Movies Nostalgia-overrated movies.

Armageddon and Independence Day seemed better at the time. They're still all right but...

I never got the hype with "Armageddon"(or the other asteroid flick with Morgan Freeman), but "Independence Day" is pretty legit. No, it's not up there with the true greats of popcorn entertainment, but it's still pretty fun. The White House shot alone, is up there with any big memorable moment of any movie. Will Smith commands the screen like only he can, and it took the tried and true "Us vs Them" template, and knocked it out of the park.

Contrast that to "Armageddon", where I only remember the Aerosmith song, and the group wanting a stipulation to not pay taxes forever to take on the mission. Maybe it's because the enemy was a big rock, and not aliens.

Willow is a good movie but not great. Back to the Future is an objectively great movie by almost any metric. Anyone who wants a crash course in plotting, screenwriting, storyboarding, or the creative process in general for Hollywood film need look no further than Back to the Future.

With its tight plot, engaging soundtrack, great special effects, and masterful acting performances, Back to the Future is an all time classic. Anyone who says otherwise just doesn’t understand great cinema.

For me, there are five films I consider to be “perfect” films, of which Back to the Future is one. (The others being Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Rocky, and Ghostbusters.)
No it’s lame and you’re lame for liking it.

I never got the praise for apocalypse now to me it is probably the crappiest of all vietnam films hell even mel gibsons vietnam remake of the patriot was better.

This. Overrated af
Long, slow paced, too ambicious ..
Hate that film.. and I always hear someone praising it as one of the goats movies ever made. Same with GodFather.

What are some of your popcorn entertainment all time greats?

Ghost Busters
Back To The Future
Aliens (pains me to say it... fuck I don't know if I can stand by this one)
Scarface
Braveheart
Forrest Gump
Full Metal Jacket
Apocalypse Meow
Maybe Blade Runner. The last time I tried to watch it I fell asleep, haven't given it another attempt

Some other shit

I remember thinking Fantastic Four (2005) was so cool when I saw it in theaters.

Wtf was I thinking?

Also... all of the parody movies of the 2000s (besides Not Another Teen Movie) were kinda stupid in hindsight.

I really like Casino but it does come to a grinding halt when it starts to focus more on Sam and Gigner's marriage for the third act. I just didn't care about them enough. Sam falling for Ginger never made sense in the first place and then why Ginger is so captivated by this low life pimp made no sense. Their marriage falling apart was not interesting at all. I could watch 3 hours of just the first hour of Casino, the daily workings of the Tangiers and the mob dealings involved with it

I don't know if overrated is the right term, but I don't think younger generations will like it that much. Much of the appeal comes from historical references, nostalgia and classic rock that draws in Boomers and Gen X, but millennials and younger won't feel the same affinity for those things.

I'd agree with you if you left it at Boomers.

I don't see any Gen X in this film, and I never liked it, but my parents generation LOVED this thing.

Signed: A Gen X'er.

I've got to agree with you on Scarface. In the plethora of good mafia/gangster/cartel movies, it's places towards the bottom.

It's not very whitty, and lacks substance that makes you really care about anything. And I don't think younger al pacino was even a good actor. He was much better later on

Disagree re: Pacino.

Dog Day Afternoon & Godfather, he's giving his best.

As he aged, he started "mailing it in" for more and more films. Glenngarry Glennross was the last time he truly gave a shit, IMO.

Millenial here and Forrest Gump completely changed my taste of music and made me appreciate the older generations more.

I think this is dependent upon your age when those films were released.

If you were very young in the late 90's, you get a pass for feeling those were "good" films.
