But at least the KGB was honest about their intentions, the NSA hides behind the terrorism cloud to set precedent of privacy invasion, an act aimed more at political descent than crime.
Do you honestly think that the KGB didn't engage in propoganda on their own behalf in their own time? I think you are confusing what we know about the KGB now, in this country v. how they presented themselves in the USSR.
 
Yeah I'm sure. It was disbanded when the USSR fell and merged into two other branches, Federal Security Services and Federal Intelligence Service or something similar.

The KGB is pretty much back. It was only reorganised and turned into the FSB. It went dormant for a while after the collapse but a lot of people think they're coming back into full swing now.
