Oblivian's Adaptations

What'd you do to your hand?

It got bruised after a CoC Gripper session. It's only left hand though. I never feel like I set and grip a gripper correctly with my left as compared to my right. After the session, my left palm hurt a bit, but the next day it was pretty bad. At some points in time, it shows an actual bruise. Yesterday, it turned into a knot. Deadlifting is the only lift that really aggravates it and I've avoided any gripper work with my left hand.

I don't know if you use over/under and rotate which hand is over already but if you don't you may try switching which hand is over. When I hurt my hand last year and started easing back into deadlifts I had to switch my grip for a while and it actually made a difference.

Well yesterday I did the 405 lbs single with my left under then I did the 435 lbs with my right under. The knot happened after the 435 lbs single, but it already was hurting after the 405 lbs single. I'm not really sure which way would be better to be honest. It's also important to note that before hand I did BOR's. I hope the fucker heals soon.

^No kidding. If I've ever had a bruise on my palm, I don't remember it...callouses, blisters, cuts, holes, sure, but never a bruise.

(Yeah, that was definitely to your first post, Corrosion :) )

What a bizzare injury. Hope it gets better for you soon.

It's in the dead center of the palm. Imagine trying to catch a punch with your fist. When you close your hand over the fist, the spot the knuckles his is right where the bruise is. It fucking sucks.

Do you like it? Have you done them before (the videos)? Do you do the videos with teh wife?

Most importantly: how confused are your muscles?

I've seen bits and pieces of all of the videos, but I've only done the plyos. The plyos is supposed to "be the Xtreme - it puts the X in P90x." Since I only do that one, my muscles aren't confused. The other ones wouldn't serve my purposes and would impend on strength gains and certain conditioning gains.

I actually like the plyo workout. It definitely has it's cheesy points, but you can have music on to overshadow his talking and just watch what they are doing. The format is lots of rounds of a modified tabata format. You are basically doing 1 exercise for 30 seconds straight, another for 30 seconds straght, another for 30 seconds straight, then one for a minute straight. Repeat that for a total of 5 minutes and then you get a 30 second break. So 5 minutes on, 30 seconds off. I'm pretty sure you have 8 rounds total but you begin with a 5 minute warmup and a 5 minute cool down. It's right around an hour. 90% of the exercises are legit. BW squats, jumping squats, split squats, jump with knees to chest, etc. The other 10% are ok and they serve as a good cool down.

Every single time I get done with it, I come upstairs and make the X to my wife with my arms while cracking up. She always says, "you are such a ***got". Lol.

I just do it whenever I enter a room. Otherwise, someone might not realize that I have arrived.

I'm sorry to hear about your hand, but you may need to see a doctor. You either tore a muscle or tendon.

Bummer. That is not what I wanted to hear. Since the wife and I both work for small offices, the insurance we are provided is only health savings accounts. Our deductibles are close to $3k. I just went to the dentist for the first time in 14 years, and I'm racking up a $1k bill with them. A visit to the doctor right now is not something I'd be too thrilled on as we are also trying to save for a baby. FML.

Warmup
Jump Rope: 5 minutes
Light Heavy Bag Work: 5 minutes

Complex (Power Clean to SOHP to Overhead Squat)
95 lbs x 5
135 lbs x 3
155 lbs x 2
175 lbs x 1
*Pretty pumped with getting 175 lbs. It's odd because I use a very narrow grip for SOHP. Overhead Squatting 175 lbs with my hands barely on the knurling was interesting. Next week I'm going to skip the complex and do a normal session of Power Cleans, SOHP, and Overhead Squats. The following 4 weeks (in conjunction with cycle 2 of 5/3/1 on my other 3 days of lifting) may be a different complex. I might do something like hang clean to jerk to overhead squat.

Thickbar Chins/Pullups
Pullups: BW x 15
Chins: BW x 15

Pinch Grip
Four 10's x fail/negatives x 2 sets
Two 35's x 5 (both hands)
Two 45's x 3 (both hands)
*I've been having a lot of trouble on pinch grip in the winter when the weights are cold.

Levering
Olympic Sleeve + 2.5 lbs x 5 x 3 sets

Grippers (Right hand only)
CoC #1: 10 reps
CoC #2: about a cm/mm away x 3 sets
CoC #1.5: 5 reps
*A strategy I'm using now to close the gap on the #2 is to close it as far as I can with my right hand, hold it for a second, assist with my left hand until the handles touch, and then let go with my left while trying to hold it with my right. Hopefully this will work.

Dumbbell Pinch Grip/Claw Hold (Left hand only)
20 lbs York dumbbell x 15-20 second hold
30 lbs York dumbbell x pinch grip (no hold) x 3 sets
20 lbs Hex dumbbell x 15-20 second hold

Bas Rutten All Around Workout
30 minutes (lots of pushups, jumping squats, shadowboxing, crunches, neck bridges, split squats, jump with knees to chest, sprawls, etc.)

Static Stretch (full body)
25 minutes

Good point, it probably is something like this. I mean, palms just don't seem to bruise from simple trauma like many other body parts, otherwise, I'm sure it's something we would have all experienced before.

Yesterday was a day off. I got home, ate, and watched a movie. The movie ended a little before 8, and I headed straight for bed. I love nights like that. 10+ hours of sleep.

Warmup + In Between Sets
Jump Rope: 10 minutes
Kicks on Heavy Bag: 5 minutes

Push Press - 5/3/1 Cycle 1, Wave 3
135 lbs x 5 (warmup)
165 lbs x 5
185 lbs x 3
210 lbs x 5
*I should have gone for 6, but I held the lockout for a while on 5. I'm pretty sure I'm good for 5 reps on 215, and I'm hoping that I can get 225 lbs x 5 here in a couple cycles.

Bench Press - Paused
135 lbs x 5 (warmup)
205 lbs x 3
215 lbs x 2
235 lbs x 1
*I still suck at paused benching. I lose tightness during the pause. I think I'm going to make a last ditch effort at getting another 1RM for the competition and then focusing on form work for bench. I think if I fix my form, I'll be able to add some weight.

February Conditioning Challenge
The challenge is explained here: http://www.sherdog.net/forums/f14/february-conditioning-challenge-1142280/
7 full sets - moderate pace with little to no breaks. I'm gunning for 8 sets, but it'd have to be a sprint. Puking will probably occur. I'll try it at month's end. I'll also have to do it on a fresh day and not after lifting.

I think I need to start perusing the conditioning forum. I've neglected the crap out of my gas tank since about Christmas...

mschatz is doing a good job with making sure there are conditioning challenges. I'm trying to revive old threads like the 50 burpee challenge and the 100 burpee challenge. I'm going to redo the 100 burpee challenge thread today at work. I'm hoping that forum could see a bit more action. It can be dead at times.
