Sapp went 10-8 in K-1 and 12-19 overall in kickboxing with most of his wins being freak show fights like him vs. Kimo or Seth Petrozelli. Anytime he fought one of the actual top K-1 heavyweights like Aerts, Sefo, Crocop, Remy, he was absolutely embarrassed and became a joke because of how easily he went down. The two fights against Hoost were awful losses since he didn’t quite have the power to KO the 350+ pound walking steroid haha but once he fought Mirko next and got his face literally broken he ended up being KO’d and TKO’d by every other relevant kickboxer he fought. Dude lost by knockout 12 times in kickboxing.Sapp never beat a decent mma fighter. Not a single one.
What he did to Hoost was indicative of how shitty k-1 is.
Try and picture Sapp beating a top 50 boxer...let alone an ATG lmao lmao
Hard to believe this was almost 20 years ago. Seeing this makes me sad about the HW division of today. Here you have two HWs in their 20s with incredible speed, power, technique and endurance backed by world class skill in multiple disciplines.
Sergei was a paratrooper and very well versed in Sambo and qualified for the Olympics in boxing. Nogueira was a world champion in BJJ at the brown belt level, a black belt in Judo and black belt in BJJ under De La Riva and trained extensively with the Cuban Olymlic Boxing team. They met in the middle and went head to head and skill for skill in a grueling tournament fight with a brutal, 10 minute first round that required endurance you don't see from most HWs today.
Both guys have a great understanding of distance. Both guys have a great jab, strong right hand, and solid body shot and shuffle through each with cleverly selected combos. Sergei's body shots sound like gunshots. Big Nog is light on his feet, slick with his punches and really sneaky and fast with his takedown entries. The way he moved before all of the damage and hip surgery was something to behold.
The intensity of the final minute of this fight and seemlessness and smoothness in the final scramble on the ground was on a higher level than anything you will see from most (if not all) HW fights in the UFC today. How is that the sport has evolved so much yet most of if not almost all of the top 10 HWs of today don't come close to demonstrating this kind technique, awareness and overall intensity of fighting? How has the HW division regressed so much?
Then you went full retard dude. First of all, of course boxers are better with their hands. They focus just to use two limbs. K 1 had 8 weapons to attack. Boxer can beautifully jab with precision and speed until he gets kneed in stomach or face. Then all his hard learned habits go out of window. Would Aerts lose in pure boxing match against top 50 boxer? Most likely. There were few decent boxers in K 1 and they didn't tear through the tourneys like you suggest.44

nobody loved hearing himself talk more than Bas

Sapp was the original freak fight. Once Mirko showed how to beat him, all the following freak fights with strongman's were a lot easier for their oponents.
Truly awful.@MartinGibson86 this scummy little rat shill is the best shoe shiner on sherdog. Dedicated to shilling in any thread. Can't imagine what this mongoloid looks like irl. Keep burying yourself shill and keep those shoes shiny.

Sapp started loosing fights 5 years after his appearence on MMA and K-1 scene when his body detiroated from steroids and when he lost his will to fight. He did not train any more, nor did he aproached the fights seriously. His final record has nothing to do about how was he percieved in the early 2000s. Untill 2005 - 2006 Sapp had very good record.
The fact that he beat no.1 K-1 fighter Hoost and almost beat no. 1 MMA fighter who just barely survived, tells just how much of an equalizer can huge strengt and size be.
"A bum" would have never been able to do so much damage to the best standup fighter on planet, and the best MMA fighter on planet.
Randy Couture for example would have lost that fight to Sapp in 2002, on that Japanese summer night. He as top MMA fighter had no tools to survive, and he would have not bee able do what Minotauro did.
Bob Sapp was legit, dangerous, feared and feslected in early 2000s, and that is what would 9/10 people tell you that about him in 2002 or 2003. That is the written history, everybody who actually watched K-1 and Pride at that time knows that.
It can be explained. Its all right there on film if you watch the fights. The fact that Hoost destroyed everyone who beat Sapp in K-1 speaks volumes of how freakish and flukeish Sapps wins over Hoost were. Mirko destroyed Sapp but had nothing for Hoost. Shows that some things are strange and can't be explained.

1.Hoost didnt take sapp seriously and his pride caused him to stay in the pocket with him way more than he should have. A guy with that reach and that size differential. Suicide.
2. Hoost was never known to be a guy with extra powerful punches. he couldnt make a dent in someone's sapp's size. He tried to use his kicks which were more effective, but Sapp's '82 reach could counter over those when most couldnt normally.
3. The referee was so obviously crooked that he never penalized Sapp for holding,or hitting Hoost after he went down in the first fight.
Most of these things here also contributed to the 2nd loss. In closing,It wasnt sapp's skill. He was just too big for Hoost to handle, and Hoost's pride got the better of him. Also the ref was in it to screw Hoost any chance he got.
I partially agree but think you're underestimating Hoosts punching power. Stopped Mirko with left hook to the body which no one else has ever done and he stopped Bernardo with left hook to the chin which folded him like a lawn chair and Bernardo came from pro boxing and was very hard to put away with punches. Hoost didn't have Mark Hunt power but the man could hit. I think he underestimated Sapp in the first fight and then made adjustments for the second fight but got hit with some big steroid power and the corrupt ref didn't help much either.
Im not saying he is pillow fisted, but Mirko could really hurt Sapp and Hoost, not nearly as much
