Oblivian's Adaptations

Heading to my parents' house tonight for pizza. I think I'm going to take the day off from lifting and make it up tomorrow. That means I'll have another 3 days in a row of lifting, but I'll deload on Front Squats on Saturday. It shouldn't be too bad.

Oblivian - What knee sleeves did you wind up buying? I remember talking about to you and Enright about it about a month ago.

Let me do some digging. I can't remember the company I ordered from, but I'll be able to find it in a bit.

Do you like them?

I guess - I don't really have a place of reference as I've never used any other. I feel a bit more confident with them on, but I don't think it really effects my squat much.

Thanks.

I think I'll be getting some either for christmas (or possibly sooner).

Nice work Oblivian; you should be good for that 190 strict press then, no?

That is the plan. If not, 187.5 lbs at least. My bodyweight is less now at 174 lbs or so, but I'm hoping to have it down to 170 lbs at the time. I'll be taking time off from SOHP after that, so it's now or never!

Post a damn form video for your squats already :\

Patience, my friend. I don't want to start a big form critique/suggestion thread until I'll be devoting more time to squats. That will be in about 4 weeks when I'm done with this cycle. I'll be squatting 2 days with long sessions on squats both days. I figure I can fix my form. With that said, I've watched more videos and I don't think the squat is as bad as I thought. If you want to have some form of an idea on what it looks like, here are some videos of previous squats. I don't think my form has changed much since.

Most recent: YouTube - Squat: 325 lbs x 1 (NEW PR)

Months ago: YouTube - Squat: 315 lbs x 1 (NEW PR)

Long time ago, right after getting the rack (this looks more high bar): YouTube - Squat: 295 lbs x 1

Honestly, I think it's an issue with lack of confidence. I didn't squat for 2 years due to lack of a rack, so I did zero lifting with weight on my back. It definitely feels awkward and heavy on every rep. I remember when I first started doing deadlifts, I really held myself back because every rep felt very hard. This may be the same type of issue, but I feel that when I'm struggling, my form breaks down a bit. That 325 lbs felt AWFUL when I did it, but it really doesn't look TOO bad.

Nice work in here. I've been reading this awhile and just thought I'd comment.

Also, have you gotten a new belt since those squat videos? Inzer lever-locking belt is hard to beat.

Nope. I realize that I need to break down and get a legit belt as some point. I really avoid using a belt if possible, but I use them on most 1RM attempts. I've got a list of shit I want to buy, but we are also in the process of trying to save a shit load of money to have a baby. My wife wants to take time off of work after we do, so I want to have about a years worth of her salary set aside. This keeps my training spending pretty minimal.

Good luck on the baby. Not that you're a pauper or anything...but you'd think with all the charitable organizations online there would be somewhere donations could be made to help get belts, wraps, heavy bags etc...into the hands of hard-working atheletes.

Screw dropping off canned goods for hungry kids (kidding). I'd rather send 2lb of whey to a drug-free, hard-training kid in Iowa. Know what I mean?

I don't know how serious you are, but that's not a bad idea. If I had an extra 70 bucks or so, I'd pick someone on this site that really needed it and send them an Inzer belt anonymously for Xmas.

Times are tough. I'd rather help a hard working lifter than some bum who'd rather live off the government dole.

I think it's a good idea, too. I don't want to hijack the man's log, though. It might seem trivial to others, but I would help people training hard get some basics.

I just got home from a run and need to shower (then watch a movie with the kids). I'll give it some thought and maybe start a new thread in the S&P to see how much interest this generates.

X-trainer - I can't, in good conscience, help someone who's already stronger than I am. :D

I don't mind "chatter" in my log. It is a cool idea. Honestly, if there was someone on this site busting ass with some shitty home gym since they couldn't afford a membership, I'd have no problem throwing $50 in to get the guy a rack and a legit weight set. I used to always hook kid's up with skateboard stuff in my old town. I would skate a board for a month tops, whereas kid's would skate boards for a year straight. Whenever I'd give them a board, they'd be ecstatic because my wore out board was 10x better than what they were riding.

I'm by no means a candidate for it. I'm just a very budget conscious/financial planning type guy. I've probably spent $1500-$2000 on equipment already. It's hard to tell the wife that I'm not saving what we planned because I bought new training equipment when I already have a weight room, a grappling room, and a heavy bag area.
