Solid chance, especially if Cuomo runs as an independent and splits the dem vote.

I don’t think NYC will turn red, but very well could help the republicans in the state win more house seats and possibly even the governorship in 2026.

Spoiled republicans in NY actually enable this with the salt deductions. They argued for a big increase for those in the house, but leadership should tell them the pound sand. Removing salt will force moderates who still vote dem realize that they will be taxed more without federal bailouts for their shit state policies

It's an establishment Democrat problem. They are OBSESSED with legacy candidates, and have little to offer but "Remember this name?". It's why they drudge Obama out there every single cycle, to the point where you'd think he was running.

It was a problem on the right too, until Trump blew them up. Dems haven't gotten the memo yet.
 
It's wild that the Democrats couldn't do better than these two cans.

Candidates across the entire political spectrum have taken a massive nose dive. It's almost as if the people actually qualified know better than to get involved in this festival of garbage.

Not a fan of some of Mamdani's signature policies like the rent freeze and the free busses but he's also hinted at an "Abundance" agenda along the lines of what Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson advocate for, which is to say a focus on tackling government inefficiency and cutting red tape which are big problems in cites like NYC.

If he leans into the socialist stuff that would be bad I think but if he leans the other way towards "Abundance" that could change the city for the better in a big way.

Imo he's a mixed bag. Some really bad leftist policy ideas like rent freeze and state run grocers but he's also hinted at tackling government inefficiency and red tape which is at least partly to blame for the exodus from Northeast cities to Sunbelt states.

He did an interview with Derek Thompson, a co-author of Abundance, which I've yet to check out and which I imagine would be revealing.
