight picks? Nice work man.

Is it floating? I hope you left room for expansion if it is. Laminate, on average, expands about 1/8-3/8 of an inch. There's also the issue of sound dampening, carpet and the padding absorb a lot of noise (laminate does not, unless a sound dampening pad is put under-- also protects the homeowner from molds).

Sorry, I'm an apprentice flooring contractor.

Fun stuff...I did a similar project last year after a pipe burst under the foundation. Put new flooring in the living room, painted, scraped ceilings for the whole downstairs, new baseboard, new outlets & new lighting, some electrical work etc. Nice when you're done. Props for getting it done in a week, took me almost 2 months.

Yes, it is floating. We left 1/4-3/8 of an inch in spacing. The floor came with the padding underneath. I forget the brand we used, but it was one of the top brands. We didn't go cheap. My dad knows what he's doing because he was a Commercial Project Manager. If it wasn't for him, I probably would have just paid to have someone do it.

Flooring is brutal IMO. I wore knee pads or knee sleeves both days and my knees still took a beating. Laying the floor wasn't really hard except for the weird jigsaw pieces we had to cut, but it's taxing on your body. I'm much more of a sit at a desk type guy.

Flooring is easy...unless you're doing a whole house or something, using one product(hallways suck copious amounts of dick). And it's tough on the body. There's not a day that goes by where my knees and lumbar spine aren't screaming to get a new job.

225 lbs x 5
275 lbs x 3
305 lbs x 3

*+5 again next week. Much easier than expected.

Thickbar Chins
+35 lbs x 1 x 6 sets

Static Stretch
10-15 minutes

I forgot to mention yesterday that my left knee got strained a bit descending too fast on a squat. I didn't think much of it and thought that it'd be fine today, but I woke up really sore. I decided not to fuck around with olympic lifts and do something else.

Boxing: Five 2 min. rounds

Nice work. I got 28 on a bad day, so hopefully I'll be able to match your score tomorrow.

Training schedule is all fucked up since I've been fighting off a cold and since we had a blizzard.

Bas Rutten Cds
Boxing: Five 2 min rounds
Thai Boxing: Five 2 min rounds

Heavy Bag
Three 3 min rounds

*Also shoveled for over an hour. The snow was packed and contained ice as well. It was probably just as hard, if not harder than the above workout.

*Beltless. Left knee felt fine until the last set. It really started aching after that.

Thickbar Chins
+17.5 lbs x 5 x 5 sets

That will smoothen out with practise. One thing that will help you learn to clean into a squat is to warm up, cool off, or whatever, by drilling hang squat cleans with something comfortable like 135 on the bar. From the hang position, give the bar just the slightest nudge with your hips, and drop under.

Great post. I'll have to try this out.

@Oblivian, long time lurker but never posted. Keep up the solid lifting. Always impressed by your press (both strict and push).

Still having issues with the knee. It only gets strained at the bottom portion of a squat, especially if the weight transfers to my toes. I wanted to take another day off of lifting.

Bas Rutten Cd's as Warmup
Boxing: Two 2 min rounds
Thai Boxing: Two 2 min rounds

February 2011 Conditioning Challenge - Tabata Interval Rounds
http://www.sherdog.net/forums/f13/f...ing-challenge-tabata-interval-rounds-1529273/

Oblivian - 216 reps (96 BW squats, 72 pushups, 48 burpees)

12 squats per interval, 9 pushups per interval, 6 burpees per interval. I would finish the squats and pushups very early. Squats I can probably do up to 14-15 per interval comfortably. Pushups I'll probably keep the same even though the actual pushups weren't hard. Burpees became tough do to the pushups. My arms were fatigued. The last two intervals I had to split into 3 + 3 instead of 6 reps.
