Race, gender, sexual orientation should NEVER enter into the equation-ever. A leader should never say “you know what we need to lead the city/country/business….. a _________, so let’s look to see if we can find one that can work.”

I never said I think the fdny should be led by a w/m. I just said that I believe they chose her because she is a lesbian first and foremost and that qualifications came second. I stated that I believe the leader of the largest fire department in the country should be headed by someone with that experience. You have stated that they respond mostly to medical calls, and I accept that, but that is why a firefighter has that experience as well as the experience of dealing with fire. Well, first I said she seems plenty qualified. I don’t think she’ll actually have to put out fires herself, and the majority of the job is responding to medical calls, which is where she would be a SME as a former chief of NY EMS.

As I said, it doesn’t make me mad. I have been in too much shit and experienced too much to let something like this make me mad. I find it mostly amusing more than anything else, but it doesn’t mean that I am going to not call out blatant virtue signaling and dei choices when they occur. As I mentioned to others, firefighters spend their whole careers both answering medical calls AND fighting fires and responding to alarms. She has never done the latter and I believe the leader of the largest fire department in the country should have that experience, but her last two predecessors (aside from the one Adams appointed in November) had those qualifications either, so it will be a fun dumpster fire to watch

Had he not said what he said about only considering a black woman for the position, and he did his search and came back with her, it would not be an issue.

In my opinion, mamdani is first and foremost looking for minorities to fill out his positions and I believe it is wrong.
