Nog vs Sergei 18 years ago

Nogueira at 225-230lbs was in peak shape.
Ngannou 30lbs heavier is in his peak shape as well, and Gane not far from that.
Yeah, you have guys back in the day as heavy or heavier, but how they did move? how skilled they were? Not as Ngannou or Gané, not even close really imo

Which great grapplers has Gane fought? Who has he fought that was truly well rounded and tested him everhehere? In his 10 fights he's fought mostly cans. Outside of those cans he's fought a fossil of JDS, Derrick Lewis, Rozenstruik and Volkov. All strikers who never tested his grappling at all. Then he fought Ngannou who is the only one who tried grappling him and took him down and laid and prayed him easily.

To assume that Ngannou is the only one in world history who could do this just because he's the only one who tried doesn't make sense and seems desperate. If Gane fought prime Nog, prime Barnett, Prime Fedor they would all be testing his grappling and takedown defense just as much as Ngannou did and more so than any of the other strikers he fought.

I think Herring would have as hard of a time against Ngannou or Gane as he did with Mirko.

If he got it to the ground OK different story, but I would pick them against him if he couldnt manage to put them on their back somehow. Even if they took him down,he could reverse them. But on the feet,he'd get chewed up. Nogueira outstruck this guy easily on the feet in the 2nd fight.

He wasn't fleet of foot in the same way that Gane was with the lateral movement. He was a different style of fighter.

Speculation at best. I dont see anything from Gane which suggests hes faster or more agile than peak Mirko or peak Fedor. I wouldnt even say hes faster than peak AA. You can assume that Gane would be harder for Nog to take down than a prime Fedor but I personally think thats laughable.

It's all speculation lol, we're discussing random fights that are impossible to actually put together.

Right but if you read this thread then you will see that shills are acting like the skills displayed in the Nog - Sergei fight wouldn't be valid against Ngannou and Gane which is utter bullshit. No one who disagrees with that is saying that Gane and Ngannou's skills wouldn't be valid against Nog and Sergei. They're saying these guys are all talented and belong in the same ring/cage and if they all fought eachother 10x there would be mixed results.

I tend to agree that they're all very high level guys and different things would happen if they fought each other different times. I think trying to be certain about what would happen in fantasy fights between high level guys is a bit silly.

If you got a weakness and you somehow cant finish a guy,who in his prime couldnt really be finished, then Nog's gonna figure out how to get you at some point.

UNLESS YOUR FEDOR OF COURSE LOL

but of course it was also Fedor's gameplan in that first meeting which surprised nog,and neither Big Frank nor Gane would be able to pull off, wether Nog knew about it or not.

Id have loved to see Gane and Big Frank vs HW strikers w big power like young arlovski, sylvia,Crocop. Woulda been scandalous, dawg.

Nog made great adjustments in the second fight. He stopped using open guard and double wrist control which was good to set up armlocks and triangles against others but didn't work on Fedor who's posture was too strong and he just powered out and bounced Nogs head off the mat with GnP like it was a basketball.

In the second fight Nog switched to more of a closed guard approach holding Fedor tight to him and it was clear Fedor was having a harder time GnPing him.

In the third fight it was Fedor who made the brilliant adjustments to throw Nog around like a rag doll and sprawl and brawl. Nog wasn't expecting that and got outclassed.

This is fair.

Thats the sign of high level MMA trilogy. MAYBE nog could have won if he had any idea what Fedor had planned. Thats how good these men were. He became a better fighter in his dogged pursuit of Fedor, but the gameplan always stymied his preperations.

Prime Big Nog took down Fedor and Barnett. Two guys way stronger and more physical in the clinch than Gane, a French kickboxer with 4 years of training who is a weaker grappler than both Fedor and Barnett. Keep shilling though.

Delusional.

Fedor was wasily taken down and had his back taken by one dimensional fossil.Coleman , gave up the most basic sungle leg/slide by before getting ko'd by hendo, pisspounded by Bigfoot, and gave up sidemount TWICE to mark hunt lol lol lol

"more physical in the clinch" is complete idiocy. Where was it in the above fights??

Nog went 5-6 in the UFC ffs

Sylvia's been dropped in the opening seconds by AA twice, Fedor, and Couture....yea I'm sure he'd be trouble for Frank.

AA was a chinny 50/50 fighter his whole career.

This is gonna blow your mind:
CroCop's mma career before leavung Pride was '01-'06.

He then fought for 12 more years, 26 fights, and a 10 fight win streak to end in his career in the minors.

Maybe its time to stip pretending he was using a walker when he was in the ufc.

All 3 get massacred by Gane or Frank.

Sapp never beat a decent mma fighter.

He sucked. Badly
Sapp was a monster until Mirko broke him. You weren't watching at that time I get it.
What Sapp did too Hoost was thing of sheer brutality. There was a big difference between fresh Sapp and other 300+ lbs fighters who were like whales. Watch Sapp Vs Mirko. You will see Crocop is nervous as fuck and very tentative, so agile and almost running away from Sapp to reset and not get caught into barrage of punches. Mental aspect of fighting is overlooked a lot by keyboard warriors. Sapp believed in himself at the start of his fighting career. After Mirko fight he submitted to be just a freak fighter.

Sapp never beat a decent mma fighter. Not a single one.

What he did to Hoost was indicative of how shitty k-1 is.

Try and picture Sapp beating a top 50 boxer...let alone an ATG lmao lmao
