Before this thread you weren't even aware that in some communities the terms "auntie" and "uncle" are commonly used to refer to elders generally and as a result you thought his explanation was damning when in fact it makes perfect sense to people who've interacted with immigrants.
That's not to say Mamdani is necessarily telling the truth just because the story is believable, could be he made up a story based on stuff he heard growing up. If anything the best lies are effective precisely because they are believable. But nothing you've presented suggests an obvious lie.

Not saying you're even wrong about Mamdani as I think his signature policies all sound pretty bad but if we're judging by the standards of orthodox economics Mamdani sounds like Milton Friedman compared to Trump.

Hilarious seeing people paint this dude as some Islamic extremist terrorist when he’s like super pro-LGBT. Those Islamic extremists are definitely know for that. Honestly at this point why the fuck not. Even if you don’t like his policies you can’t deny he sounds the most normal out of the group left and he ran a masterclass campaign. He also comes across as super likable as we’ve seen when he goes on podcasts. I’d like to see him do well. Rooting for NYC to fail is such an unpatriotic thing to do. There was a boom that he had nothing to do with, and he was heavily criticized for heavy spending which ultimately left the next administration with a new deficit despite the brief surplus.

I disagree. I don't know how old you were when he was in office, but he was always a lunatic. I remember how much damage he did leading into 9/11. For instance, he ignored pleas to update NYFD communications, which led to hundreds of firefighters dying because they couldn't be reached when the towers came down.
He insisted they put the EOC in Tower 7 when he was warned repeatedly that a critical OPs center should absolutely not be put in a known target; when the tower fell, they were blinded. He wanted it there because it was walking distance from his office. The father of my girlfriend at the time was an FDNY chief and they hated him.
He was always crazy; he left his wife in 2000 by announcing it in a press conference before telling her.
Feel free to take my opinions here with a grain of salt, I had a personal connection to his 9/11 failures and it has always irked me that people credit him for anything good and ignore his catastrophes that caused great harm.
Also, I'm progressive and his policies (stop and frisk, broken window) heavily targeted non-white communities, and part of the perception of his success was his reclassification of crimes to juke the stats (crimes were downgraded with showed as reductions in the more serious tables).

Don’t tel me you’re another one of those weirdos that thinks every city is dangerous. NYC is still much safer than it has been in the past when we were both way younger. It’s definitely worth a visit. So much history in that city and there’s always something fun going on.

The immigration crackdown is one but I also think you were not principally opposed to the tariffs as much as you were Trump giving people exemptions. That's better than the other Trumpers admittedly but not by much.
