And what is that belief based on given you seemed unaware of the qualifications of previous commissioners as well as the extent to which EMS calls represent the bulk of NYFD work?
I stated that I believe the leader of the largest fire department in the country should be headed by someone with that experience. You have stated that they respond mostly to medical calls, and I accept that, but that is why a firefighter has that experience as well as the experience of dealing with fire. Bonsignore doesn’t have the latter part.
So even though you concede that she has relevant experience it's still not good enough? You haven't addressed the fact that previous commissioners not only lacked firefighting experience, some lacked public safety experience in general. But somehow it's when the minority is hired that this becomes a problem? Surely you can see why that comes off as your singling her out for her identity when, according to your criteria, even less qualified applicants have had the job with less controversy. Why would she even need firefighting experience when less than 10% of NYFD's calls are for fires?

I'm being harsh with you but in all honesty your problem here is as elsewhere, you're led around by the nose by the algorithm and you don't 2nd guess it at all. It told Bonsibore was a DEI hire and the fact that she's an obvious butch lesbian was enough to convince you despite her relevant experience and how it compares to previous individuals who held that office.

Now, I've only read a little here so maybe I'm wrong. Maybe despite her many years of experience Bonsignore has below average performance ratings. Maybe there are internal communications showing that another more qualified candidate was passed up solely for diversity reasons.

But you're not appealing to evidence, you're basically appealing to her identity and nitpicking her resume while ignoring her relevant experience to act like its self-evident that Bonsignore is an unqualified DEI hire. That's obviously not convincing to those of us who aren't down the algorithm rabbithole of anti-DEI content.

The best way to combat DEI is to catalogue the race/ethnicity/religion/sexual orientation of Mamdani's appointees and then compare that to what we think the race/ethnicity/religion/sexual orientation of the appointees should be.

Otherwise, how can we know if DEI is a problem?

Where are you getting that she’s Jewish. In my search; all I got was that she has not declared a religion in and that information is simply not available.

I am most certainly not advocating for dei-I just find it humorous that his wonderfully diverse appointments, somehow-an oversight to be sure, none have been Jewish. And in my opinion, he definitely leans anti-semetic. Maybe he will appoint a Jewish dog warden or something, but nothing in the inner circle.

I saw an AP post about his pick and when I read about the fact that she wasn’t a firefighter or had any experience with that aspect of the job, I thought that was very odd. I didn’t even realize she was gay at first because the article didn’t have a picture of her. All I read was that she was replacing a 37 year
Department vet put in place by Adams. Now, when I went digging, I saw that Adams also made terrible picks including a guy that came from the security field and his former company generously donated to Adams’ campaign, so to no surprise, that seems like he bought the post-so of the two, he is definitely less qualified. I don’t care about Adams one way or the other.

You can disagree all you want, but I believe that her being gay played a very big part of this posting.
