Cung lee was a Sanshou fighter and Sanshou has some of Shuai Jiao techniques if im not mistaken.

Is that a type of Noodles boi. Wher i come from Shui Juoao is a type of noodle dish in Kansas

Practicing for ground game is not practical for martial purposes. Try working your butterfly guard on the battlefield and you will get a sword jammed in your gut.

Mmmmm try to get your sword out n a battle field and you will get a bullet in your head, what's your point?

Hand to hand fighting is quite stupid if you are thinking for battlefield...

I want to reply to own post and say that this really upsets me. Look at this picture of shuai jiao fighters from the 1930s.

They all have cauliflower ear and look tough as nails. They're obviously legit fighters.

They're all dead now. Their martial art is gone forever.
Dude, i wish i had a shape like that second dude from the left to the right. How did these guys get so strong and ripped bodies in the 30s?? I see people struggling nowadays when they have gym, suplements, knowledge and etc

Almost all martial art systems were developed to help soldiers on a traditional battle field. Being able to trip or throw someone in a melee is a huge advantage, especially with the weight of armor making it harder to get up. The point is that these systems are pretty good for MMA unified rules, but great for the rules they are actually made for.

Shuai jiao is a cool wrestling/judo style

It's the traditional chinese wrestling

I say it's more suitable for mma than judo because their gi allows less grips, so it's more like wrestling

In some kung-fu styles they study it, and there are still a few throws which are used by sanda fighters, not much actually

But it's still an active art and there is a world championship

The fact that there is not many mma fighters who use it as a base is due to both it being a marginal art nowaday and to the low number of chinese fighters in the big orgs

I hope we'll be able to see a chinese fighter who has shuai jiao as a base in the ufc, it would be cool

That guy was probably 5'5" and like 130 lbs. It's not hard to get a well-proportioned body at that size, especially if you live a life of hard work/training and not a ton of food everywhere all the time.

and what do you think is going to happen if you take out the rules? Don't be silly people fight standing and k the ground, you take out the rules, and those same sport fighters will be killing each other, and don't need some ancient deadly Kung fu for that matter

Anybody remember in the early days of ESPN 2, seeing Chung Lee in San Sanshou, they had it quit a bit.

Sport fighting is not optimized for war. Boxers and kickboxers will break their hands because they have no pillow gloves, extensive ground grappling will leave you vulnerable when there are multiple attackers. Sanda is the closest fight sport to battlefield optimization, but it still has its flaws.

From what I've seen I sincerely don't see the difference between their techniques and that of Judokas who have proved Judo can work inside the octagon.

It looks just like Judo with a smaller kimono to me

There's a vid in f12 with foreigners competing as well. The french guy just keeps spamming uchi mata whenever the wrestler(US) goes for the single.

hand to hand fighting is not good for war at all, men have figured that out thousands of years ago, thats weapons are for.

put any sanda fighting you want to pick in the world vs wanderlei silva in a no rules fight, see how that goes.

These techniques can be used while armed. If you study ancient manuals of combat you will see that trips and throws are a core part of armed combat.

Wanderlei Silva in a no rules fight? I would put an arrow through his chest from 50m away.

There are too many Martial Arts out there. Wing sum doo Fu is the ancient western chinese martial art that invented the grasshopper style. I hope no one actually believed me.
There's a reason why the random ancient martial arts arts arent famous because they aren't as effective. Muay Thai, Wrestling, Sambo, Japanese Jiu Jitsu ,BJJ, Judo, Karate, Taekwondo, Sanshou, Kickboxing, and Boxing are the most effectve martial arts imo.
