Elections NYC mayoral race

I don't even know what you guys are talking about, just saying it's a thing
He said his aunt didn’t feel comfortable riding the subway after 9/11 because she was a Muslim and wore a hijab.

His aunt never lived in NYC nor did she wear an hijab.

Then his campaign said it was about his dead cousin.

His cousin also didn’t live in NYC.

Then he said it was a story about shared community experience.

Uh, ok

But you were speculating on how much _could_ be taken away, which again is clearly antagonistic

Yep if they dont meet requirements. Say like funds for law enforcement then he is a sanctuary city and tries to stop ICE.

Why don't you like free buses?

They're so cheap here in Montreal they're as good as free, like Hydro Quebec they only charge enough to keep from losing too much money (you wouldn't believe how little we pay for power).

We don't have state grocers but we have deals with subsidized farms that provide amazingly cheap fresh vegetables (15 bucks for 50 pounds).

What America is doing is largely failing. Mamdani wants to try some things and everyone is attacking him. Much of it is conservative ignorance and bigotry, but a lot of it is Democrat. You should have seen Buttigieg dance around endorsing him.
I don't think the problem with busses in America is that the fares are too high, it's that the service isn't good. I also think fares, if laws against fare evading is enforced, it's a good way to filter out antisocial types.
Cant believe you’re serious. But then again, it’s you.
You've really never heard of that? Here's a reddit thread where the topic was brought up
Indian man here who moved abroad pretty young. I find the concept of using “aunty” and “uncle” to refer to any older adult (even if they’re objectively young, say, in their 40s) really bizarre. Why do we do that? Why don’t we say “Miss/Mrs/Sir/Mr” when we refer to an older adult? Are we trying to “desexualize” older people (although a lot of “older” people do look good and are still in their prime if they have a good diet, exercise, and take care of themselves)?
I’ve never quite understood why Indians do this and it sounds a little pointless to me. Curious to hear your thoughts.
Wikihow has an article on it
“Auntie” is a term of reverence for any elder woman in Indian culture.
If you have some kind of social or familial relationship with an older woman, you’ll often be expected to address them as “auntie” in Indian culture. This is a term of endearment and respect, but it is reserved for women you are somehow connected to if you aren’t Indian.
  • For example, your actual aunt, your aunt’s friend, and your older second cousin would all be referred to as “auntie.” In fact, if your older second cousin brought her friend from Bingo, she’d be an auntie, too!
Very common in Native communities as well
You see it in Hispanic communities too and I bet it's the same among other minorities too. Honestly kinda shocked Rob hasn't heard of this but them again as a NIMBY I guess it would be on brand for him if he didn't really interact with immigrants or other minorities much.

sir, any comment on mamdani saying the end goal is to "seize the means of production"?

and any comment on this? it's straight form marx, Critique of the Gotha Programme, 1875. sir, please answer.

tl;dr HE'S A COMMUNIST

Yeah except this dead cousin never lived in NYC and he said it was really just a story about community experience

He is a political actor. His mom literally worked in media, and he is a failed actor rapper.

He has the biggest shit eating smile that he has practiced a million times for this.

He is going to soon eclipse AOC as face of the party for progressives, just watch. It won’t matter what he does in NYC, just like Gavin in CA, he is still popular among democrats because he is outspoken and can do the same shit eating grin, while having no problem lying about everything.

The money that has fueled Mamdani knows Gavin is too white male to be their candidate and the face of the party. And AOC isn’t well spoken enough and retarded

Trust me

Personally, I think mass transit is critical in building better cities and a sustainable future. The more people using it, the better the service will get, and the more utility cities will have. I think quality of life in general would be better for everyone if mass transit were free.

Just my opinion.

“You think he’s lying?”

Considering this dead cousin also didn’t live in NYC and he said he was making a point about “community experience”… yes he’s lying.

I mean he’s lied about so much you think THIS is true??
It's possible he's lying I suppose but nothing he said was hard to believe.

Do you think that it's unlikely or hard to believe that Muslim women felt enough stigma after 9/11 to avoid wearing the hijab? Especially in NYC of all places?

I'm also a supporter of mass transit but like I said I don't think the issue is the cost of the fare, it's the quality of service that makes a difference. Transit agencies have enough trouble as it is funding their operations so I think it's better that they keep fares to offset the cost which could also discourage antisocial types from getting on the bus if fare evasion is cracked down on.

I guess it's just pretty gross to me to think about deliberately harming an economy and costing jobs because I don't like who got elected mayor

I'm absolutely loving the collective meltdown of the MAGA swine over Mamdani's inevitable victory. What makes it all the more precious is that most of them (or at least those who live in NYC) actually stand to gain from it, but they've been convinced by billionaire funded propaganda networks that he's gonna throw them all into gulags. Please, continue freaking out. It makes for good entertainment.
Nah, its more like adults who have a basic grasp of economics and of how the world works are rightfully worried because he's going to be a disaster.

Dont conflate two different things. He’s lying. You know it. Everyone knows it.

New York City has fucking a gigantic economy lol

It's funny when people from red states talk about withholding money from the states that make it all.

It's like a mentally handicapped child holding daddy's wallet.

i'll use your own metaphor here....you don't let a mentally handicapped child run a company. mamdani should be given as little control as possible and that's a good thing.

and still no comment on this?
